They are in a race against the clock but it turns out that this is no simple kidnap and ransom situation - the man they seek is "connected" and they soon make the acquaintance of crime boss Dominic McNair (Titus Welliver) and Sonny (Chaske Spencer) who introduces young Navajo men to a life on the wrong side of the law.
With the noir turned up to the max and perfect for the early 1970s Los Angeles miss-en-scene, "Dark Winds" succeeds in spinning a great story over eight episodes and revealing a hidden history about the efforts of the Navajo Tribal Police (now the Navajo Nation Police) to enforce the law across three Southwestern U.S. states.
