Napoli come into their first Champions League tie of the season in solid form: the side currently sit second in the Serie A table after three wins and two draws from their opening five games. The star of the show has been 21-year-old winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has notched four league goals already, and manager Luciano Spalletti will be hoping he also shines on the biggest stage in European football.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have had a much tougher start to the season. The side have only won two of their first six Premier League games, and have suffered three draws and a defeat to bitter rivals Manchester United. Key player Mohamed Salah has been frustratingly out of form so far this season, but the talismanic attacker has a strong pedigree in the Champions League and remains a danger man that Napoli will no doubt be wary of.

In the wake of last season’s disappointing defeat to Real Madrid in Paris, Jurgen Klopp told supporters to book their hotel rooms already for the 2022/23 final as Liverpool would be back. Now the pressure is really on to live up to the promise, and a convincing victory against Napoli would be a great way to lay down a marker. However, the Reds don’t have the best CL record against their Italian opposition.

The sides have previously met four times in the Champions League group stages (in 2018/19 and 2019/20), and in those meetings Liverpool have only managed a single win. Furthermore, under Klopp the Reds have never even scored at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona stadium.

Can Liverpool overcome their poor start to the Premier League season and begin the road to fulfilling Klopp’s promise, or will Napoli’s surprisingly solid CL track record against Liverpool continue? Find out by watching a Napoli vs Liverpool live stream.
