“Live from London, it’s Saturday Night!” But for how long, exactly, remains to be seen. "Saturday Night Live UK" season 1 has been given a tentative six-episode run to prove itself palatable to British audiences.

The cast, which includes stad-up Emma Sidi, "Taskmaster" alumnus Ania Magliano, and king of Instagram sketch comedy Al Nash, has talent in abundance — the question is whether they'll be allowed to make the show their own.

It will follow a very similar format to the original, with each episode set to clock in at 75 minutes and feature an opening monologue, topical sketches, live music, and a satire of the week's news called Weekend Update. Magliano and Paddy Young serve as the anchors for the latter segment.

Jonno Johnson is the head writer and Charlie Skelton the Weekend Update head writer, and the 20-strong writers' room also features a certain Humphrey Ker, of "Welcome to Wrexham" fame.

Most Brits would probably rather have "Brass Eye", "The Mash Report", "Not the Nine O'Clock News" or "That Was The Week That Was" back over an American import, but "SNL" has unquestionable brand power. Does that prestige extend beyond the confines of North America or, indeed, either coast? That's up for debate (the 2024 tribute film "Saturday Night" was a box office bomb), and the fear is that "SNL UK" will turn out like an early episode of "The Office US" or the American "The Inbetweeners" adaptation.

The teaser (embedded below) showing "SNL" stalwart Tina Fey dressed up as Mary Poppins and doing a ridiculous British accent is unlikely to assuage any concerns, nor the fingerprints of James Longman, who was a producer on "The Late Late Show with James Corden". However, just as "The Office" clicked the moment it diverged from its forebearer, "SNL UK" deserves a fair crack of the whip.
