Don't Pay a Premium for a Five-Star Hotel Mattress — These Labor Day Deals Deliver Luxury Comfort for Less
Why spend a fortune on a hotel mattress when cheaper alternatives can provide an equally luxurious feel?

If you want to replicate the luxury feel of a five-star hotel bed, such mattresses aren't hard to find; our guide to what mattresses hotels use can quickly hook you up with an option from your favorite hotel chain.
However, there are plenty of more affordable mattress brands who can offer that plush, luxury hotel bed feel for less. For example, there's already a huge a Labor Day sale where you can take $400 off every size of the best-selling Classic Mattress at Saatva, which is our No 1 choice in our 2025 best mattress guide.
In fact, you'll find plenty more five-star mattresses at a lower-budget price in this year's Labor Day mattress sales, including from popular brands such as Avocado, DreamCloud, and even the mid-range Nectar. We're also expecting to report on even more luxe hotel-quality deals in this year's Labor Day mattress sales live blog — but for now, here's our top five picks...
5 luxurious and cheaper alternatives to hotel mattresses
1. Saatva Classic mattress: twin was $1,399 now $999 at Saatva
The absolute no-brainer solution if you want a bed that feels like a five-star hotel mattress is our perennial favorite, the Saatva Classic. This luxurious innerspring hybrid scores full marks across the board in our Saatva Classic mattress review, which means it's comfortable and supportive and incredibly well-made, and it comes in three firmness options and two heights so you can choose an option that's just right for you. The Saatva Labor Day mattress sale is happening now; follow our link to get $400 off every size, bringing the price of a queen down to $1,739 (was $2,139), and you'll also get free white glove delivery, a year's trial and a lifetime warranty.
2. Stearns & Foster Estate mattress: twin long was $1,899 now $1,699 at Stearns & Foster
Stearns & Foster used to be the brand behind the Ritz-Carlton bed, and its Estate mattress is a fine choice if you want hotel luxury without paying five-star prices. In our Stearns & Foster Estate mattress review, our tester tried out the firm pillow top version and found that it provided brilliant comfort and support as well as great temperature regulation and edge support, but lacked a little in terms of motion isolation. There are five models to choose from: soft, medium and firm, plus soft and firm pillow top options. A medium queen size is $200 off in the Labor Day sales and will cost $1,699; you'll also get bedding worth $259 included as well as a 90-night trial, free white glove delivery and a 10-year warranty.
3. DreamCloud Classic mattress: twin $399 at DreamCloud
If you're looking for hotel-style comfort but you're on a budget, there's one go-to option that's well worth your attention. The DreamCloud Classic mattress is a luxurious hybrid at an affordable price, and a new-and improved version of the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid (which we reviewed in our DreamCloud Mattress review). New additions include cooling fibers woven into the luxurious pillow top for a cooler sleep surface, and a more elegant bottom cover. The price of the DreamCloud rarely wavers and we pay little attention to the 'Total Value' figure on the site; a queen will almost always cost you $649, but the DreamCloud Labor Day sale includes a mattress accessories bundle worth up to $599, as well as a 365-night trial, forever warranty and free shipping.
4. Avocado Green mattress: twin was $1,499 now $1,274 at Avocado
For a hotel-style bed with impeccable eco-credentials, we'd strongly recommend the Avocado Green mattress. It's an organic mattress in a box that's notable for being hand-tufted, which means its layers will stay firmly in place, enhancing its longevity. Our Avocado Green mattress review rated it as the best organic mattress to buy right now, and found it to be especially comfortable for back sleepers and heavier sleepers. Side sleepers might do well to pay extra for the softer pillow top version, however. In the Avocado Labor Day mattress sale there's 15% off this bed; Avocado mattresses aren't always discounted and this is as good a deal as you're likely to see, with a queen size reduced to $1,784 (was $2,099). It comes with a one-year trial, 25-year warranty and free delivery.
5. Nectar Luxe Memory Foam mattress: twin $999 at Nectar
If you love the feel of memory foam and want a bit of hotel luxury, the Nectar Luxe is an attractive option at a similarly attractive price. It's 14 inches tall and made with three layers of premium foam, and in our Nectar Luxe mattress review we were impressed by cradling and contouring feel, outstanding motion isolation and stable edges. It's an excellent choice for side sleepers but a bit too plush for stomach sleepers, and if you're a hot sleeper who doesn't have hotel-quality aircon you may want to skip this one as it can trap heat. Like sister brand DreamCloud, Nectar holds its prices steady year-round, and the Nectar Labor Day mattress sale is business as usual. A queen size Nectar Luxe will cost you $1,249; you'll get a 365-night trial, forever warranty and free delivery.
Top 3 things to consider when buying a luxury hotel mattress...
1. Hotel mattresses aren't always superior
First: there's more to a hotel bed than the mattress. Part of the joy of sleeping in a high-end hotel is the crisp white bedding providing a fresh feel, while a luxury hotel turndown service can make your bed feel ultra-welcoming when you return to your room at night to hit the hay. Without at least approximating these extras, your luxury hotel mattress could end up feeling like, well, just another bed.
2. Not all mattresses are right for you in the long run
Second: that luxury mattress you slept so well on for a few nights may not be a viable long-term solution for you. Hotel beds are designed to be all-rounders, with a feel in the medium to medium-firm range most people will get on with for the duration of their stay. However if, for example, you're a lighter side sleeper or a heavier stomach sleeper, that hotel-style feel will soon get to be too firm or too soft for you, and you'll be wishing you'd opted for something more in line with your sleep needs.
3. There's probably cheaper options out there
Finally, there's the price. Most hotel mattresses that you can buy in the US are sold through the Marriott store and they're likely to be made by either Serta or BeautyRest. And if, like I just have, you spend ages combing through both brands' online stores in search of mattresses that look just like particular hotel beds, you'll come away disappointed and confused because there are so many models and options to choose from.
It's easy to feel that with hotel-branded mattresses, you're paying a premium for the name. It's also really hard to find out precise details about what materials make up each mattress.
That's why we'd recommend choosing one of our best luxury mattress picks instead. It'll deliver similar levels of comfort and support, it'll feature premium materials to boost their feel and longevity, you'll be able to pick a model that's more closely suited to your sleeping style, and it won't be as big a hit on your bank balance.
