It's a big season for SNL with episode 2 marking exactly 50 years since the inaugural show (despite all the hullabaloo surrounding the anniversary earlier in the year).  Later in the season, episode 12 will be the 1000th episode overall.

The first half of the season, running through the midseason holiday break, will consist of three blocks of three consecutive episodes each. The show will take scheduled breaks on October 25 and November 22 & November 29.

Season 51's  Christmas episode - usually a festive starfest with the biggest ratings all year - is slated for December 20. All they need to do now is get there without being cancelled (Note to James Austin Johnson: You KNOW the President will be watching).
