It’s been five months since I re-tested Saatva's 'instantly comfy' Classic mattress — here's how it helps me sleep through the night, and why it’s my top pick in the Presidents’ Day sales

A large part of my job is testing mattresses, bedding and sleep tech, and five months ago I re-tested one of America’s most famous luxury mattresses. That bed is the Saatva Classic, currently reduced to $999 (from $1,399) at Saatva for a limited time only.

At $1,779 for a queen (see our Saatva Presidents Day sale live guide) this is a premium model for sure, but it’s also the highest scoring mattress we’ve tested, ranking number one in our best mattress guide, and the four time winner of our Best Mattress of The Year Tom’s Guide Award.

I’ve slept on a Luxury Firm Saatva Classic for the best part of 18 months, and re-tested it from cover to base just five months ago. It saved me from months of broken sleep (before sleeping on the Classic I had ongoing hip and back pain that kept me awake), and it aced our various mattress tests, from cooling to edge support.

Here are five things I’ve learned during my long-term testing of the Saatva Classic about how it’s helping me to sleep through the night, and why it’s the best Presidents’ Day mattress deal for anyone struggling with the same problems.

Saatva Classic
Save $400
Saatva Classic : was $1,399 now $999 at Saatva

This is the cheapest price we've spotted so far in 2026 for the Saatva Classic thanks to a $400 saving in the Saatva Presidents Day sale. Normally you can save $200-$300 on the Classic in the monthly Saatva mattress sale, so this larger discount brings a queen down to $1,779. The Classic comes in three feels (I love the Luxury Firm) and two heights (11.5" and 14.5" – the tallest one can't be used with adjustable beds), and you'll get a year's sleep trial, lifetime warranty, and free White Glove Delivery.

How the Saatva Classic helps me sleep through the night

1. It doesn’t stop all motion; only the big movements that might wake you up

Motion isolation is one of those nerdy terms you’ll come across when shopping for a new mattress. It refers to how well (or not) a mattress reduces motion transferring from one side to the other.

Motion isolation is a hallmark of a good couples’ mattress and traditionally the best memory foam mattresses have ruled the roost here.

Yet despite being a bouncy hybrid innerspring mattress, the Saatva Classic earned an excellent 4 out 5 score in our motion isolation tests.

It does allow some motion to transfer across the bed, but it’s minimal – certainly nothing that’s ever woken me up, and I bed share with a big human and a little human who likes to wriggle around.

Allowing some transfer of motion also makes the Saatva Classic a breeze to move around on; no getting stuck in the mattress here.

Fun fact: The Saatva Classic was beaten in our motion isolation tests by the Siena Signature, a firm foam bed that earned a 4.5 out of 5 score and that costs a fraction of the price ($189 for a twin at Siena Sleep).

2. It maintains a great temperature for sleeping

I can’t sleep if I’m too warm, and I can’t sleep if I’m too cold. Like Golidilocks, I need a bed where the surface temperature is ‘just right’.

During my long-term testing of the Saatva Classic, I’ve never once woken up kicking off the covers to cool down. That’s a biggy for me because I’m a naturally hot sleeper, especially just before my period.

I've never overheated on the Saatva Classic, and our thermal imaging camera (shown here) backed up my real-life testing experience (Image credit: Tom's Guide, Future Plc)

The bed’s use of innersprings is clever, as they encourage greater airflow through the mattress. Organic cotton on the top also boosts breathability.

Similarly, I’ve never shivered or felt cold on the Saatva Classic. It earned a best-in-class 4.5 out of 5 score in our temperature regulation tests, and with a thermal imaging camera we were able to watch in real-time how fast it shed the excess heat it had absorbed – it dissipated over 70% of heat in under two minutes.

It was a tight race between the Saatva Classic and the Bear Elite Hybrid, but in the end the active cooling Bear took home the title of ‘best cooling mattress’ by shedding eight degrees of heat in under a minute during our heat dissipation tests.

3. It keeps pressure points at bay

I recently stayed in an Airbnb and the mattress was so uncomfortable, my hip pain came back within 10 minutes of lying on my side.

The discomfort was so bad at times that it radiated down my thighs, and I had to try back sleeping instead. Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep in the four nights I stayed there.

My experience of sleeping on the Saatva Classic is the opposite: no pain, just gentle contouring of my body.

I’m not surprised it scored 5 out 5 in our pressure relief tests. But why is it so good at relieving pressure points? And why is that important to getting a good night’s sleep?

Well, the Saatva Classic is made with a Euro pillow top. This creates an instant feeling of being cushioned. Next comes a layer of contouring, high-density foam, then a system of micro-coils and 12-gauge tempered steel support coils. This design helps the Classic to support and distribute body weight evenly.

That massively reduces the chances of pressure points forming. And when you have zero pressure points, your chances of sleeping through the night increase because you feel super-comfy.

The competition

I love the Saatva Classic, but I’m not blind to the other great mattresses on sale this Presidents’ Day.

I’m keen to get my hands on The WinkBed, and soon I’ll be publishing my review of the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress, a Saatva rival that my colleague Nicola can’t get enough of.

Until then, here are three other mattresses I’ve tried and rate for specific issues that could be waking you up at night…

Bear Elite Hybrid
The cool sleeper
Bear Elite Hybrid: was $1,998 now $1,299 at Bear Mattress

Want a mattress that actively cools you while sleeping and relieves pain? Try the Bear Elite Hybrid instead. This luxury mattress in a box uses celliant technology to capture excess body heat and turn it into infrared energy. This boosts circulation, which in turn reduces pain. Clever.

Siena Signature
The motion destroyer
Siena Signature: was $441 now $159 at Siena

The Siena Signature is a superb little mattress considering it costs $294 for a queen. It’s the third highest-scoring bed in our best mattress guide, and the strongest performer so far at motion isolation. If you love firm beds and share with a restless sleeper or pet, this is the mattress for you. It’ll eat up motion, so you can sleep deeper for longer.

DreamCloud Classic Hybrid
The body contourer
DreamCloud Classic Hybrid: was $1,346 now $399 at DreamCloud

If you want something softer and more cradling than the Saatva (where you sleep on top of the mattress), the DreamCloud Classic is the better choice. This current version is softer than the DreamClouds of old, so heavier bodies may find it too hamocking around the hips. But for lighter weight to average weight sleepers, I found it comfy in all positions.
