I loved how this organic bed topper gave my cheap mattress an immediate luxury, non-toxic upgrade — and it's now down to its lowest price in the Presidents' Day sales

I've tested plenty of mattress toppers for Tom's Guide, but almost all of them have the same thing in common: they're made of memory foam. So one that immediately stood out from the crowd was the Birch Plush Organic Mattress Topper, which is currently down to $388.36 from $532 with code TOMS27 at Birch, as it's made out of naturally cooling and supportive latex.

Memory foam is great for softening beds (most picks in my best mattress topper guide are made from it) but as my bed is already made from memory foam, latex is a fit better for me. Plus, a latex mattress topper adds the eco luxury I dream of in a premium organic mattresses (but can never afford.)

Enjoying the organic latex mattress feel for less

The best organic mattresses are on my wish list for many reasons, including their durability, natural cooling, and support.

But the truth is that these luxury benefits come with a luxury price tag that only some of us can afford. And as my budget memory foam bed is comfy and supportive (plus it's one of the best cheap mattresses out there), I'm in no hurry to ditch it.

However, just because an organic mattress is out of my budget, it doesn't mean I can't enjoy the eco luxury of latex.

Instead, I use the Birch Plush Organic Mattress Topper. As well as being cheaper than a full mattress, it's also more versatile, meaning I can put it on any bed to add support, cooling, and non-toxic, clean comfort.

I found the set up to be easy (much easier than setting up a notoriously heavy latex hybrid) and its premium, natural materials left no nasty off-gassing,

But the best thing about this mattress topper is sleeping on it; its spring-mimicking latex supports me whether I'm sleeping on my side, back, or front.

It also works well with my cheap memory foam mattress

Don't get me wrong, I love my memory foam bed (the EGOHOME Black Mattress) but I know from experience that this kind of foam in't the most refreshing, especially if you like to move and change sleep positions like me.

And putting a memory foam topper on it? Forget about it.

I was once asked to test a memory foam mattress topper and after one night of the memory-foam-on-memory-foam stuffiness, I had to ship it off to someone else.

On the other hand, breathability was a big plus in my Birch Plush Organic Mattress Topper review. Its latex foams are much more breathable than airflow-resisting memory foam, which meant that there was no stuffiness when I put the Birch latex topper on my memory foam bed.

Latex foam also feels much springier than the motion-absorbing memory foam, so it kind of mimics the feel of the classic innerspring mattresses that I grew up sleeping on.

Overall, if you don't like the stuffiness or body-moulding feel of your memory foam mattress, I recommend trying the Birch Plush Organic Mattress Topper to save you the hassle of buying a new mattress.

The organic mattress topper I'd buy if I had a bigger budget

While the only latex mattress topper I've slept-on is the Birch Plush Organic Mattress Topper, another tester on my team has tried another organic latex bed topper.

After reading the Naturepedic Adagio Organic Latex Mattress Topper review, I just know this marshmallow-soft, side sleeper-friendly bed topper is the one for my bed.

Unfortunately, It's almost a $100 more expensive in a queen than the Birch, but now is the best time to invest as the Adagio 2" Organic Latex Mattress Topper is 20% off in Naturepedic's Presidents' Day sale.

Plus, it's still a much cheaper than an organic mattress, which can cost on average $1,665 for a queen.
