Tom's Guide Verdict

If you're in need of a durable sheet set suitable for year-round use, we recommend this Cotton Percale option from Coop Sleep Goods. Made from 100% pure cotton, it features a traditional crisp texture, soft feel and excellent breathability. While our tester found the sheets to be stiff initially, they started softening after two wash and dry cycles, as outlined by the brand. After sleeping on these sheets for one week, our tester is convinced by the quality of the percale single-ply weave, and while this is a premium purchase, the benefits definitely sweetens the deal: a 100-night sleep trial, one-year warranty and free shipping.

We found that the material used in this sheet set can feel stiff initially, but it is designed to get softer with every wash and we felt this claim made by the brand was largely true.

At $169 for a twin set, it is certainly an investment, but one that comes with generous benefits like a 100-night sleep trial, one-year warranty and free shipping.

Coop Cotton Percale Sheet Set: Price & deals

The Coop Cotton Percale sheet set starts from $169 for a twin, with a queen priced at $199.

While you can find queen-size sets for under $20 (from brands like Utopia Bedding), the Coop set sits firmly in the mid-to-high price range.

During major sale events, we've spotted Coop sheet sets with up to 20% off which drops the price of a queen cotton percale set to $135.20, while a king will cost you $175.20 (was $219). But even with these discounts, the Coop Cotton Percale set doesn't really become a budget-option.

While the sheet set comes at a relatively premium price, the brand is known for their generous sleep benefits: a 100-night trial, a one-year warranty and free shipping.

Each Coop Cotton Percale sheet set includes a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two pillow cases. Twin and twin XL come with only one pillowcase.

Crafted from 100% pure cotton single-ply yarn (ply referring the number of threads twisted together to make a yarn), in a percale weave, which means it uses a one-over, one-under stitching pattern, Coop sheets are designed to be lightweight and durable, perfect to used all year.

OEKO-TEX MADE IN GREEN certified, Coop Cotton Percale sheets are soft-to-touch and smooth, featuring a crisp tailored look thanks to the brand's proprietary fabric polish. Coop has also mention that this crisp texture will soften over time with every wash.

The fitted sheets also have deep pockets with a 360° elastic for easy handling; sizes twin through full having 15" pocket depth, and queen through split king having an even deeper 18" pocket depth. Plus, the Coop Cotton Percale Sheet Set comes in four chic, neutral shades: white, cream, dove grey and ivory.

Coop Cotton Percale Sheet Set: Performance

We slept on the Coop Cotton Percale Sheet Set in classic white for a week, putting it through two wash and dry cycles. We have assessed it against key parameters, including feel, fit, care and more. Here's how this set scored:

How they feel

As the brand notes, the Coop Cotton Percale sheet set felt smooth to touch right out of the packaging.

It does feature a crisp and starchy texture, however in my experience this waned over time with each wash. And, this in no way means that they are scratchy or rough. Bear in mind though, that if you're expecting a flowy fabric, pure cotton sheets might not be ideal.

I found this set instantly elevated my bed to resemble a luxury hotel room thanks to the chic colors and the tailored look.

Score: 4 out of 5

How they fit

Compared to the over-sized fit of the Cozy Earth Bamboo sheet set, the Coop Cotton Percale sheets have a more structured and tailored fit.

The fitted sheet comes with 360° elastic band and top/bottom labels — which helps make the bed-making process easier.

However, while the measurements remained the same post-wash, I had to tug the fitted sheet and re-adjust it multiple times to get the four corners right. This, again, is largely due to the stiff nature of the fabric, though it should soften and become easier to handle over time.

The Coop Cotton Percale fitted sheet reminded me of a slim fit cotton shirt —structured and neatly tailored, but not so stiff that it feels uncomfortable against the skin.

Score: 4.5 out of 5

Temperature regulation

Pure cotton sheets are known for their breathability, and are generally suitable for even very hot sleepers.

The Coop sheets, as the brand mentions, are slightly cool-to-touch, but not ultra cool like bamboo sheets I've reviewed. I found them fresh and comfortable, and on nights I ran a bit cold, I layered up with a 10.5 tog duvet and socks and slept snug.

If you tend to sleep particularly cold as soon as the temperature drops, you might want to consider switching to cotton blends, or other cotton weaves, like sateen or cozy flannel, but the Coop Cotton Percale set should suit most sleepers.

Score: 5 out of 5

Durability

While a one week testing period is not enough to gauge the durability of sheets, the design, materials and weave of the Coop Cotton Percale set are intended to make these items long-lasting.

After two wash and dry cycles, I didn't notice any pilling or loose threads on the fitted sheet, and it appeared softer and smooth too.

Score: 5 out of 5

Ease of care

It's recommended that you change your sheets every one to two weeks to maintain your sleep health and bedroom hygiene. These Coop cotton sheets will allow you to do that since they are machine washable (on a gentle, cold cycle) and dryer-friendly (on low heat). However those care instructions do mean you might be washing them on their own, unless you have plenty of other items with the same requirements.

The brand suggests avoiding any chlorine bleach, and its worth following that instruction as using this may damage the fabric and affect the color of the sheet set.

Since they're made from pure cotton, the sheets can appear extremely wrinkly post-wash. But if you prefer a creaseless sleep surface, these sheets can be ironed on a low heat setting as and when required.

Score: 4 out of 5

Should you buy the Coop Cotton Percale Sheet Set?

The 100% pure cotton Coop Cotton Percale sheet set is high quality sheet and gets softer with every wash.

The crispness and structured fit could be a blessing or a disadvantage depending on the kind of feel you're looking for, though the crisp feel never translated to scratchy or uncomfortable and I found the fitted sheet got softer after two wash and dry cycles.

The breathability and quality of this set makes it a suitable option if you're looking for sheets which can be used all-year round, and the Coop sheets are machine-washable and dryer-friendly, which is handy, although they need a cool, gentle cycle so you might need to wash them separately unless you regularly need to wash other items on the same setting.

As with most pure cotton products, these Coop sheets do wrinkle easily, but you can iron them on a low heat setting for a neat, tidy look if that bothers you.

A big gripe is the price — a MSRP starting at $169 is not going to be suitable for all budgets. However, if you are willing to pay, the brand offers one of the best sleep-benefit packages on the market: a 100-night sleep trial, a one-year warranty and free shipping.

Buy it if...

You want a sheet set for year round use: Cotton is breathable and comfortable, which makes it suitable for every season. If you do sleep cold you can add a thicker duvet, or even a weighted blanket.

You like a crisp look and feel: This sheet set is ideal if you like the crisp, tailored style of a hotel bed. While they do wrinkle, you can iron them on low heat for a fully creaseless surface.

You prefer sheets with generous sleep benefits: Just like their pillows, Coop Sleep Goods offer a 100-night sleep trial for their bed sheets. A one-year warranty and free shipping are also included in the package.

Don't buy it if...

You dislike sheets with a starchy texture : If you're someone who prefers a more flowy, silky feel to your sheets we recommend bedding made from cotton-blends (instead of pure cotton), bamboo or microfiber.

You have a tight budget: At $169 for a twin, the Coop Cotton Percale sheet set is definitely not a budget purchase. However, the sleep benefits sweeten the deal.
