We had a new champion last season in the Hobart Hurricanes, driven by an inspiring campaign from homegrown all-rounder Mitch Owen, which also earned him a national cap. Melbourne Stars, the only team yet to lift a BBL title, will look to follow suit under the leadership of star all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, with veteran Glenn Maxwell providing experience and firepower.

The Perth Scorchers, the undisputed giants of the competition, have won five of the league’s 14 seasons and will look to further their trophy count. Meanwhile, the three-time champions Sydney Sixers have bolstered their top order by roping in Pakistani superstar Babar Azam, with fellow internationals Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shadab Khan also set to feature this season.

Last year also saw format tweaks that remain in place, with each team playing 10 matches instead of 14, and the top four progressing to the knockout stage. While The Ashes remains the centerpiece of the Australian summer, the BBL adds the fast-paced fun and flair of T20 cricket.
