Tom's Guide Verdict

With over 240,000 reviews on Amazon, the Utopia Bedding Sheet Set is a popular, budget-friendly choice. In our tester's experience, it's soft-to-touch and comfortable. The fabric, on the other hand, is more densely woven than cotton or linen. As a result, those prone to overheating might need something more breathable. It's also not as fading and wrinkle resistant as the brand claims. However, it's easy to care for and with a queen set often reduced below $20, it's still excellent value for money.

Utopia Bedding Sheet Set: Price & deals

The Utopia Bedding Sheet Set is available to buy in seven sizes on Amazon and the price differs depending on the size and color you choose. At the time of writing, a sage green (the color our tester reviewed) sheet set was priced at $16.99 (was $21.95) for a twin on Amazon, while a queen size was $17.09 (was $23.95).

These are very low prices for a sheet set, especially compared to brands like Coop Sleep Goods (starting from $169 for a Cotton Percale Sheet Set) and Cozy Earth (starting from $208 for a Soft-Wash Cotton Sheet Set).

While Utopia Bedding has the upper-hand when it comes to price, their sets unfortunately don't come with any warranty or sleep trial. Shipping costs may also apply as per the standard charges incurred by retailer websites, like Amazon and Walmart.

While not all sizes and colors are on sale, you we have spotted this set with up to 39% off. Right now, a white Utopia Bedding Sheet Set has discounts in all sizes except twin. There's currently 25% off a white queen set, bringing the price down to $16.49 (was $21.99) on Amazon.

Utopia Bedding Sheet Set: Design & materials

The Utopia Bedding four-piece sheet set is crafted from premium brushed polyester microfiber, making it slightly heavier than those made from cotton.

The brand claims the sheets will never pill or wrinkle and that they are stain-proof, and fade-proof. They're also OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, meaning they're safe and free from any harmful chemicals.

The fitted sheet is designed to fit beds up to 15 inches tall, which means most of the best mattresses for all sleepers. Our queen size Utopia Bedding sheet set included two standard sized pillow cases, a flat sheet and a fitted sheet.

It is available to shop in 30 colors on Amazon, though some weren't available in every size at the time of writing. Our tester chose a calming sage green for the one-week testing process.

Utopia Bedding Sheet Set: Performance

We reviewed the Utopia Bedding sheet set for a week putting it to test to assess the look and feel. Here's what we found...

How they feel

I was impressed by how quickly these sheets proved one of the brand's claims: they did indeed feel silky soft right out of the packaging.

At first glance, this set looks much expensive than it actually is, thanks to the chic color and quality fabric. While Utopia Bedding doesn't mention the thread count, I found it to be tightly woven and denser compared to lightweight pure cotton sheets.

Both softness and quality stayed the same even after two wash and dry cycles during the testing period.

However, in contrast to what the brand advertises, this set didn't appear to be completely immune to wrinkles. While they may not be as severe as those made from natural fibers, the Utopia Bedding set will definitely wrinkle. If you're someone who likes a neater look, you can iron it on low heat as per the care tag.

How they fit

While making your bed can be therapeutic for some, it really is a matter of getting it done for others. In either case, easily fitting sheets with stretchy elastic bands are a blessing.

I found popping on the Utopia Bedding set on my queen mattress to be an easy one-person job. Once tucked in, it stayed securely in place and never really slipped off, even if you're prone to tossing and turning.

Score: 5 out of 5

Temperature regulation

Cheaper bed sheets made from polyester are usually perceived to trap heat and cause overheating, but I found the Utopia Bedding to sleep at a very breathable neutral temperature (even on nights when temperature soared over 23 degrees (73.4 F)).

Note that I used just the flat sheet without a duvet on during the one-week review period and I slept comfortable in a room with no fans or air conditioning. The fabric, however, does not include any cooling or moisture-wicking properties.

If you're a very hot sleeper or someone who regularly struggles with overheating or nightsweats, your best bet is to opt for sheets crafted from naturally breathable and moisture-wicking fabric like cotton, linen or bamboo.

Score: 4 out of 5

Durability

Seven days is not enough to completely gauge this, as changes can happen due to continuous use over a prolonged period of time. However, considering the affordable price at which it comes at, the Utopia Bedding sheet set did a good job in terms of durability.

After two wash cycles (one each at the start and end of the period), I didn't notice any pilling or shrinkage. The dimensions remained the same post-wash and fit my queen mattress just as before.

However, I suspect that the light sage green colored sheets seem to have faded ever-so slightly after two washes. This would be more prominent if you opt for brighter colors.

Score: 4.5 out of 5

Ease of care

We recommend changing your bed sheets once every week or two, and so adhering to specific washing instructions like dry-cleaning or use of expensive detergent that often is simply not practical.

The Utopia Bedding set fits the bill perfectly well in this case, as it's both machine washable and tumble dry friendly. To maintain the softness and overall feel, I'd recommend to always wash your sheets on a cold and gentle cycle.

The brand also underlines that you should avoid using bleach "to maintain the long-lasting softness and quality." In simple terms, it is an ideal choice for anyone looking for 'low-maintenance sheets'.

Utopia Bedding Sheet Set: User reviews

The Utopia Bedding four-piece set has garnered over 238,000 user reviews on Amazon with a 4.6 customer rating.

Around 78% of customers have given it a 5-star rating with positive reviews for the quality of the fabric, softness, breathability and easy maintenance, aligning with our tester's experience.

About 2% of users however found the sheet set to not meet their expectations in terms of quality. For some the Utopia sheet set appeared to be "see-through thin".

Some customers also said that it wrinkles easily just as our tester reported and is not stain-proof. The average customer online rating is as follows:

  • Amazon user rating: 4.6/5 stars (238,872 reviews)
  • Walmart user rating: 4.6/5 stars (66 reviews)

Utopia Bedding Sheet Set: Should you buy?

The Utopia Bedding set is our top budget recommendation for those looking for affordable sheets which are soft, breathable and easy to maintain.

The prices vary in terms of size and color variations on Amazon, but we have spotted it up to 39% off, dropping the MSRP of a grey queen set from $21.99 to $13.48.

While our tester slept comfortable throughout the review period, we recommend hot sleepers to opt for sheets made from naturally breathable materials like cotton, linen or bamboo which have moisture-wicking properties and can stay consistently cool, no matter the season.

Since it is easy to care for as it's both washing machine and dryer-friendly, we expect this to work well for students staying in dorm rooms. The wide range of size and color options means that there's something to match everyone's aesthetics.

Buy it if...

You want an affordable sheet set: Affordability is the biggest advantage of the Utopia Bedding set with a queen size available just under $22 (MSRP).

You want a low maintenance sheet set: We found the sheet set easy to care for since it's machine washable and dryer friendly. It also didn't shrink or show any visible signs of wear and tear after two wash cycles.

You need hotel-quality within a budget: While it's not crafted from percale cotton, the brushed microfiber sheet set is soft-to-touch and lusciously smooth, resembling a premium hotel bed.

Do not buy if...

You're a hot sleeper: While our tester slept comfortably on the Utopia Bedding sheet set, the brushed polyester microfiber fabric is densely woven and hence would not be as breathable as natural cotton or linen.

You prefer a sheet set with sleep benefits: Utopia Bedding unfortunately does not come with a warranty or sleep trial unlike other brands like the Coop or Brooklinen.
