We've included the Tempur-Adapt in our guide to this year's best mattresses as our top pick for back sleepers. This mattress uses NASA-developed Tempur Material to offer body-hugging pressure relief, cradling comfort on the back, and a high-quality feel. (We wouldn't necessarily call it 'squishy,' however.)

We consider the Tempur-Adapt the best memory foam mattress for sleepers with back pain. It's packed with layers of NASA-developed Tempur Material for that signature body-hugging sensation. It has a medium-firm feel and not much 'squishiness,' as one may expect from memory foam. We found it just as supportive for front sleeping as it was for back sleeping in our Tempur-Adapt Mattress review. (Side sleepers may need time to break it in.) While supplies last, you can bring home a queen-size Tempur-Adapt Mattress (previous generation) for $1,539.30 after a 30% discount. That's $650 less than buying the latest Tempur-Adapt— which, if we're being honest, isn't terribly different from its predecessor. Is this mattress right for you?

Based on our testing, the Tempur-Adapt is ideal for back sleepers. It offers optimal pressure relief and full-body support. The motion isolation is top-notch, so if you share a bed, you are very unlikely to be disturbed by your partner's movements.

Any downsides? We did find the Tempur-Adapt retained heat, which isn't great if you're a naturally hot sleeper. (Check out our guide to the best cooling mattresses.)

For a budget alternative...

Siena Signature 10" Memory Foam Mattress: twin for $179 at Siena
This is at the total opposite of the price spectrum from the Tempur-Adapt, but these two all-foam beds share some similarities. In our Siena Memory Foam Mattress review, we found that this firm all-foam mattress was supportive but pressure-relieving for back and stomach sleepers. It also kept us at a reasonable sleep temperature — something we were unable to achieve with the Tempur-Adapt. If you need a new bed ASAP, give this budget mattress a look. During an evergreen sale, a twin is $179 while a queen is $359. You will also get a 180-night sleep trial and a ten-year warranty.
