The nation wept for JFK Jnr as the bereaved son of a fallen President and then watched him grow into one of the world's most eligible bachelors dating a string of high profile women including model Cindy Crawford and actresses Brooke Shields and Daryl Hannah.
When he fell for Carolyn Bassette, a heady mix of beauty and brains working for Calvin Klein, it seemed to be destiny foretold. They married in 1996 but, although the relationship was intense, the problems that come with a relationship in the private eye began to mount up.
In July 1999, with the couple receiving marriage guidance to keep their love alive, a light plane flown by JFK Jnr crashed into the ocean. His body and those of his wife and sister-in-law Lauren were found five days later.
