These luxury mattresses are worth every cent — especially with up to 60% off in the Labor Day sales
While you should always wait for a mattress sale, these luxury beds are great value at MSRP

My personal position is that when you're shopping for the best mattress for your sleep requirements, you should spend as much as you can comfortably afford. For me, that's the Saatva Classic, a luxury innerspring hybrid that delivers an excellent balance of support and comfort. And now is a great time to buy as you can save $400 on the Saatva Classic at Saatva, with a queen down to $1,739 (was $2,139).
So why do I think you should spend as much as you can on a mattress? Because if you choose wisely, you'll be investing in a mattress that you'll be sleeping on for the next ten years or so. That's a lot of time in bed, so you want to make it count.
This means that in the Labor Day mattress sales I'd look for one of the best luxury mattresses, and as I say above my pick is the Saatva Classic. But once you start looking at high quality beds (often handcrafted using premium materials and traditional techniques), it feels like there's less scope for the sort of savings you find with cheaper mattresses. And you'll likely notice that sales are occasional for some brands, rather than running 365 days a year.
Generally, I'll advise you that if a mattress isn't discounted you should wait for the next sale to come along. But there are some options that I'd actually be prepared to pay full price for if I couldn't afford to wait, because I know they'd last long enough to deliver excellent value. The following four options fit the bill: they deliver in terms of price and quality, and they all come with long warranties, so you know they're meant to be an enduring presence in your bedroom...
New intro here
1. Saatva Classic: twin was $1,399 now $999 at Saatva
The all-conquering Saatva Classic is close to perfect. As our Saatva Classic mattress review attests, it's a luxurious hotel-style mattress that's breathable and durable with outstanding pressure point relief, lumbar support and motion isolation. It's basically excellent, and while it's virtually always sold at a discount, I have seen it at full price on occasion, when I've caught the Saatva site between sales. Knowing how good it is, I wouldn't object to paying the full whack for the Classic if there was no other option; $2,139 for a queen feels pretty reasonable. That said, if I saw it at MSRP I'd know that a sale would be back on within an hour or so, and hang on for a bit. Right now you can get that queen size for $1,739 by following our link, which is even more reasonable, and of course you'll get a 365-night trial, free White Glove delivery and a lifetime warranty.

2. DreamCloud Premier Hybrid: twin now $749 at DreamCloud
We rate the standard DreamCloud Classic Hybrid as the best mattress in a box overall and in terms of value, but because I sleep in various positions and don't weigh very much, I'm a lot more interested in the next model up. Our DreamCloud Premier Hybrid mattress review found that it was ideal for combination sleepers, with a quilted Euro top giving it a contouring feel without the 'hug' you'd find in a softer mattress. The price of the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid almost never changes, and I've given up even pretending that the 'Total Value' figure, next to the price you'll actually pay, has any meaning. $999 for a queen size is a solid price for this mattress, and it gets better: for Labor Day, DreamCloud is including a bedding bundle worth $599 when you buy, plus free delivery, a 365-night trial and forever warranty.

3. Avocado Green mattress: twin was $1,499 now $1,274 at Avocado
There are cheaper options in our best organic mattress guide but for me the Avocado stands out as one I'd be happy to drop my money on. Our Avocado Green mattress review highlights this bed's eco-friendliness and quality materials, and unlike many boxed mattresses, it's needle-tufted by hand, which means that its organic layers won't shift about over time. It's also not always discounted; you can never quite be sure when an Avocado sale will be, and if I was looking for a mattress when a queen was full price at $2,099, I'd take that. In fact, I might even be tempted to opt for the pillow top version and add $680 to the price if I'd just been paid. There's currently 15% off for Labor Day, though, which means that it'll cost you $1,784 (or $2,464 for the pillow top option), and it comes with a year-long trial, free shipping and a 25-year warranty.

4. Naturepedic Concerto Pillow Top mattress: twin was $1,699 now $1,359.20 at Naturepedic
This organic pillow top mattress from Naturepedic looks right up my street; sadly while its softer feel would be just the thing for my sleep preferences, my partner very much prefers a firmer mattress, and I think that the Concerto would be too plush for her (she'll find better-suiting options in our best pillow-top mattress guide. Our Naturepedic Concerto Pillow Top mattress review describes it as a hotel-style plush bed with high levels of comfort and support and, thanks to its quality build and materials, no danger of getting too warm at night. Made with organic cotton, wool and latex, as well as microcoils and full-size pocketed coils, and hand-tufted too, it's one very tempting luxury mattress. I'd pay $2,799 for a queen size, but there's 20% off for Labor Day, bringing it down to $2,239.20; that's an even better deal. You'll get a 100-night trial, free delivery and a 25-year warranty.
