Officially titled "UFC Freedom 250", the seven-fight card on the White House lawn is being billed as a celebration of the United States' 250th anniversary. In a break with usual UFC convention, it's being staged not on a Saturday but a Sunday — which happens to be Donald Trump's 80th birthday.
The close friendship between Trump and Dana White means the President and UFC have enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship. However, UFC White House isn't so much a case of the promotion platforming Trump as it is Trump dragging it around in a headlock. It also speaks to the regard in which Trump holds the World Cup.
Things got personal in midweek, as Gaethje brought up Topuria's estranged wife and posted a video of his father, John Ray Gaethje, dismissing the Georgian-Spanish champion as "another little short guy". Whereas Gaethje, who stands at 5' 11", is an entertaining brawler, 5'7" Topuria is an elite striker.
In his last three fights Topuria has beaten UFC greats Charles Oliveira, Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski. However, he's been out of the Octagon for almost a year.
