I slept on the same Saatva mattress topper used by Team USA’s Olympic gold medalists in Milan — here’s how it supports restorative sleep
I completely understand why these world-class athletes were given a Saatva Graphite Memory Foam Mattress Topper for their beds

During the 2026 Winter Olympics, Saatva provided 400 of its Graphite Memory Foam Mattress Toppers to Team USA athletes — including the gold medalists of Team USA Hockey and U.S. Figure Skating. Surely, a good night's rest contributed to their success, but how much of that was because of the topper?
As someone who's tested the Saatva Graphite Memory Foam Mattress Topper, I can surmise that it did play a role in helping these elite athletes receive the quality rest they needed to perform at their best. I share my reasons why below.
Saatva makes some of the best mattresses on the market, but if you’re shopping on a smaller budget, its luxury bed topper can deliver an instant comfort boost at a fraction of the cost. Plus, it comes with a 180 nights to try it out, which is a longer trial than what you'd get with some mattresses.
This is three inches of graphite-infused memory foam, wrapped in an organic cotton cover. Unfortunately, this item isn't discounted during the regular Saatva mattress sales, but it is still among the most affordable bed toppers in the brand's lineup.

TL;DR — why you should buy the Saatva Graphite Memory Foam Topper
- It adds plushness to unyielding beds — excellent for pressure relief. (It helped with my back pain.)
- Despite its 'gooey' feel, it doesn't trap heat. The graphite and cotton cover help disperse heat.
- The dense foam is excellent at preventing movement transfer, and the elastic anchor straps keep the topper in place.
- It comes with 180 nights to trial it at home. A 1-year warranty also applies.
Why the Saatva Graphite Memory Foam Topper takes gold
Not to brag, but I originally reviewed the Saatva Graphite Memory Foam Mattress Topper years before it became popular at the 2026 Winter Olympics. For better or worse, I was laid up with a back injury at the time of testing, but it was a great chance for me to gauge its comfort.
During my review period, I was sleeping on the Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress, which I rated an 8 out of 10 for firmness. This mattress topper added more give to the surface, but without skimping on support. (It brought the comfort level to a medium-firm.)
You might not become an Olympian, but you can sleep as well as one with this Saatva mattress topper. Here's how it promotes restorative sleep...
1. Superb pressure relief with full-body support
This topper comprises a 3-inch layer of body-hugging memory foam. It yielded excellent pressure relief, especially for my achy lower back. Since it gave my mattress a more balanced level of firmness, I was able to sleep in any position and generally feel well supported.
That said, I felt most at ease on my back — partly due to my injury. I'm regularly a combination side and front sleeper, and although I was comfortable in those positions, I had to regularly move around whenever my hips started to sink.
This is a plush topper that's reminiscent of some of the best memory foam mattresses. For subtle pressure relief with an emphasis on added support, consider the 1.5-inch Saatva High-Density Foam Mattress Topper instead.
2. No overheating here
Between the graphite-infused foam and the organic cotton cover, this mattress topper is designed with cooling in mind — and in my experience, it delivers.
I’m prone to sleeping warm, especially on softer all-foam mattresses, but I didn’t wake up sweaty while sleeping on the Saatva Graphite Memory Foam Topper. Dense foam can trap body heat, but the cooling technology here does its job, allowing sleepers to enjoy the topper’s body-hugging feel without overheating.
If you can't afford to upgrade to one of the best cooling mattresses, adding this Saatva mattress topper will provide a similar level of relief from the heat.
3. Good news for couples on the brink of sleep divorce
This dense memory foam topper offers a major benefit for co-sleepers — motion isolation. If you and your partner can't sleep due to the other's movements reverberating across the surface, the Saatva Graphite Memory Foam Topper can help put a lid on that (so to speak).
Even if either one of you can't help but fidget overnight, this topper has corner anchor straps to help keep it in place. I move around quite a bit in my sleep, but this topper didn't budge at all.
After sleeping on this topper, I can see why it appealed to world-class athletes
Olympic athletes need to perform at their highest level, which makes sleep non-negotiable. I may just be a modest beer league hockey player and semi-retired martial artist, but the Saatva Graphite Memory Foam Topper gets my full endorsement for promoting recovery and quality sleep.
While my back didn’t heal overnight, the pressure relief from this topper did aid my healing. When I slept on my back, my weight felt evenly distributed, and I could indulge in the deep hug of the memory foam. At the same time, the graphite-infused foam and breathable cotton cover helped prevent heat buildup, so I wasn’t kicking off the covers in the middle of the night.
And if you share a bed, you won’t have to worry much about feeling your partner’s movements, or vice versa. (Granted, Olympians generally sleep solo, so they're free from distractions; this topper comes close to recreating that experience if you share a bed.)
For the full Saatva Olympic sleep experience, you can add the Saatva Winter Bundle (from $485 at Saatva), which was provided to members of U.S. Figure Skating and Team USA Hockey. It comes with the Saatva Latex Pillow (which we also reviewed), the Saatva Organic Sateen Sheet Set, and a mattress pad.
