147 gold medals will be contested across 49 events over 10 days of action, some of the standout events being the men's and women's 100m, men's 1,500m and heptathlon.

Lyles is chasing a third straight world title in the men's 100m. As ever, he remains a difficult personality to love, so there's hope surrounding Jamaican duo Kishane Thompson and Oblique Seville, and the 17-year-old Australian sensation Gout Gout, who's drawn comparisons with Usain Bolt. In the women's 100m, this will be five-time world champion Fraser-Pryce's last dance, and she'll line up alongside Olympic champion Julien Alfred and world champion Sha'Carri Richardson.

The men's 1,500m was arguably the most absorbing contest of last summer's Olympics. Billed as a straight showdown between best of frenemies Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Josh Kerr, from nowhere Cole Hocker pipped them both to the post. In the heptathlon, Katerina Johnson-Thompson returns to the track where it all went wrong four years ago, with thiam standing as her Everest.
