The 30-second trick to tell if your pillow needs replacing
To conduct a 30-second pillow test to determine whether your pillow should be replaced, you should first fold the pillow in half (after taking off the pillow's cover). Hold the folded pillow in place for 30 seconds before letting go.
A supportive pillow with an even fill distribution will be hard to fold in half and will bounce back almost immediately when you let go. That's a pass!
An unsupportive pillow that folds over easily and stays in that position (or slowly regains its original shape) after letting go means it has lost some of the fill or the fill is sagging. That's a fail.
A pillow with uneven or lumpy fill won't be supportive enough to keep your neck in proper alignment, leading to neck and shoulder pain. That means it's time to replace it, especially if it's older than 1-2 years (that's when experts recommend replacing your pillow).
If your pillow failed the test, the good news is that now is a great time to buy a new one. The Presidents' Day sales are in full swing, and the below four options have all been tested and approved by our team of experts.
Our top 4 pillows to shop in the Presidents’ Day deals
This pillow received a near-perfect score in our Coop Original Adjustable Pillow review. After testing it, we found that it was comfortable in all sleep positions, thanks to its adjustable design. Right now, you can take 20% off, which brings a standard size down to $71.20 (was $89). We did spot it on sale for 25% over Black Friday, but there's no guarantee we'll see that price this Presidents' Day.

We found the Beckham Hotel Collection Down Alternative Pillow to be plush and super comfortable. It's best suited to side and back sleepers. Right now, this pillow is $59 for a set of two. That's down from $79, while this is not the cheapest we've seen this pillow, a $20 savings isn't bad.
In our Nest Bedding Easy Breather Pillow review, we found that this pillow was cool to sleep on and super comfortable. Right now, this pillow is down to $99 in Nest Bedding's Presidents' Day sale (was $124). You'll also get a 30-night sleep trial and a two-year warranty.
The Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Neck is a great option for side and back sleepers. A small will run you $99, and a medium is $109. While this is technically not a sale, if you purchase a pillow and sheet set, you'll get a second pillow and sheet set for free at Tempur-Pedic.
