Aston Villa and Newcastle are two teams that fancy themselves disrupters of the established Premier League elite, but both enter the 2025-26 Premier League season after difficult summers. You can watch Aston Villa vs Newcastle from anywhere in the world with a VPN.

Still smarting from failure to qualify for this season’s Champions League at the final hurdle, Aston Villa have endured a difficult summer, which has seen the side unable to make many major additions due to a need to stay within the PL’s financial regulations. The big acquisition is Evann Guessand from OGC Nice in France’s Ligue 1, and Unai Emery will hope he can share the goal-scoring load with talismanic forward Ollie Watkins. The imminent sale of local boy Jacob Ramsey (to, coincidentally, Newcastle) has cast a further cloud over Villa Park in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Newcastle has been the club everybody has been talking about this summer, but not for the right reasons. Manager Eddie Howe has faced a tricky situation as star striker Alexander Isak made clear a desire to move to title-holders Liverpool, and will miss this game as the issue remains unresolved. While the Magpies have also suffered several high-profile rejections in the transfer market, they have strengthened, adding Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale and Malick Thiaw to their ranks.

Recent meetings between Aston Villa and Newcastle have tended to be one-sided affairs. In fact, you have to go back to February 2022 for the last time a league match between the two clubs was decided by just a single goal. There have been 21 cumulative goals scored across their last five meetings, so the odds would suggest a goalless draw is pretty unlikely.

As for team news, Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is suspended following a red card on the final day of last season, while Morgan Rogers is suffering from an ankle issue and is a doubt. Newcastle have a mostly clean bill of health, with only Joe Willock side-lined, but Jacob Ramsey is very unlikely to feature; his switch from Villa is yet to be fully signed off.
