Taking care of your sleep means taking care of your health

What do all the items we've recommended here all have in common? They can improve your sleep by helping you take care of your health.

For example, you can avoid a sleepless night or waking up with aches and pains if you have the right mattress for your sleep position.

Tracking your sleep can help you get the recommended 7-9 hours each night, allowing your body to fully rest and repair, while keeping the air in your bedroom clean means you can sleep undisturbed by allergies (and they're less likely to both you during the day!).

Ultimately, sleep and health are inextricably intertwined. Getting good rest helps your mental and physical health, and ensuring you're making the right choices for your health and well-being will help lead to a better night's sleep.

How to sleep better this winter

Granted, it's the holiday season, which means sleep might not be getting prioritized as highly (after all, there are parties to attend!).

But there are simple steps you can take to improve your sleep hygiene and help keep your rest on track.

As well as sticking to a regular sleep schedule as far as you can, a nighttime routine before bed helps reinforce to your brain (and body) that it's time to go to sleep.

Keeping your bedroom clutter-free, cool (a 2020 study suggests the optimum temperature for sleep is 65 to 70 F) and dark can help you fall asleep faster, and the latter two fixes can also prevent nighttime awakenings.

And, avoiding alcohol (and if that's not possible, at least not too close to bedtime),making sure you maintain a balanced diet and indulge in healthy nighttime snacks, and following our tips on how to exercise for better sleep, can all help improve your sleep this winter, too.
