It is the latest in a series of huge matches between these two big hitters, with some of the world’s best players, not to mention two of the world’s best coaches, taking each other on. Most recently, Chelsea came out victorious, winning last season’s Champions League final. Manchester City will no doubt be out for revenge.
Since then, Chelsea have continued their blistering form and remain unbeaten in the league, having swept aside Tottenham Hotspur in the second half of last week’s London derby, ultimately winning 0-3. They have one of the league’s meanest defences, conceding just one goal so far. This has been combined with the goal-scoring threat of Romelu Lukaku and the tactical nous of coach Thomas Tuchel to devastating effect.
Manchester City will, though, have no intention of giving up their Premier League title without a fight. They go into the game just three points behind Chelsea, having only managed a draw at home against Southampton in their last Premier League outing. Manager Pep Guardiola has admonished his own fans in recent times, urging them to turn up to the stadium and get behind the team. They will certainly be needing the away support in this Saturday kick off.
The blue half of Manchester is also enduring something of an injury crisis. John Stones and Ilkay Gundogan are among those who miss out, but Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias and Kyle Walker all return for the trip to Stamford Bridge. There are also starting places for Kevin de Bruyne and Phil Foden both start, while Raheem Sterling and Fernandinho are among the substitutes.
For Chelsea, goalkeeper Edourad Mendy returns from injury, while Reece James, N’Golo Kante and Timo Werner are all back in the starting line-up. But on the flip side, Mason Mount is injured and misses out here.
Here's how they line up:
