What World Cup friendlies can I watch this weekend?

World Cup fever is really building up now, and if you want a last chance to catch the teams before they enter the tournament, then this weekend is perfect.

Canada face Ireland tonight (7:30 p.m. ET), Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal welcome Chile tomorrow (1:45 p.m. ET), and USA take on Germany at Soldier Field (2:30 p.m. ET). There is also a chance to see Thomas Tuchel's England in action as they play New Zealand on Saturday (4 p.m. ET).

Who can forget about the South American sides as well. At 6 p.m. ET on Saturday, Brazil have their first game in America against Mo Salah's Egypt and Argentina begin their preparations with a fixture against Honduras (8 p.m. ET).

👀 Just four remain from 2006

Only four players remain from the 2006 World Cup — Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Luka Modrić, and Guillermo Ochoa.

I doubt many would have expected Ronaldo, Messi, and Modrić to have the stellar careers they have had, and Ochoa has gone on to become something of a World Cup hero, particularly for his performances at the 2014 tournament.

Will these legends have an impact on this year's tournament? Messi can break the all-time scoring record at the World Cup, while it would be a picture-perfect ending to the international careers of Ronaldo or Modrić if either were to win the tournament.

What impact will the weather have on this World Cup?

One thing that has been hotly discussed heading into this World Cup (mind the pun) is the weather.

Temperatures at certain stadiums are expected to remain above 30°C, and for some European nations, that could have a detrimental effect.

Nor should the threat of thunderstorms and torrential rain be overlooked, with last year's Club World Cup disrupted by both.

England arrive 👀

The Three Lions have landed in Florida as they continue preparations for the World Cup. They have their opening friendly on Saturday against New Zealand.

You can stream the game free ITVX in the U.K..

World Cup warm-up friendlies getting underway

The weekend saw some of the opening World Cup warm-up friendlies take place as teams build up to the World Cup kick-off in 10 days.

The USA defeated Senegal 3-2 yesterday, with Christian Pulisic on the scoresheet. Germany and Brazil also got their preparations underway with emphatic wins against Finland (4-0) and Panama (6-2), respectively.

Ecuador, South Korea, Mexico and Switzerland also began their preparations with victories, but arguably the result of the weekend came from World Cup debutants Cape Verde. The Blue Sharks saw off Serbia 3-0.

Who should I be watching at the FIFA World Cup?

New to soccer? Well, there is nothing better than the World Cup to get you interested.

This year we have a host of amazing talent heading out to the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, and some of the biggest names. Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) will be looking to add a World Cup to his incredible trophy haul, Lionel Messi (Argentina) will be looking to break the World Cup scoring record, and Mohamed Salah will be looking to take his Egypt side as far as possible.

And there is much more than that, with Kylian Mbappé (France), Harry Kane (England), and Lamine Yamal (Spain) all sure to light up the tournament as well.

World Cup Mini Quiz

The MetLife Stadium will play host to the final on the 19th July.

Where can I stream the 2026 World Cup for free?

The 2026 World Cup will be free-to-air in multiple countries, including the UK (BBC/ITV), Australia (SBS), and Belgium (VRT/RTBF), just to name a few.
