The Stanley Cup Finals serve up a showdown between the two most fearsome defensive units in the NHL. The Carolina Hurricanes have crushed the competition, dropping just one game across the first three rounds of the playoffs, while the Vegas Golden Knights swept the Colorado Avalanche, who'd been the standout favorites after winning the Presidents' Trophy.

Although goaltender Carter Hart doesn't quite convince to the same extent as Frederik Andersen, whose save percentage of .931 has put him firmly in the frame for the Conn Smythe Trophy, John Tortorella arguably commands a more complete team.

Seven Vegas playes have scored 10 or more points this postseason, with Mitch Marner leading the points charts with 21 (seven goals, 14 assists) from Jack Eichel on 18 (two goals, 16 assists). Conversely, only three of Rod Brind'Amour's men have at least 10 points to their names: Taylor Hall with 16 (five goals, 11 assists), Jackson Blake with 15 (five goals, 10 assists) and Stankoven with 12 (nine goals, three assists).

It's worth noting, however, that the Canes have steamrolled their way to the Stanley Cup Finals without playing to their fullest potential. Their top-line trio of Sebastian Aho, Seth Jarvis and Andrei Svechnikov still haven't clicked this postseason. Perhaps they've been saving their best for the grand finale.

Who are the 2026 Stanley Cup Finals favorites?

The Vegas Golden Knights won both of the teams' meetings during the regular season — 4-1 at T-Mobile Arena on October 20, and 6-3 at Lenovo Center on October 28 — but the Carolina Hurricanes enter the series as the Stanley Cup favorites, due partly to the form of goaltender Frederik Andersen.
