Tokyo 2021 champions Mol & Sorum took Beach Volleyball World Championships gold in Rome in 2022, but were eliminated at the quarter-finals stage by Ondrej Perusic & David Schweiner in Tlaxcala a year later. The Czech duo ended up going all the way, but despite being the reigning champions Mol & Sorum might not necessarily view them as their biggest threat.
David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig of Sweden, who took gold in Paris last year, have unfinished business with this particular event. Forced to withdraw from the 2022 through injury, they reached the world championships final as debutants in 2023, where they fell to Perusic & Schweiner. Cherif Younousse & Ahmed Tijan of Qatar and Stefan Boermans & Yorick de Groot of the Netherlands, meanwhile, have been consistently superb on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour.
Reigning women's champions Kelly Cheng and Sara Hughes of the U.S. are no more. Cheng will be in action at The Drive and Pinky Flat/Tarntanya Wama with new partner with Molly Shaw, but Hughes missed the cut. Coradello & Lopes have cleaned up since joining forces last year, but they're still not the most decorated Brazilians in the field.
Having triumphed in Rome before reaching the final in Tlaxcala, reigning Olympic champions Duda Lisboa & Ana Patricia Ramos have a chance to state their case as Brazil's finest. Two years after they were bested by compatriots Cheng & Hughes, Kristen Nuss & Taryn Brasher of the U.S. are hoping to improve on their third-place finish, while Melissa Humana-Paredes & Brandie Wilkerson of Canada are also amongst the favorites, having taken silver in Paris.
