Set in 1930, the story finds the Downton Abbey estate and the Crawley family grappling with change: a financial threat, a scandal involving Lady Mary Crawley (Michelle Dockery) and her social standing.
The cast brings back many familiar faces (Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Jim Carter, Penelope Wilton, Laura Carmichael, etc.) alongside new arrivals Simon Russell Beale and Joely Richardson.
On Rotten Tomatoes the film enjoys a 91% critics’ score and 96% audience approval – the strongest for the franchise so far. In other words, it's a proper send-off.
