Best online mattress sales — editor’s choice
1. Saatva Classic Mattress: twin was $1,399 now $999 at Saatva
Our number one rated mattress, after seven months of testing our Sleep Editor found the Saatva Classic had "revolutionized" her sleep. Earning full marks in our Saatva Classic mattress review, this luxury hybrid innerspring has a breathable, neutral feel that’s ideal for sleeping in a heatwave. It’s also customizable and with three feels and two heights available, it suits most sleep styles. Follow our link so you can enjoy $400 off all sizes of the Classic, reducing a queen to $1,699 — the same price we saw for Memorial Day. That’s the best Saatva mattress sale you’re likely to see on the Classic and it comes with a 365-night trial, lifetime warranty and free white glove delivery.
2. DreamCloud Classic Hybrid Mattress: twin was $1,014 now $399 at DreamCloud
DreamCloud’s 4th of July discount is pretty much business as usual, but the fact is that you’ll rarely pay over the odds for this bed, which we rank as the best mattress in a box. At $699 for a queen size it’s $50 more than you’d have paid on Memorial Day, and we wouldn’t be entirely surprised to see the DreamCloud drop to that in a flash sale on the 4th of July, but even at its current price it represents impressive value, particularly when you factor in all the extras that come with it: free mattress protector, sheets and pillows, as well a 365-night trial, lifetime warranty and free shipping and returns. Our DreamCloud mattress review can tell you more about why we rate this one so highly.

User score: ★★★★½ (based on 9,200+ reviews)
3. Siena Memory Foam Mattress: twin was $199 now $149 at Amazon
The Siena is simply the best cheap mattress we’ve tested, going above and beyond its low price tag to deliver full-body support. It avoids the usual pitfalls of cheap memory foam beds, earning praise from our Siena Memory Foam Mattress review team for its breathable feel and sturdy edge support, although we found the firm feel too hard for side sleepers. The Siena mattress sale runs year-round with a queen regularly only $359, but this Amazon deal goes above and beyond and brings you a queen for just $278 — without a doubt the cheapest, better-than-Black-Friday deal we’ve ever seen on this Siena bed. At either retailer, you’ll get a 180-night trial and a 10-year warranty (excellent benefits from a budget bed.)
4. Nectar Classic Mattress: twin was $998 now $349 at Nectar
Like its sister company DreamCloud, Nectar isn’t one to mix up its deal prices when it doesn’t have to. And so its 4th of July deal is what you’ll pay pretty much every other day of the year; fortunately at $649 for a queen it’s an excellent price for the best memory foam mattress on the market. In our Nectar Classic Mattress review we were impressed by its mix of pressure relief and full-body support, and found that its medium-firm feel would be suitable for just about everyone except perhaps lighter side sleepers, who might need just a little more cushioning. As well as a great night’s sleep you’ll get a 365-night trial, forever warranty and free shipping and returns.

5. Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress: twin was $1,436 now $1,048 at Helix with code TOM27
Its plush top and joint-soothing comfort earned it the best mattress for side sleepers title. Our Helix Midnight Luxe mattress review team also found it to have good lumbar (lower back) support to prevent aches and has strong edges for sitting. You can now grab this at 27% off using the code TOM27, which drops the MSRP of a queen Helix Midnight Luxe from $2,398.66 to $1,751.03, which is the same price drop we saw for Memorial Day (though the Memorial Day sale did throw in some bedding freebies, too). This also includes the 100-night sleep trial, lifetime warranty and free shipping.
Our review: ★★★★
User score: ★★★★½ ( based on 7,500+ reviews)
6. Leesa Original Mattress: twin was $879 now $609 at Leesa
This all-foam medium-firm mattress is another great choice for side sleepers thanks to the pressure relief and contouring support it offers. Our Leesa Original mattress review team was impressed by its excellent motion isolation, making it an ideal option for couples. Stomach sleepers, however, might require something with firmer support. While the standard discount at Leesa is around 20% to 25%, you can now find the Leesa Original at up to 30% off. This drops the MSRP of a twin from $879 to $609 while a queen is currently $929 (was $1,332). It also comes with a 100-night sleep trial, lifetime warranty and free shipping.
7. ZINUS 10 Inch Green Tea Essential Memory Foam Mattress: queen was $179.99 now $159 at Amazon
With a simple two layer memory foam design, this mattress is both budget friendly and comfortable; whether you’re looking for a dorm room bed, a guestroom bed or even just an affordable new mattress for your bedroom. It’s made from CertiPUR US certified foams infused with green tea for added freshness and it’s OEKO-Tex certified. With a queen now at $159 (was $179.99), this is one of the lowest prices we’ve seen. Plus, you’ll get a 10-year warranty.
8. Bear Elite Hybrid Mattress: twin was $1,998 now $1,299 at Bear
Let’s get to the point: the Bear Elite Hybrid mattress is our #1 best cooling mattress of the year, making it THE mattress for hot sleepers looking for a cooling sleep solution. During testing, it kept our lead reviewer comfortably cool through a warm July in Texas, likely thanks to its Celliant infused cover (for which you must pay an extra fee), which converts body heat into infrared energy to aid thermoregulation and muscle recovery — yes, it’s the brainbox of mattresses. The current Bear mattress sale takes 35% off, reducing a queen size to $1,578 (was $2.427) as standard or $1,773 (was $2,727) with the Celliant cover. You can pick your firmness level and a lifetime warranty and free shipping is included.

User score: ★★★★½ (based on 3,900+ reviews)
9. Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Pro Hybrid Mattress: twin was $932 now $652.40 at Brooklyn Bedding
The CopperFlex Pro Hybrid is a recent addition to the Brooklyn Bedding range and it’s a strong option if you’re in search of a luxurious feel and cooler sleep at a price that won’t break the bank. We think it’s the best cooling mattress you can get for under $1,000: our testers found that it delivered reliable temperature regulation as well as providing zoned lumbar support and plenty of cushioning thanks to its plush pillow top. Combination sleepers should get on well with this one, although heavier back and stomach sleepers might find it a little too soft to provide adequate support. Brooklyn Bedding is offering a 30% discount for the 4th of July (it's usually 25% off), bringing a queen size down from $1,332 to $932.40; it comes with a 120-night trial, which isn’t the longest, but you’ll also get a lifetime warranty and free shipping.
10. Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Breeze Mattress: twin long was $4,099 now $3,599 at Tempur-Pedic
The 4th of July event at Tempur-Pedic takes $500 off its cooling Tempur-Breeze mattress in all sizes, which sounds like an outstanding deal until you realize that you’re still going to have to fork out a lot of money for this bed. Tempur-Breeze is one of the best luxury mattress brands and isn’t even its most expensive bed - that would be its Tempur-ActiveBreeze smart bed with prices starting at $9,298 - but with a queen size coming in at $4,099 (reduced from $4.599) the Tempur-Breeze is still a serious investment. It’s cheaper than it was on Black Friday, though, when it had just $300 off, and satisfied customers have plenty of good things to say about this luxury mattress’ cooling powers and uniquely contouring feel.
User score: ★★★★½ (based on 2,100+ reviews)
11. Plank Firm mattress: twin was $749 now $524.30 at Plank
This is one for the back and stomach sleepers out there. The Plank Firm is made from four layers of foam and has a very firm feel with almost no cushioning. If you want even firmer, the flippable design means you can switch between firm and extra firm. When we reviewed the Plank Firm, our stomach sleeper loved how well aligned her spine felt. Right now you can get 30% off, bringing a queen down to $932.40 (was $1,332). You'll also get a lifetime warranty and a 120-night trial.

Luxury mattress brand Saatva recently announced the imminent grand opening of another one of their swanky viewing rooms, this time in Pasadena, CA. (If you want to know what it's like to visit one, you can check if one of their 24 locations is near you or check out my fellow team member's first-hand account of a visit to a local Saatva viewing room).
Stay tuned to find out the next steps after finding the right Saatva mattress...
So you've found the ideal Saatva mattress at a viewing room...
Now what? Well, you won't be able to buy it, as the viewing rooms are there to offer you an opportunity to try all the best Saatva mattresses before you buy. You can only buy a Saatva mattress online directly from the brand's website.
However, if you don't live near a viewing room, it doesn't mean you have to commit to your Saatva mattress as soon as you buy. Saatva generously offers a 365-night trial, meaning you'll have an entire year to try it out before deciding whether you want to keep it or not.
Whether you test it at a viewing room or at home, just make sure to visit this hub for an amazing deal. Why? This 4th of July, you can save $400 on all mattresses over $1,000 at Saatva when you use the link above. You won't find this Saatva mattress sale using a standard link, I promise.

Sleep tech expert Eve Davies will now be holding down the mattress fort during my absence, so she'll your friendly guide for the next few hours.
I'll be back tomorrow, but until then expect some great shopping advice, sleep tips, and deal spotting from my fellow bedheads.

BREAKING NEWS: No tragedies, just a stellar deal at Bear
Calling all hot sleepers and fitness fanatics, your ideal mattress just dropped to 40% off. You can shop the Bear Elite Hybrid mattress with savings up to $1,912 at Bear (my jaw dropped too).
I’ve spent all morning deal hunting and this is one of the best I've found so far. Hang fire for my run down on exactly why the Bear Elite is such a great cooling mattress that’s sure (literally science-proven) to bring you restorative sleep night after night.
The smart bed I’d buy this 4th July even though it’s not on sale
Eight Sleep Pod 4: from $2,449 at Eight Sleep
The Eight Sleep Pod 4 is our #1 smart bed of the year. I’ve been sleeping on the Eight Sleep Pod 4 since November 2024 and in that time I’ve become a self-confessed professional sleeper. I’ve bagged sleep scores of 100, fallen asleep easily through heatwaves and woken up feeling refreshed most days. This isn’t a complete smart mattress per say, it is a smart mattress cover laced with accurate sleep tracking sensors and water tubes that form an in-bed heating and cooling system that you can control manually, or leave it to automatically adjust to your temperature needs from morning to night. Yes it’s pricey at $2,649 for a queen size, and you have to fork out on a subscription fee starting at $17 per month. But it is the most affordable model from Eight Sleep (it has similar features to the new Pod 5 which costs $200 more right now) and offers decent value in the grand scheme of smart beds.
Our score: ★★★★½

Which Saatva mattress should hot sleepers buy this summer?
We recommend the Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress to hot sleepers looking for a luxury bed in 4th July Saatva mattress sales. This hand-tufted hybrid mattress is made with organic Talalay latex, which has an open cell structure allowing air to freely circulate around the mattress. Paired with a naturally breathable cotton cover, this bed helps keep you cool while you snooze.
Right now, you can save $400 on all sizes of the Latex Hybrid Mattress at Saatva, cutting a queen size to $2,099 (was $2,499). As always, free White Glove delivery, a lifetime warranty and 365-night sleep trial are included.
My friend is in the market for a sunrise alarm clock — this is the one I recommended straightaway
As a morning lark, I loathe dark mornings. So, I spent the winter testing the best sunrise alarm clocks on the market to find the right one for me. Even though dark mornings are a thing of the past (for now) I'm still using my Hatch Restore 3 ($169.99 at Hatch) through the summer months.
Its library of sleep sounds and sunset simulation elevate my evening routine, helping me wind down after warm days, and I like how the simulated sunrise amplifies light in my bedroom come morning, helping me wake up easier. So, when a friend asked for my top sunrise alarm clock recommendation, it was only natural I sung praises about the Hatch Restore.
Wondering how smart climate control works?
Sleep Number Director of R&D Technologies, Kody, explains how the ClimateCool smart bed came to be. The bed uses a clever airflow system to balance your temperature through the night and it’s 20% off this 4th July at Sleep Number. You can snap a queen size up for $4,399 now (was $5,499), saving you $1,099 on your way to blissful sleep.

4 reasons you’re too hot to sleep
Humid nights are part and parcel of summer, but there are plenty of other (avoidable and unavoidable) reasons you may find yourself too hot to sleep and the season isn’t always to blame. So, what can cause heat to sabotage your sleep?
Menopause or peri-menopause: The shift in hormones that occurs during menopause and peri-menopause can wreak havoc on your body’s thermostat. Specifically, the drop in estrogen means you’re more susceptible to climate changes, hence the nighttime hot flushes and night sweats.
Stress: High stress levels increase heart rate and blood flow, heating the body up. Therefore, a calming nighttime routine is key to reducing stress at the end of day, literally cooling the mind and body down to optimal sleep temperature.
Diet choices: Spicy foods and late night meals delay sleep onset by raising body temperature as you metabolise the food. Your body uses energy to break down food and this translates to a rise in temperature, causing you to toss and turn at night.
Menstrual cycle: It’s natural for a woman’s nighttime body temperature to fluctuate throughout their monthly cycle. During the luteal phase, body temperature rises by about 0.3°C to 0.7°C particularly during sleep due to increased progesterone levels.
In any case, a reliable, top-rated cooling mattress could be just what you need to sleep comfortably this summer.
Bye for now 👋
Right, it’s time for me to catch my train. So, I’m handing back to the capable hands of Frances to see you through the next few hours of mattress shopping advice and sleep tips. I’ll be back tomorrow. Until then, happy snoozing!
I'm back...
Okay, I've had a long enough break, and now I've returned to spotlight more deals, share some shopping tips, and dispense some sage sleep advice.
Stay cool...I've found a brrr-illiant deal I'd buy in hot minute
So far, there's been a lot of mattress talk, and while Saatva can offer you luxury mattresses for a customized sleep, let's not forget the calming, cooling power of good bedding.
I've been wanting a certain piece of bedding to get a price drop, and now it's finally happened. You can now save 30% on the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector at Brooklyn Bedding, after weeks of being stuck at 25% off. I got the chance to test this ultra-cooling bedding for my Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector review and absolutely loved its heat-dissipating powers. Oh, did I also mention it's water-resistant, noiseless, and easy to clean?
But it's not the only thing I use to sleep cool during heatwaves...
My tips for sleeping cool without air conditioning
Trying to get a good night's sleep is horrendous when you don't have air-conditioning (and I should know, I unfortunately am not blessed with the miracle of A/C). But there are some things you can do to make your summer nights less horrendous and more refreshing.
- Keep windows and curtains or blinds shut when the sun is out and the temperature is at its peak to keep the hot air out of your room.
- Open your windows and curtains as soon as the temperature drops, to allow the cooler night air to enter and refresh your room.
- Invest in a lavender-infused eye pillow. Simply pop it in the freezer for at least 30 minutes before bed, then place on your eyes for an instant cool-down.
- Last but not least, get yourself a fan. These time-tested things circulates air around the room during days when it's too warm to open a window.

Psst! How to find secret discount codes for top-selling sleep products
There’s nothing like a good discount code to bring your mattress price down, but most mattress brands nowadays will plaster the code all over their website so much (some even automatically apply the code to your cart for you) that it doesn’t feel like you’ve unlocked any special or secret discount – it just feels like a marketing tool to psych you up for impulse buying.
However, there are some discount codes that not everyone knows about, that I’ve picked up over the last two years covering mattress sales. Here are some hidden codes that you can use right now to save some extra cash:
Save 40% on mattress toppers with code TOPPERS40 at Tempur-Pedic
Save 15% on the Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress with code TAKE15 at Linenspa
Save 27% on mattresses, mattress toppers and bedding with code TOMS27 at Helix
Save 27% on organic mattresses and bed toppers with code TOMS27 at Birch Living
Save an extra $10 on mattresses and bedding with code Future10Off at Layla
You (or a loved one) moving into a dorm this summer? Here's the deal I'd get
So you're moving into your new dorm room, but it comes with a mattress that looks a little grubby and germy.
Not to worry, because the best mattress toppers often use thick, protective memory foam infused with anti-microbial substances such as copper and graphite to keep your new bed's surface fresh and clean.
Sleepyhead are a brand specializing in creating mattress toppers especially for students who want to transform their dorm mattress into a comfy and hygienic bed.
You'll find plenty of unboxing videos (see above), mostly featuring photogenic students acting as if setting up a bed topper is easiest thing in the world — but they may be on to something.
Stick around to see how I got on setting up and sleeping on my very own Sleepyhead topper...
My review of the Sleepyhead Mattress Topper (and why it's THE student sleep deal)

I got the chance earlier this year to test one of Sleepyhead's toppers for my Sleepyhead Cooling Copper Mattress Topper review. Here's 5 reasons why it's perfect for students going off to college this summer:
1. It comes with a "good-til-graduation" 5-year warranty to see you through college.
2. Students get a 15%-20% discount when you buy the Sleepyhead Cooling Copper Topper directly from Sleepyhead, and all customers receive a 60-night sleep trial and free shipping
3. A twin XL (the standard dorm mattress size) comes in a 2" or 3" height — thick enough to transform and protect any old bed.
4. It's infused with anti-bacterial and refreshing copper for a cooler, cleaner sleep.
5. It's cover is removable and washable, so it can stand up against spills and stains.
How to sleep during the 4th of July fireworks
Independence Day in the US is synonymous with fireworks, but the sudden bangs, loud crackles, and unpredictable flashes of light they produce make it impossible to sleep.
If you have to go to bed before the fireworks show has started (or if you find fireworks stressful and would rather sleep through them), we went to Dr. Leah Kaylor, a psychologist and sleep expert, to find out if it's even possible to get a good night's sleep during a fireworks display.
The good news? "With the right strategies, you can minimize the disruption and support a more peaceful night for yourself, your kids, and your pets," she says.
Mask the noise
“To reduce the disruptive sounds, try using earplugs or a white noise machine,” Dr. Kaylor suggests. "Wearing earplugs or noise-canceling headphones may reduce the physical impact of loud booms."
Create a dark sleeping environment
“It’s helpful to use blackout curtains or a sleep mask to block out the bright flashes,” advises Dr. Kaylor.
Create a feeling of calm
“Practicing calming techniques such as deep breathing or progressive muscle relaxation helps ease your nervous system and prepare your body for rest,” says Dr. Kaylor.
“Try to reframe the situation mentally by reminding yourself that the fireworks are temporary and that your body can recover from a night of disturbed sleep,” she advises.
See you tomorrow...
Logging off for today, but will be back tomorrow first thing in the morning. However, this hub will still be around for the best deals of Independence Day Eve thanks to Sleep Editor Nicola Appleton stepping in!
Afternoon!
Howdy folks, I'm Nicola and I'm the Sleep Editor at Tom's Guide. I'll be here for the next hour or two, guiding you towards the best mattress, bedding and sleep tech deals as we nudge closer to 4th of July itself. I'll also be dropping some sleep tips, mattress hacks and shopping advice along the way, so stick around...
The pillow we recommend for all sleepers...
Are you on the hunt for a new pillow? Our guide to this year's best pillows is packed full of comfy finds, but a lot are tailored to fit certain sleep positions.
However, there is a particular pillow that offers comfort to all positions. You can save 20% on the Original Adjustable Pillow at Coop Sleep Goods in the 4th of July sales, bringing the price down to $68 from $85. It's adjustable, comfortable, and... it's probably better if I just let the bedding expert herself explain it to you. Over to Becky!
Run, don't walk — my favorite mattress is on sale at Helix
I'm sleeping on the Helix Midnight Luxe and I can confirm that it's utter bliss for side sleepers like me. A queen costs $2,398.66 at full MSRP, but a 27% off 4th of July sale brings that down to $1,751.03 (use the code TOMS27 at discount.)
Granted, it is still a luxury purchase even after the discount. But with zoned lumbar support for those with back pain, phenomenal pressure relief when side and back sleeping, plus incredible motion isolation (more on that later), then it's a worthwhile investment.
The Luxe won't be for everyone, though. Find out why our resident stomach sleeper Ruth would shop a different Helix mattress in the sales.
Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress: twin was $1,436 now $1,048.28 at Helix
The Luxe tops our guide to the best mattresses for side sleepers, thanks to its incredible pressure relief when lying on your side. I tested the original version for our Helix Midnight Luxe mattress review and am currently sleeping on the revamped model and... let's just say that I'm reluctant to ever give it back. 27% off matches the dollar off deal we saw during Memorial Day, but you won't get any of the free bedding this time around. It's still a great discount and comes with a limited lifetime warranty, 100 night sleep trial and free shipping.
No mattresses were harmed in the making of this video
I've said it before and I'll say it again (and again and again), but I love the way the Helix Midnight Luxe absorbs motion across the surface of the mattress. But what does that mean, and how good is it really? I decided (and immediately regretted) enlisting two helpers to test out the motion isolation on the Midnight Luxe…
FYI, bouncing on the bed is not usually part of our mattress testing methodology
And that's me!
I'm signing off but we'll be back tomorrow to bring you the latest mattress deals as they land on Independence Day itself, as well as bags full of buying advice and deal analysis. Join us!
Happy 4th of July!
Frances here, and I've returned for another day of Independence Day bargains!
Now that the big day has officially arrived, I'm expecting to see a lot of flash deals and extra price drops. So, leave the bargain hunting to me while you enjoy your picnics and barbeques!
A recap of yesterday's top deals
Here's a quick look at the 3rd of July's top 3 mattress sales:
The top cooling mattress Elite Hybrid goes from 35% off to 40% off at Bear
The Siena Memory Foam Mattress is cheaper than Black Friday at Amazon
Side-sleeper favorite Helix Midnight Luxe is 27% off with code TOMS27 at Helix
Looking forward to seeing the fireworks tonight but...
… your four-legged friend isn't?
Before I get into today's deals, I want to talk a little about the effect noisy fireworks can have on your pets and share some tips that will help your pet sleep tonight.
“Pets are especially sensitive to fireworks,” says Dr. Leah Kaylor, a psychologist and sleep expert. She advises preparing in advance to get your furry friends through the fireworks with minimal upset and stress.
“Create a safe, quiet space where your pet can retreat—ideally a darkened room with familiar blankets and toys,” Dr. Kaylor advises. “ Consider using pet-calming sprays, an anxiety wrap, or even vet-approved CBD products. Playing soft music or white noise can also help.”
“When my dog is scared she heads straight for the closet,” says Dr. Kaylor “so I try to make it comfortable for her with a dog bed, blanket and her favorite toy.”
And once the fireworks start, help keep your pet calm by remaining calm yourself. “Pets pick up on your anxiety,” notes Dr. Kaylor. “Offer quiet reassurance without fussing too much, as this can reinforce their fear.”
Stay tuned to find out how you can help your little ones fall asleep tonight...
Attention, please! Lucid has just dropped a huge sale
Okay, so I've been doing some browsing this morning and I've just stumbled upon an amazing 4th of July sale...
There's currently 25% off sitewide sale over at Lucid, our go-to budget-friendly sleep brand.
I'm going to spend some time scrolling through the sale's offerings, but I'll let you know as soon as I find any gems!
Found! A topper that'll transform your dorm bed for $38
Okay, so I've looked at Lucid's 25% sale, and they really mean it — everything is 25% off.
But are there any can't miss deals?
I would definitely turn your attention to its popular budget mattress topper, the Lucid Gel Memory Foam Topper.
Currently, you can buy the Gel Memory Foam Topper for as low as $37.49 at Lucid, and it's perfect for softening hard beds or providing cooling comfort to dorm beds. The Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper is also currently in our best mattress toppers guide as our top budget pick — and a 2" queen is now $52.49 (was $69.99).
W e actually tested this mattress topper ourselves, and you can read about our experience in our Lucid Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper review.
The deals that help our sleep tech writer snooze through heatwaves
Sleep tech writer Eve Davies can't be here today, but she's shared with me her two favorite sleep deals that help keep her cool while trying to sleep through the heat. Here's what she had to say about each...
Nicetown Blackout Curtains: was $28.71 now $15.93 at Amazon
The main idea behind the ‘caveman’ method for cooling down your home is blocking out sunlight. These curtains help you do just that. You can save 45% at Amazon now cutting the price to $15.93 from $28.71 for two curtain panels — plus you’ll be able to save on hefty AC bills with this natural cooling method.
Eight Sleep Pod 4 smart mattress cover: from $2,449 at Eight Sleep
I rate the Eight Sleep Pod 4 mattress cover as the best smart bed of the year thanks to its unbeatable climate control, intricate sleep tracking and reasonable value for money. Yes, there’s a Pod 5 now, but much of Eight Sleep’s leading sleep tech is packed up in the Pod 4, which you can get for $200 less. With the pod, you can fine tune the temperature of your bed so it cools down at night, helping you reach the best temperature for sleeping.
How to help children sleep during fireworks
So far we've discussed how you and your pets can sleep during late night (or early morning) fireworks, and now it's time to look at how young children can sleep through the loud bangs.
Young children can find fireworks particularly disruptive to sleep, especially as earlier bed times mean they’re more likely to be tucked up when the show’s getting started.
Dr. Leah Kaylor, psychologist and sleep expert, advises keeping to your usual bedtime routine as much as possible, particularly for kids who find fireworks stressing.
“Establishing a calm bedtime routine before the fireworks start can help—think warm bath, bedtime stories, and cuddling,” she recommends.
“Comfort items like stuffed animals or nightlights can also make a big difference in helping them feel secure,” suggests Dr. Kaylor. “Use white noise machines or calming music in their room to help drown out external sounds.”
And if your child is upset or stressed by fireworks, explain that they’re safe and try reframing fireworks as something fun — or even magical. Dr. Kaylor calls them “sky celebrations” but you might enjoy working together to find your own unique description.
Handing it over!
I'm going to take a break from deal hunting, but I'm going to pass the baton onto Becky George (whom you met yesterday), so expect mattress spotlights, buying advice, and a lot of bedding deals!
Hello there!
Becky George, Sleep Staff Writer
Becky here, Tom’s Guide Sleep team’s bedding writer. I’ll be taking over for the next few hours to keep you updated on the latest mattress and bedding deals, expert advice, news and other lovely sleep content, so stay tuned!
Eco-conscious shoppers, don’t miss this!
The 4th of July sale might be your last chance to grab this top-rated organic mattress at the current sale price. I’m talking about the Avocado Green Mattress which is now 15% off— dropping the MSRP of a queen from $2,099 to $1,784.
So why the rush? Upcoming mattress tariffs could push prices up soon, making now a smart time to invest in better sleep.
Avocado put its mattress prices up in April (around the time of the first blanket 10% tariff on foreign imports), adding an extra $100 to the price of its flagship Avocado Green Mattress in a queen size, but the good news is that if you buy in the 4th of July sale, you can get your mattress for less than you'd have paid before the price rise.
If you've been holding out, don't hit snooze— this deal might not stick around for long.
Avocado Green Mattress: twin from $1,274 now from $1,499 at Avocado
We rate the Avocado Green as the best organic mattress because it's a durable, high-quality bed made from sustainable materials, and one that's suitable for nearly all sleepers. It also comes at a reasonable price for an organic mattress, and more so when you take 15% off in Avocado's 4th of July sale, where you can get it in a queen size for a price rise-beating $1,784. Plus you get sleep benefits like a 1-year trial, 25-year warranty and free shipping. Our Avocado Green Mattress review has all the details.
My favorite pillow deal is back!!
I’ve had my eyes peeled to spot this deal and it’s finally here. The Tempur-Pedic buy one get one free pillow sale is live!
The brand is known for their irregular discount or sale pattern, but they have mentioned that you have time till Monday (ofcourse only until stocks last).
Confused about which ones to grab? Here are my top two picks:
Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Neck Pillow: small from $119 at Tempur-Pedic
This is my number one recommendation for anyone who struggles with neck aches or shoulder pain, since it's specifically designed for side and back sleepers (thanks to the curved design). In my own experience, it provides instant spa-like pressure relief which eases the muscle tension. Read my full review on the Tempur-Pedic Tempur Neck Pillow for more details.
Tempur-Pedic Tempur Cloud: queen from $89 at Tempur-Pedic
Our stomach sleeping tester found the Tempur Cloud to be the perfect pillow for this position. It is ultra-soft, contouring and thin enough to prevent your neck from moving upwards while lying on your stomach. What's more? This could also be a great travel companion, as it's easily portable. Find out more details in our Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud review.
Can you use a weighted blanket in summer?
Weighted blankets are definitely pretty, but they are more than just chic sleep accessories. Studies show that it is a bedding product designed to reduce anxiety and stress.
“The deep pressure stimulation can lower heart rate and reduce cortisol (your stress hormone),” says Dr Leah Kaylor, clinical psychologist who specializes in sleep and trauma.
Considering these are heavier than your duvets, it is natural to suspect whether a weighted blanket will cause overheating or nightsweats during summer.
However, according to Dr Kaylor, you can definitely use a weighted blanket during warm weather— the key is to opt for a lighter and breathable design.
“Go lightweight or shop for an open knit or cooling model. Also, keep your room cool with a fan or AC—your sleep environment matters just as much as the blanket itself,” reminds Dr Kaylor.
Back to school this summer? This is the one product you need for your dorm room if nothing else
All set for your new college or school year? Well, if you're still on the lookout for the right bedding for your dorm bed, give this a read first.
It's going to be quite counterproductive buying all those aesthetic bedsheets and decorative pillows, if you're not going to keep them clean.
What you actually need is a mattress protector— a waterproof one. Here’s why:
- Works as a barrier against spills and stains, so yes to coffee in bed when you’re racing through assignments
- Safeguards your bed from bugs, dust mites, pollen or any other nasties which can trigger allergies
- Saves time and energy, since washing your bedding regularly might not even make it to your list of exciting things to do in college (we still think it’s a good idea).
Now that we know the reason, here are my top two waterproof mattress protector deals to shop now:
Sijo Airyweight Eucalyptus Mattress Protector: twin from $60 now from $48 at Sijo
This is literally the mattress protector I currently use, thanks to its cooling top, noiseless design and excellent waterproofing properties. It is also hypoallergenic, lightweight and machine washable (read my full Sijo Airyweight Eucalyptus mattress protector review for more info). You can now find it at 20% off for 4th of July, which drops the MSRP of a queen protector from $80 to $64.
Utopia Bedding Bamboo Mattress Protector: twin from $14.99 now from $12.99 at Amazon
Need a budget-friendly option? This is it. While it may not match up to the higher-end brands made from premium materials, this one from Utopia Bedding, crafted using 80% polyester and 20% bamboo-derived viscose material serves the purpose (explore our Utopia Bedding Bamboo mattress protector review for more details). You can now find it at a further lower price with the 15% discount— a queen protector just at $17.99.
That’s it from me!
Riiight, where did the time go? I’m going to head off now and grab some lunch. But you lot are left in the very capable hands of our Sleep Features Editor Lauren Jeffries for the next few hours, so stick around for more sleep and mattress updates!
Hello shoppers!
I’m Lauren, the Sleep Features Editor for Tom’s Guide, and I’ll be bringing you the latest news, updates and deals on all things sleep and mattresses (as well as some expert advice on getting good sleep this summer) on this glorious 4th of July.
I’ll be back in a few with my favorite sleep tips and mattress sales so far – watch this space.
My Glastonbury Festival sleep saver
It’s my second day back at work since spending 6 nights (?!) at Glastonbury Festival. Yep, I’m struggling. But I’m here with you lovely lot to find the best 4th July sleep sales out there, as well as share our team’s top tips for sleeping in the summer.
So, what saved my sleep at the festival? The best sleep earplugs I’ve tried yet. After using foam earplugs for years and then switching to the Loop Quiet 2 earplugs, I still wasn’t satisfied. They didn’t block enough noise and they fell out.
Enter the Alpine Silence Earplugs.
When I put these little V-shaped plugs in after a long night (and early morning, eek) of dancing, I immediately blocked out the sound of other revellers continuing the party. They aren’t fiddly to put in and they fit me straight away. Plus, the soft silicone meant I didn’t feel any pain or pressure in my ear canal.
I slept like a baby and when I woke up to my friends discussing the drunken arguments that had kept them awake all night, I was blissfully unaware.
So, my top sleep deal right now is 20% off these bad boys at Amazon.
Alpine Silence Earplugs: was from $24.95 now $19.95 at Amazon
Under $20 for a good night’s sleep is a fantastic deal in my eyes. These earplugs come with a portable carry case and four different size options: XS, S, M and L. Their cool V shape means they stay tight and snug within your ear as soon as you put them in, and, miraculously, I woke up with them still fitted. Usually $24.95, Amazon is taking 20% off bringing the price down to $19.95. A sale well worth taking advantage of for good sleep.
The most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on has dropped by 27%!
Mattress deal alert! Birch has launched its 4th of July sales, offering a huge 27% off its mattresses as well as two free pillows with the code TOMS27. This isn’t one to miss.
I’ve been sleeping on the Birch Luxe Natural mattress for months now and I love it so much I’m considering adding it to this year’s best organic mattress guide.
Made up of layers of organic latex, springs, wool and cotton, it’s an incredibly cool mattress that has the perfect balance of medium-firm support with a pillow-top cushioning. As a side sleeper who doesn’t like to sink into my mattress, it’s a dream. Read my full Birch Luxe Natural review if you want to find out a bit more about my experience.
Birch Luxe Natural mattress: twin was $1,623.75 now $1,185.52 at Birch with code TOMS27
So, how does this deal compare to previous sales we’ve seen over the past year? It matches the Black Friday deal, meaning with the code TOMS27 you can get this luxury bed at the lowest price we’ve seen it at right now for 4th July. A queen was at $2,623.75 and now it’s dropped to $1,915.52. Plus, you’ll get two free Eco-Rest pillows, a lifetime warranty, fast free shipping and a 100-night sleep trial. What’s not to love?
Sleeping with hay fever? Me too — here’s an expert’s advice
So, we’ve dealt with the impossible task of sleeping during a heatwave. Now, we’re left with high pollen levels. But why are allergies so much worse at night?
"Histamine levels naturally peak at night, making symptoms worse just when we're trying to sleep. Pollen also clings to clothes, hair, and bedding, creating an invisible storm of irritation," says Dr Tim Mercer, NHS physician at Opera Beds.
From sneezing and coughing to not being able to breathe through your nose, summer allergies wreak havoc on our sleep.
Here are some top tips on how to sleep with hay fever:
Swap your morning shower for an evening wash
"You can shower before bed to wash off pollen, stopping it from transferring to your pillow," the doctor explains.
Opt for a silk pillowcase
"Silk pillowcases can help prevent allergens like dust mites from accumulating," says Dr Mercer. This material is less likely to hold onto allergens compared to other common bedding materials like cotton.
Wash your bedding more frequently
As well as being great for your sleep hygiene, washing your bedding often at 60°C will help kill dust mites and other allergens.
You’ll also be cleaning away any pollen that has accumulated. But remember, don’t dry your bedding outside during the summer!
Buying a mattress in today's 4th of July sales? Here's how to properly unbox it
The Tom's Guide Sleep Team has unboxed countless mattresses, which means that we're pretty much the pros when it comes to doing it the right way.
And no, it's not rocket science. But it can be a tricky task, even with the best mattresses in a box, so knowing a few expert tips will help you set up your mattress with ease. Check out the video below to find out more.
And that's pretty much the crux of it. Remember the following 'don'ts' when you're unboxing your new mattress:
Don’t leave it in the box for too long
Don’t remove the packaging until the mattress is on the bed frame
Don’t use a pocket knife or box cutter
Don’t open it the wrong way up
Don’t leave the packaging trapped beneath the mattress
Don’t sleep on it until it’s finished expanding
Lunch time!
All of this deal hunting and tip sharing has given me an appetite. Time to pause for some lunch.
What's on the menu I hear you ask? Lasagne!
I'll be back in an hour with more juicy mattress deals, so don't go too far.
We're back!
I've topped up my energy levels and am ready to find you some great mattress and sleep deals this beautiful 4th of July.
I'm going to have a quick scout around and then I'll report back with my favorite finds. See you in a few!
Beat the heat with these 3 cooling mattress protector deals
I've found just the thing for the hot weather! It’s not always easy to swap your entire bed according to the weather outside.
But that doesn’t mean you need to let the heat sabotage your sleep. Earlier, we found some waterproof mattress protector deals, but what about cooling? Yep. They're a thing!
Made from breathable materials like cotton or Tencel Lyocell, cooling mattress protectors are designed to dissipate heat from the body, regulate the temperature and wick away moisture, so you remain dry and fresh throughout the night.
Some even incorporate special cooling tech like Phase Change Materials (PCMs) or GlacioTex which can be ideal for extreme hot sleepers or warm humid locales.
Tempted? Here are three I’ve found currently on sale:
Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector: from $99 from $69.30 at Brooklyn Bedding
Our best cooling mattress protector from Brooklyn Bedding is the first pick, simply because it is designed to deliver ‘high-tech cooling’. It is also hypoallergenic, water resistant and soft-to-touch making it an all-rounder for your mattress needs. You can now save up to 30% on a Brooklyn Bedding mattress protector which drops the MSRP of a queen from $129 to $90.30. This also includes 30-day returns, 3-year warranty and free shipping.
Coop Ultra-Cool Waterproof Mattress Protector: from $69 from $55.20 at Coop Sleep Goods
When we reviewed the Coop Ultra-Cool Water Mattress protector, we were impressed with just how waterproof it is, as well as observing no shrinkage even after multiple washes. But what about its cooling ability? We scored it 5 out of 5 for breathability, thanks to the temperature regulating and naturally moisture wicking bamboo-derived Lulltra fabric. Grab it now for 20% off in the 4th of July sales dropping the MSRP of a queen from $89 to $71.20. This also includes Coop’s top sleep benefits: 100-night sleep trial, 1-year warranty and free shipping.
Utopia Bedding Waterproof Mattress Protector: from $14.99 from $12.99 at Amazon
Need to sleep cool but within a budget? When I reviewed the Utopia Bedding Waterproof Mattress protector I was impressed with its performance, despite the low price. It felt fresh and comfortable night long, and I never found it trapped any heat, despite its thick waterproof layer. This affordable pick further goes down in price now with a queen currently at $17.99 (was $19.99). However, it’s worth noting that it only includes a 30-day return policy and no warranty or long sleep trial.
Mattress Firm is at it again with the stella deals – the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-ProAdapt mattress is 30% off!
Tempur-Pedic mattress sales are a little notorious for being brief, sporadic, slightly hard to predict and not the most generous.
So I don’t blame you if you’ve taken a look at the website and decided against purchasing. But don’t give up. Instead, click your way to Mattress Firm’s site where you can find the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-ProAdapt for a huge 30% off!
That’s a saving of over $1,000, bringing a queen down to $2,379.30 (was $3,399).
Meanwhile, it’s full price over at Tempur-Pedic… Yep, it’s a no brainer… But there's limited availability, so I'd suggest acting fast.
The Tempur-ProAdapt offers exceptional pressure relief, with layers of the classic Tempur-Material foam (designed by NASA?!).
We've tested the ProAdapt's little brother, the Adapt, and in our Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt mattress review, and we rated the medium feel as ideal for back sleepers, so I'd expect to see similar with the ProAdapt.
(Excitingly, the version of the Tempur-Adapt that we reviewed is also on sale at Mattress Firm, and at a much more affordable price.)
There’s also a pop-up that offers another 15% off if you enter your email address… I’m unsure whether it'll work on already discounted beds, but it's worth a shot!
Looking for a snoring solution that actually works? Try this...
Earlier I offered my top tips on sleeping with hay fever. Another unfortunate side effect of summer allergies is snoring. And I’m in the unfortunate situation in which I’ve married a snorer (although he claims it’s the other way around).
We’ve tried so many different solutions, from mouth tape to jaw straps (which felt like it was bordering on torture, rather than a sleep solution) to help us both get a good night’s sleep without resorting to the dreaded sleep divorce, but only one has worked.
Nasal strips are my underrated, understated and overwhelmingly effective sleep hack.
They’re cheap, quick, non-invasive and genuinely help you breathe easier throughout the night. Mouth breathing when you’re asleep can disrupt the quality of your rest, so opening up your nasal passages is a great solution to not only improve your sleep but also stop snoring.
So, if you’re desperately in need of a break from the droning sound of your sleeping partner, I’d suggest investing in some Breathe Right strips which are currently only $11.26 at Amazon (was $17.43) as a budget-friendly option.
Unbox and test the Oura Ring 4 with us…
Next up we’re hearing from Eve Davies, our Sleep Tech Writer, about her experience with the new Oura Ring 4, while I go hunting for more juicy 4th of July mattress deals. Check it out below.
Tempted? You can now order the Oura Ring 4 from $349.
But first, find out whether Eve thought the Oura Ring 4 was worth the upgrade or not... plus, read our full Oura Ring 4 review.
Saatva pricing: When can we expect the tariff price hike?
TL;DR: Tariffs are likely to impact mattress prices soon, including Saatva, which means the 4th of July sales might be the last chance to get some of the lowest prices of the year.
If you spend as much time looking at the Saatva website as we do, you can't have missed the brand constantly teasing impending tariff-related price hikes over the last couple of months.
What we haven't spotted so far, however, are any actual price rises. This could all change later in the month when the 90-day tariff pause is due to run out, so what would that mean for Saatva pricing?
The mattress industry can expect to see increased input costs across the board
We previously spoke to Byron Golub, Vice-President of Product and Merchandising at Saatva, about the potential effects of tariffs. He told us that depending on the final structure of the tariffs, "the mattress industry can expect to see increased input costs across the board, and for some brands, this could translate to higher retail prices or slower lead times."
He explained that price increases would vary by brand, depending on supply chains and their dependence on imported materials, but said that Saatva would try to minimize the impact on its customers.
"While no final pricing decisions have been made," he told us, "we’re actively monitoring the landscape and evaluating where modest increases may be necessary, particularly for products using imported wire, hardware, or specialty fabrics."
What does this all mean if you're planning on buying a Saatva mattress? It might be that the tariffs don't actually come to anything, in which case everyone can just relax and enjoy a nice taco.
And in all fairness, the tariff messaging appears to be missing from Saatva’s site right now. That said, with or without tariffs, mattress price increases are a fact of life, and we wouldn't be surprised to see a Saatva price increase over the summer.
Which means that with the 4th of July being your last big chance to bag a mattress discount for the next few months, now's a sensible time to buy. So here are the top 4th of July Saatva deals we recommend taking a look at:
Saatva Classic: twin was $1,399 now $999 at Saatva
The Saatva Classic is our overall best mattress pick: a supremely comfortable innerspring hybrid that comes in three firmness options and two heights. As the brand's flagship mattress it's usually insulated from major price hikes, but as mattress MSRPs never go down it's always better to buy sooner rather than later, and right now a queen is at a very agreeable $1,699 (was $2,099). Learn why it's such a good buy in our Saatva Classic mattress review.
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid: twin was $1,349 now $949 at Saatva
The best thing about a flat discount at Saatva is you get a much bigger saving, proportionally, on its less expensive mattresses. So with $400 off all sizes, bringing a queen down to $1,599 (was $1,999), the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is well worth buying now. As our Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid mattress review attests, it's a great-all-rounder that provides plenty of cushioning and pressure relief.
Saatva Rx: twin was $1,999 now $1,599 at Saatva
If you're plagued by back pain, the Saatva Rx is a premium mattress worth investigating. We consider it to be the best mattress for back pain, and in our Saatva Rx mattress review our lead tester experienced reduced pain in her back after only one night sleeping on it. In Saatva's 4th of July sale you can get a queen for $2,999, down from $3,399
Deal alert! A king size Serta mattress for under $400? Yes please!
We've spotted a gooden. Who said king size beds are a luxury? When you can get a Serta 10" Cooling Gel Memory Foam mattress for $399 (was $799), starfishing can be an every day indulgence.
And who doesn't love a good starfish? (I say sheepishly as my husband yawns...)
Check out why we think this deal is a real stunner: Yes, you can get a king mattress for under $400 this 4th of July — here's how
This city is the worst in the US for bed bugs — here’s how to stop pests ruining your 4th of July getaway
Philadelphia may be the city of brotherly love, but if you're planning on taking a trip there over the summer you should be aware that it's also the city of bed bug bites.
According to pest control experts Terminix, Philadelphia is the most bed bug-infested city in the US, closely followed by New York, Cleveland and Los Angeles. Eek.
Summer is prime bed bug season and you're most likely to collect some in a vacation spot.
Bed bugs don't care whether they stay in a five-star hotel, a delightful AirBNB or a roadside motel, so it pays to be vigilant wherever you go if you don't want to bring unwanted guests home with you, by following our bed bug prevention tips. Here are the basics:
When you arrive, put your luggage in the bath tub, not on the bed. This keeps it bed bug-free while you check your bed.
Inspect the seams of your mattress for signs of bed bugs, particularly bed bug skin. Red and brown blood spots on the mattress are also a sign of bed bugs, and there are more things you can look out for; see our guide to 7 signs of bed bugs in your mattress.
Use the iron hack to find bed bugs in your hotel mattress. Assuming your hotel room comes with an iron, of course, this is a quick and easy way to spot the little critters.
Found bed bugs? Demand a new room, or change hotels if you can.
When you get home, put your luggage in the bath tub, check and wash all your clothing and then clean your luggage thoroughly.
Enjoy the evening folks!
Right, that's all from me. I'm going to leave you lovely lot to enjoy the celebrations, enjoy some fireworks and maybe find your dream mattress.
We hope you've found our tips, tricks, deals and advice helpful — here's to good sleep!
