It’s going to be a repeat of the Qualifier when the Sydney Sixers take on the Perth Scorchers on Sunday at the magnificent Optus Stadium in Perth. Will the Scorchers – already the most successful team in the league – lift their sixth silverware, or can the Sixers close the gap by lifting their fourth trophy overall?

Since the Scorchers qualified for the final first, they’ve been granted home advantage. They’ve beaten the Sixers twice this year, both in Perth, so they’ll be hoping for a hat-trick of home wins come Sunday. This will also be the sixth time these two teams meet in the BBL final, with the Scorchers having won three of the previous five.

Right then, how do the teams look? For the Scorchers, Mitchell Marsh, Finn Allen, and Aaron Hardie are in rollicking form with the bat, with Allen just three runs shy of becoming the league’s highest scorer this year. He’ll be hoping to do that and much more.

Their bowling lineup might not be as star-studded or experienced as the Sixers’, but they’ve performed well as a group – especially left-arm orthodox spinner Cooper Connolly (their leading wicket-taker this season) and speedster Jhye Richardson, who picked up four scalps just a match earlier.

The Sixers’ road to the final hasn’t been as smooth as their rivals. They had to take a detour through the Challenger (where they beat Hobart quite comfortably thanks to an all-round performance by Joel Davies) after losing the Qualifier against the Scorchers in a, well, one-sided game.

They’ll surely want to turn the tide, and they’ll be looking to their Ashes superstars Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc to help them out big time. Both are having stellar seasons so far, but Smith’s role in particular will be important given how out of touch the Sixers’ batting lineup is. Yep, they made nearly 200 in the Challenger, but that wasn’t without a couple of meaty blows from those down the order.
