Why do we rate the Tempur-Adapt + Cooling Mattress Topper as the best?

We think the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt + Cooling Mattress Topper is the only mattress topper we’ve tested that replicates the brand’s legendary pressure relief and best-in-class cooling. While it sits at the higher end of the price range for bed toppers, it’s still a comparatively budget-friendly alternative to buying a Tempur-Pedic mattress.

Our pick for the best mattress topper in the Tom's Guide Sleep Awards 2025, the Tempur-Adapt + Cooling pairs three inches of soft, body-hugging Tempur Material with a stay-cool cover that's soothing to the touch. Better yet, the cover is removable, washable, and comes with anchor straps.

One of my biggest issues with the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt Mattress was its temperature regulation — or rather, the lack thereof. I was kicking the covers off in the middle of the night, trying to cool down as the dense foams of the Tempur-Adapt held onto my body heat.

I was initially wary about testing the Tempur-Adapt + Cooling Mattress Topper because I didn't want to go through another bout of restless and sweaty nights. Fortunately, my fears were quelled thanks in large part to the cooling cover, which did a remarkable job of dispersing heat so I could indulge in the cozy embrace of the Tempur Material.

As a side sleeper who had a firmer hybrid mattress at the time, this topper was just what I needed to increase the pressure relief around my shoulders and hips. However, I did need to take some time to adjust to the plushness of the Tempur Material and find that "sweet spot" for comfort. (If you're a heavier back sleeper or a stomach sleeper, it may be too plush.)

It's easy to care for; the removable cooling cover is washer- and dryer-safe. (The tricky part is putting the cover back on — Tempur Material is "sticky.") The corner anchor straps kept the topper in place and were able to stretch to fit my 15" mattress (And yes, this made for a very tall bed!)

Tempur-Pedic mattress sales aren't too frequent, but deals for its mattress toppers are common, with coupon code TOPPERS cutting up to 30% off. A 10-year warranty applies — the same as a Tempur-Pedic mattress — but if you buy directly from Tempur-Pedic, you can't return the topper for any reason.
