Why today is a great time to buy a new mattress — and why delaying until Memorial Day might cost you more money

I've been tracking the Presidents' Day mattress deals for over two years and my biggest piece of advice is this: if you're thinking of buying a new mattress, now is a great time to do it.

Why? For a start, many of the best mattresses we've tested for all sleep styles are on sale today, including some that have dropped down to their Black Friday prices.

Today's top mattress sales

Why now is a great time to buy a new mattress

1. We're seeing the return of Black Friday prices

I track mattress sales year-round and this Presidents' Day, I'm seeing the return of many of the sales I spotted during Black Friday.

That includes 27% off at Helix when you use code TOMS27, which brings some of the best hybrid mattresses we've tested back down to the lowest prices we saw in 2025.

Black Friday is traditionally the biggest mattress sale of the year and it's when you can expect to find the lowest prices.

Presidents' Day, on the other hand, is typically a smaller sale. So when you spot the return of a Black Friday deal, you know you're probably getting a pretty good deal.

2. You can get ahead of price increases

A combination of mattress tariffs and increased costs of goods meant many sleep brands raised prices last year.

We saw price hikes hit some of our favorites, including Saatva, WinkBed, and Avocado. That meant by Black Friday 2025, some mattresses were over $100 more expensive than during Presidents' Day 2025.

I'll be honest; I expect the trend to continue in 2026.

So the prices we see right now might be the lowest they'll be moving forward.

Memorial Day is traditionally a bigger mattress sale than Presidents' Day (and I'll talk about it more below) but it's a few months away — who knows what prices we'll be looking at then.

3. You can prepare for warmer weather

It might seem like we're in the midst of winter still but it won't be long until spring shoots start poking through and then the next thing you know it's the first of the heatwaves and you're waking up at 3 a.m. coated in night sweats.

We have plenty of advice for sleeping better in the heat but one of the best things you can do is invest in a cooling bed.

Luckily, the Presidents' Day mattress sales include discounts on some of favorite cooling mattresses.

And if a mattress is out of your budget, I've also spotted some discounts on cooling pillows and sheet sets (like 20% off Cool+ Pillows at Coop.)

By shopping now, you can sleep smug and chilled when the weather changes.

4. It's a long time until the next big sale

After the deals come thick and fast in November and December, Presidents' Day is the first big mattress sale of the year.

But once Presidents' Day is over, the next major sales event isn't until the Memorial Day mattress deals on Monday 25th May.

Admittedly, I expect some Memorial Day discounts will start to roll in at the start of May but you're still waiting over two months to save on a bed. That's a long time to spend on a bad mattress.

If you've noticed a few red flags that your mattress needs replacing, act now to avoid poor sleep for the next few months.

7 mattress deals worth browsing this Presidents' Day

1. Saatva Classic (twin)
1. Saatva Classic (twin): was $1,399 now $999 at Saatva

I've been on the lookout for Saatva Presidents' Day deals and $400 off is just what I've been dreaming of. This reduces a queen to $1,779 (was $2,179) and believe me when I say this luxury mattress is worth the splurge. Taking top marks in our Saatva Classic mattress review, the hotel-style hybrid soothes back and joint pain. Our lead tester has previously described it as like a "full-body massage."

2. Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam (full)
2. Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam (full): was $219 now $179 at Amazon

The Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress has a squishy, body-hugging feel that will appeal to side sleepers. It can sleep hot (and the edge support is sub-par) but the motion isolation is excellent, as is the price tag: a queen is now just $199, reduced from $233.

3. Helix Midnight Luxe (twin)
3. Helix Midnight Luxe (twin): was $1,436 now $1,048.28 at Helix Sleep

The lead tester in our Helix Midnight Luxe mattress review almost had to be physically removed from this bed to let someone else try it out — it's just that comfortable for side sleepers. With code TOMS27 you can save extra on th Midnight Luxe (as well as every bed in the Helix mattress sale.) That makes our best mattress for side sleepers just $1,751 for a queen (was $2,398.)

4. DreamCloud Classic Hybrid (twin)
4. DreamCloud Classic Hybrid (twin): $399 at DreamCloud

This DreamCloud mattress sale isn't anything new for Presidents' Day but we'd be remiss not to mention this incredible value mattress. Punching well above its mid-range price tag in our DreamCloud Classic Hybrid Mattress review (a queen is only $699), it pairs full-body support with a touch of luxury. No wonder it earned top spot in our guide to the best mattresses in a box.

Customer score: ★★★★½ (9,300+ reviews)

5. Bear Elite Hybrid (twin)
5. Bear Elite Hybrid (twin): was $1,855 now $1,113 at Bear Mattress

If you spent last summer struggling with heat-induced insomnia, you might want to invest in a cooling mattress —the Bear Elite is our pick of the bunch. Particularly if you add the Celliant-infused cover (designed to turn heat into infrared energy), and with 40% off at Bear using code TOMS40, now's the time for an upgrade. A queen is $1,456 (was $2,427) with the upgraded cover and just $1,370 without (was $2,284.) Plus, you get a free bedding bundle.

6. Siena 10" Signature (twin)
6. Siena 10" Signature (twin): was $199 now $159 at Amazon

Our top cheap mattress (and one of the best memory foam mattresses we've tested), the Siena is a firm all-foam bed that's ideal for back and stomach sleepers on a budget. It's $294 for a queen (was $349) in the Amazon sale, which is excellent value. There's a small chance the price will drop further but it's just as likely it will return to full price, so we recommend buying now.

Customer score: ★★★★½ (900+ reviews)

7. Westin Heavenly Bed (twin)
7. Westin Heavenly Bed (twin): was $1,645 now $1,316 at Marriott Bonvoy Boutiques

We went hands-on with the Heavenly Bed, the signature mattress of Westin hotels, and we can see why it's so loved by customers. The thick cushioning combined with the reliable support makes it ideal for back sleepers and with 20% off, a queen is $1,996 (was $2,495). We did see a bigger sale over Black Friday 2025 but 20% tends to be the best you can expect from Westin, so we recommend you snap it up.
