How to watch Netflix from anywhere in the world
Thanks to its near-ubiquity, you can use Netflix across borders as standard.
However, if you move to a country where Netflix costs less, for instance from the U.S. to Pakistan, the price of your bill won't automatically change and you'll continue to pay U.S. prices.
To unlock the cheaper price, you'll first need to cancel your account.
You'll then have to be patient and wait until the end of your billing cycle. Fortunately, you'll be able to continue using Netflix in the meantime.
Only then can you restart your account. The country you're in when you restart your account will dictate how much you pay.
If you've moved from the U.S. to Pakistan but you restart your Netflix account during a trip back to the U.S., you'll end up paying U.S. prices.
The smart solution? Use a VPN – we recommend NordVPN – to set your location (IP address) to your home country.
We specialize in testing and reviewing VPN services and NordVPN is the one we rate best. It's fast, has top-level security features, and has a brilliant track record when it comes to unblocking streamers like Netflix. It's terrific value too, and with over 7,000 servers across 115+ countries, we thoroughly recommend it.
Should you use a VPN for Netflix?
Although Netflix works across borders, its library of films and TV shows differs from country to country. "How I Met Your mother", for instance, is on Netflix but only in the U.S..
That means if you leave the country for work or on vacation, and fire up Netflix abroad, you won't simply be able to pick up where you left off with Ted and the gang... unless you use a VPN (Virtual Private Network).
A VPN can make it appear as if your device is in a completely different city, country or continent, regardless of where you are. So, it's ideal for sports and TV fans away on vacation or on business.
While broadcasters and streaming services are in a neverending game of Whac-A-Mole with VPN providers, even if Netflix detects that you're using a VPN, it'll still let you watch the films and TV shows it holds worldwide rights for, such as "The Thursday Murder Club", "The Crown", "You" and "Top Boy".
Our favorite? The best Netflix VPN right now is NordVPN – and it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee, not to mention over 70% off when you choose the big-value 2-year plan.
