The Classic earned full marks in our Saatva Classic Mattress review, impressing with its breathable feel, soothing support, and luxury cushioning. The Saatva Presidents' Day deal sees the return of $400 off (the same discount we spotted over Black Friday), reducing a queen from $2,179 to $1,779. Add on the free white glove delivery and 365-night trial and it's a bed that's more than worth the splurge.

2. Siena 10" Signature (twin)
Best cheap mattress
Save 20%
2. Siena 10" Signature (twin): was $199 now $159 at Amazon

As well as delivering some of the best motion isolation and edge support of any mattress we've tested (that's great news for couples), the Siena offers incredible support. We think it's the best cheap mattress you can buy, particularly as the Amazon Presidents' Day sale drops a queen to $294 (was $349.) We have seen it cheaper (during Black Friday) but this is still exceptional value.

Our Siena Signature Mattress review: ★★★★
Customer score: ★★★★½ (900+ reviews)

3. DreamCloud Classic Hybrid (twin)
Best for sheer value
3. DreamCloud Classic Hybrid (twin): $399 at DreamCloud

The DreamCloud can give even the best luxury mattresses a run for their money. Our DreamCloud Classic Hybrid Mattress review team loved the plush top which delivers impressive pressure relief (particularly for side sleepers) and at $699 for a queen it's a winner for sheer value. And if you shop now, you'll also get a free bedding bundle.

Our DreamCloud Mattress review: ★★★★
Customer score: ★★★★½ (9,300+ reviews)

4. Helix Midnight Luxe (twin)
Best for side sleepers
Save 27%
4. Helix Midnight Luxe (twin): was $1,436 now $1,048.28 at Helix Sleep

The best mattress for side sleepers we've tried, the lead tester in our Helix Midnight Luxe review credits this bed with banishing her hip and shoulder pain. Helix has a mattress for every sleep style and with code TOMS27 you can save 27% on them all — that's the biggest saving you're going to see and it reduces a queen Midnight Luxe to $1,751 (was $2,398.)

Our Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress review: ★★★★½
Customer score: ★★★★½ (8,000+ reviews)

5. Westin Heavenly Bed (twin)
Best for hotel luxury
5. Westin Heavenly Bed (twin): was $1,645 now $1,316 at Marriott Bonvoy Boutiques

Take luxury hotel-style sleep home with the Westin Heavenly Bed, now 20% off as Westin stores. Our reviewer went hands-on with the Heavenly Bed and found its combination of thick cushioning and sturdy support ideal for back sleeping. With 20% off a queen is $1,996 (was $2,495) but if you want something even more luxurious, the Ritz-Carlton bed is now $2,752 for a queen in the same sale.

Best Presidents' Day mattress deals: Under $300

1. Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam (full)
1. Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam (full): was $219 now $179 at Amazon

If staying under budget is your top priority, the Zinus delivers a cozy feel for side sleepers at under $200 for a queen. It's also a dream for guest rooms (although it has an unfortunate tendency to sleep warm.) But at $199 for a queen we can forgive a few problems, particularly as the motion isolation is excellent.

2. Lucid Memory Foam Mattress (twin)
2. Lucid Memory Foam Mattress (twin): $219.99 at Amazon

Lucid beds have a tendency to sell out whenever they go on sale, so don't hang around if you want this medium firmness all-foam mattress for less. Now reduced from $339 to $220.90 for a queen, Lucid is known for a mattress line-up with a variety of feels and heights but the savings vary across the board, so you might need to weigh up your budget and your needs

3. Allswell Hybrid Mattress (twin)
3. Allswell Hybrid Mattress (twin): was $232 now $199 at Walmart

Our Allswell Hybrid Mattress review team was impressed with the motion isolation of the Allswell — a rare feature in a cheap hybrid bed. It also has good support, with a firm feel that's best for front and back sleepers. The Allswell is always a budget-friendly bed but it's rarely this cheap, so snap up a queen for just $282 (was $352.) It's also an excellent choice for your spare room — and one of the best mattresses for dorm rooms.

Best Presidents' Day mattress deals: Memory foam

1. EGOHOME Black 10" Memory Foam (twin)
1. EGOHOME Black 10" Memory Foam (twin): was $449 now $256.85 at EGOHOME Mattress

You have two options if you want to get your hands on the EGOHOME, a supportive all-foam mattress that's great for side sleepers. Either go direct to the brand, where a queen is just $314 (was $699) and you get the reassurance of a 100-night sleep trial. Or head to Amazon, where a queen is $280.48 but you sacrifice the sleep trial for the lower price. Either way, it's a good deal.

2. Nectar Premier Memory Foam (twin)
2. Nectar Premier Memory Foam (twin): $549 at Nectar Sleep

Taking the top spot as our favorite memory foam mattress, the Nectar Premier has that classic foam feel: a slow-moving 'hug' with plenty of cushioning. That's great for side sleepers, as we noted in our Nectar Premier Memory Foam Mattress review, as well as couples because it eats up movement from a restless partner. $949 for a queen is the standard Nectar mattress sale but it's still impressive value.

3. Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud (twin)
3. Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud (twin): was $1,699 now $1,189 at Tempur-Pedic

You need to be sharp to get the best off in a Tempur-Pedic mattress sale — the deals go fast. But the most reliable sale is on the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud mattress, the entry-level model in Tempur-Pedic's line-up. Delivering a contouring 'hug' that's good at relieving pressure on the joints, a queen Tempur-Cloud is usually just $1,399 (was $1,999.) If you can't spot a sale, use code CLOUD30 at checkout and claim your discount.

Best Presidents' Day mattress deals: Hybrid

1. Linenspa 8" Memory Foam and Spring (twin XL)
1. Linenspa 8" Memory Foam and Spring (twin XL): was $141.34 now $124.79 at Amazon

Our Linenspa 8-inch Mattress review team agreed that while this wasn't the most durable mattress, it's a good cheap hybrid that will suit a guest room or a kid's bedroom. Right now a queen is just $202.62 on Amazon (reduced from $249) and the bouncy finish will appeal to fans of traditional innerspring mattresses.

2. Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Pro Hybrid (twin)
2. Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Pro Hybrid (twin): was $932 now $652.40 at Brooklyn Bedding

If you've been eyeing up a luxury mattress but your budget just falls short, the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Pro Hybrid mattress delivers an indulgent feel for less — a queen is only $932 (was $1,332) in the Brooklyn Bedding mattress sale. It's also a fantastic pick for hot sleepers, as the cooling cover delivers excellent temperature regulation all night long.

3. Bear Elite Hybrid (twin)
3. Bear Elite Hybrid (twin): was $1,855 now $1,113 at Bear Mattress

Warmer weather is coming so now's the time to invest in a cooling mattress. The Bear Elite is our pick of the bunch, particularly if you add the Celliant-infused cover (designed to turn heat into infrared energy.) Using code TOMS40 saves you 40% on everything at Bear, so a queen Elite is $1,456 (was $2,427) with the upgraded cover and just $1,370 without (was $2,284.)

Presidents' Day mattress deals: Luxury

1. Saatva RX (twin)
1. Saatva RX (twin): was $1,999 now $1,599 at Saatva

In the Saatva Presidents' Day sale, there is $400 off right now. This brings the price of a twin RX down to $1,599, and a queen is $3,049. The RX is among the best mattresses for back pain we've tested — our lead tester experiences lumbar pain and sciatica and she found the Saatva RX mattress incredibly soothing. You'll also get a 365-night sleep trial and a lifetime warranty.

2. Puffy Royal Hybrid (twin)
2. Puffy Royal Hybrid (twin): was $2,499 now $1,089 at Puffy Mattress

The Puffy Royal Hybrid mattress offers a plush sink-in feel that's ideal for back and side sleepers, while the use of wool aids breathability to keep you cooler all night long. With code PRESIDENT, a twin is $1,089 and a queen is $2,299. You'll also get two free memory foam pillows and two free sleep masks with your purchase.

3. The Ritz-Carlton Mattress
3. The Ritz-Carlton Mattress: was $2,390 now $1,912 at Marriott Bonvoy Boutiques

The Ritz-Carlton Mattress is a cooling and supportive hybrid with the luxurious feel you'd expect from a top hotel chain. In this President's Day sale, you can take 20% off, bringing a twin down to $1,912 (was $2,390) and a queen is $2,752 (was $3,440). Presidents' Day mattress deals: Smart beds

1. Sleep Number Classic (queen)
1. Sleep Number Classic (queen): was $1,899 now $1,499 at Sleep Number

Sleep Number mattresses are built with a series of air pockets that can inflate or deflate at a press of a button. The result is firmness that changes to meet your needs, adjusting throughout the night so you stay perfectly comfortable, even if you toss and turn. The Classic model pairs this changeable firmness with a simple build for a more affordable smart bed, with a queen $1,499 in the sale ($1,899.)

2. Eight Sleep Pod 5 Core (full)
2. Eight Sleep Pod 5 Core (full): was $2,849 now $2,599 at Eight Sleep US

Tired of waking up sweating? The Eight Sleep Pod mattress cover takes temperature control to the next level, using a water based system to cool or heat the bed to your exact preferences (and the integrated sleep tracking helps maintain that ideal temperature in the night.) Eight Number sales are rarely massive and $250 off the basic Pod 5 model is among the best we've seen. A queen is now just $2,799 (was $3,049) and we predict it will be a while until you see a better price drop. But be aware this is just a mattress cover, there's no mattress included.

3. Bryte Balance Signature (twin)
3. Bryte Balance Signature (twin): was $3,999 now $3,399.15 at bryte.com

You can find Bryte Balance mattresses inside some of the world's best hotels, appealing to those looking for a dose of sleep tourism (that's a vacation centered on good snooze.) And it's no surprise this smart bed is for those looking to maximize their rest, as it features ajustable firmness and even a massage mode. If you don't fancy a hotel stay, the Bryte Balance can deliver vacation sleep year-round for less in the 15% off sale — a queen to $3,399.15 from $3,999, although there are no smaller sizes.

I can't believe I haven't mentioned the DreamCloud

It's rare for me to make it this far into a liveblog without posting about the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid. It's everything you expect from the best mattress in a box: convenient, not too tough on the budget, and with a little touch of luxury to take the sleep experience up a level.

I was part of our DreamCloud Classic Hybrid Mattress review team and I was most impressed with its luscious cushioned top. It provides ample padding for back and side sleepers but without sink, so you still feel supported.

It's not cheap but with a queen just $699 at DreamCloud it punches way above its price point.

DreamCloud Classic Hybrid (twin)
DreamCloud Classic Hybrid (twin): $399 at DreamCloud

This DreamCloud mattress deal isn't new for Presidents' Day but it's still a saving you don't want to miss, with a queen only $699 — and you get a free bedding bundle, including a mattress protector, sheet set and cooling pillows to complete your purchase. The 365-night sleep trial and lifetime warranty are the cherry on top.

Pillow perfection

That includes pillows — there's 20% off the best pillow we've tested right now:

Coop Original Adjustable Pillow (standard/queen)
Coop Original Adjustable Pillow (standard/queen): was $89 now $71.20 at Coop Sleep Goods

The Coop Original Adjustable Pillow comes with removable memory foam fill that you can adjust or redistribute until you have the perfect blend of comfort and support. We've seen slightly bigger sales than this at Coop but 20% off is still a good deal, particularly as it reduces a standard size to just $71.20. And you get a 100-night trial and 5-year warranty, which are exceptional benefits for bedding.

It's a quick way to upgrade your sleep comfort without the expense of a new mattress.

Sleep position 101

Speaking of side sleepers, maybe it's time to dive quickly into sleep positions.

Side sleeping is the most common sleep position, as well as one of the healthiest sleep positions. It's good for back pain and digestion and can also help reduce snoring. Side sleepers need plenty of support but also lots of cushioning, to prevent shoulder pain.

The best mattress for side sleepers we've tested is the Helix Midnight Luxe, from $1,048 at Helix with code TOMS27.

Back sleeping can help reduce back pain (particularly on the right mattress) and can also be better for your skin, as you aren't pressing your face into a pillow. However, back sleepers are also more likely to snore. A good back sleeping mattress has ample support at the hips, to prevent the lumbar from dipping.

The best mattress for back sleepers we've tested is the Saatva Classic, now $400 off at Saatva.

Stomach sleeping is the rarest sleep position, which is pretty good as it's also the worst for your back and neck. However, you're less likely to snore when you're lying on your front. Stomach sleepers need firm beds to prevent twisting the spine further.

The best mattress for stomach sleepers we've tested is the Helix Dawn, from $729.03 at Helix with code TOMS27.

Calling side all side sleepers!

Mattress tester Nicola Appleton dives onto the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress in our Sleep Lab. In the bottom right corner, a Tom's Guide Price Drop deals graphic

There’s currently 27% off the Midnight Luxe mattress at Helix when you use the code TOMS27, bringing a queen down to $1,751 from $2,398.

The Luxe is, hands down, the best mattress for side sleepers my team has ever tested. A plush pillow top cover cushions the touch points of the mattress, providing outstanding pressure relief exactly where it’s needed; along the hips, shoulders and knees.

"As someone with recurrent lower back pain, the zoned lumbar support soothes and supports the ‘S’ shape of my back, helping to keep back pain at bay," says Nicola Appleton, the lead tester in our Helix Midnight Luxe mattress review. "If you’re looking to buy the Luxe but wonder if now is the right time, it is — once Presidents’ Day is over the Helix mattress sale will revert back to 20% off."

Helix Midnight Luxe (twin)
Helix Midnight Luxe (twin): was $1,436 now $1,048 at Helix Sleep

If you head over to Helix now you’ll see the Luxe on sale for 25%. However, using the code TOMS27 at checkout unlocks the maximum saving of 27% off. That brings a queen down to $1,251 from $2,398 — that matches the lowest price we saw throughout last year. It comes with a limited lifetime warranty, 120 night sleep trial and free shipping.

I'm going to have a scoot around for more mattress and sleep deals but I'll be back soon with all the best savings. Hold tight!
