The third rematch of the 2025/26 College Football Playoffs sees No.6 seed Ole Miss face No.3 Georgia at Caesars Superdome tonight. Their regular-season meeting was a thriller, which saw the Rebels enter the fourth quarter 35-26 up, only for the Bulldogs to score 17 unanswered points to win 43-35. Ole Miss were in dire need of a morale boost in the aftermath of Lane Kiffin's sudden departure, and they certainly got one in the first round. They reached the CFP quarter-final off the back of a dominant 45-10 beatdown of Tulane, quite an entrance for Kiffin's successor Pete Golding, whose first game as a head coach doubled up as this program's first-ever CFP win in its first-ever CFP appearance.

While Golding took the accolades, the result owed much to OC Charlie Weis Jr., who's sticking around for the playoffs before linking back up with Kiffin. That's because the Rebels defense surrendered 400 yards but produced four fourth-down stops with their backs against the wall. QB Trinidad Chambliss took care of business with three touchdowns and more than 300 yards.

This is Golding's defense, and it came under the spotlight after that encounter with Georgia not just because of the way it folded late on, but because it allowed 34 first downs, 510 total yards and never once managed to force the Bulldogs to punt. It must be said, however, that Kirby Smart's men are as clutch as it gets.

The SEC champions pulled off multiple second-half comebacks during the regular season, and a big reason for that is QB Gunner Stockton's composure. He's thrown 23 touchdowns to five interceptions in his first full campaign, and is never short of self-belief.
