I tested the Nectar Classic Hybrid to see how it compares to its memory foam sibling — here's why I recommend it to side sleepers

The Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress is excellent value for money and gets (almost) everything right for those who sleep on their sides

Tom's Guide Verdict

The Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress is a mid-range mattress that provides decent pressure relief and ample support for side sleepers. It feels like a quality mattress, and it looks like one too — yet costs $799 for a queen. That's excellent value for money and undercuts some of its direct competitors by $1,000. However, I found its temperature regulation was a bit hit and miss and, as a bed-sharer, felt as though motion isolation could be stronger. But these aren't necessarily deal breakers. With its 365-night sleep trial and forever warranty, it's a good-enough mattress that's well worth the price.

The Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress is a mid-range foam and spring mattress that I've come to appreciate for what it is — a mid-range hybrid mattress from a reputable brand that provides soothing, body cradling comfort for those who sleep on their sides.

I know just how important it is to sleep on the best mattress so I've tried it out in a queen size to see how my body adjusts to it and whether it'll give me a decent, undisturbed nights' sleep.

But even for a side sleeper there is more to choosing a mattress than pressure relief. I'm talking about temperature regulation, motion isolation and edge support; everything included in our new mattress testing methodology. I've spent several years testing mattresses and consider myself something of an expert, so read my full Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress review to see if it's the one for you.

Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress: Review in brief

I've reviewed a lot of mattresses over the past few years, and I'm no stranger to a Nectar mattress either. The Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress is the brand's value pick for comfort and support and, compared with other hybrid mattresses, I imagine is going to be an absolute steal for many budgets.

That said, it's not the most competitively priced. For example, the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid mattress is priced from $349 which is quite a bit less than this Nectar mattress. It scored exceptionally well for its price bracket, earning praise for its comfort levels, support and temperature regulation.

And compared with the Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress that I have also tested, I found that both mattresses cradled my hips and shoulders as I slept on my side with equally good responsiveness and edge support. The biggest difference I noticed is that the Premier Hybrid has better motion isolation for bed sharers, no doubt owing to the thicker layer of memory foam on the Premier Hybrid. I've found that a depth of a mattress makes a huge difference.

The Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress has a mattress depth of 12 inches, the thinnest of all Nectar Hybrid mattresses. It has six layers of all the same materials (foam, memory foam and coils), you just get more of these materials packed into the layers as the mattresses get deeper – and the price increases by $300 each time.

Throughout our testing the Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress, my husband and I found that we slept most comfortably on side; the memory foam contoured around our hips and shoulders, relieving any aches and pains. It also offers decent edge support.

However, I did overheat on this mattress on a few occasions. While yes, there is a "cooling top cover" and individually wrapped coils to promote air flow, there are no natural materials that can better regulate temperature.

As a bed sharer, I also noticed the transfer of motion across the surface of the bed whenever my husband got in or out of bed. I also noticed that I felt less supported when I sat up in bed, as the mattress dipped in the middle so weight wasn't evenly distributed when more targeted pressure was applied to the surface of the mattress.

That said, for the price, I still think that it is one of the best hybrid mattresses that you can buy. It's a competitive offering that'll cost you $799 for a queen after regular Nectar mattress sales. Nectar rarely drops prices so it's good value whenever you buy, and a 365-night sleep trial will mean that you'll have plenty of time to try it out before you fully commit.

Nectar Classic review: Price & trial

  • It comes with a 365 night sleep trial and forever warranty
  • Year-round Nectar discounts means it's always a good time to buy
  • A queen Nectar Classic Hybrid typically costs $799

Nectar mattress sales remain steady throughout the year meaning that you can score a discount of up to 66% off a vague 'total value', even when it's outside major sales events such as Black Friday.

The way it often goes is the more you add to cart, the more you save. For example, if you're buying a mattress then you might as well add a mattress protector, sheet set and cooling pillow to save money of those items too.

Here’s the current total value and sale pricing for the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress:

  • Twin: $1,346 (usually on sale for $499)
  • Twin XL: $1,488 (usually on sale for $749)
  • Full: $1,707 (usually on sale for $749)
  • Queen: $1,892 (usually on sale for $799)
  • King: $2,433 (usually on sale for $999)
  • California king: $2,433 (usually on sale for $999)
  • Split king: $2,976 (usually on sale for $1,498)

As well as regular mattress sales, you'll get a 365-night sleep trial, a lifetime warranty, plus free and fast shipping when you buy the Nectar Classic Hybrid.
If you're a military member or first responder then, once verified, you'll receive a discount code for an extra 5%

It's a competitive offer. Saatva similarly offer a 365-night home trial and lifetime warranty, plus a free white glove delivery service which means that they'll carry your new mattress into a room of your choice, set it up for you and remove your old mattress. This is often an extra service that you have to pay for with other mattress brands, Nectar included.

Nectar's White Glove Delivery service is optional and comes with a non-refundable fee, typically $199. This fee covers delivery, unpacking, in-room setup and haul-away of one old mattress.

The service is there to ensure a hassle-free experience but if you want to save some dollars, and have the strength, then, if your old mattress is in a good condition, it can just as easily be recycled in most cities for a small fee, or donated to local charities, shelters or organizations like the Furniture Bank of America.

Nectar Classic Hybrid: $799

Nectar's currently running its Memorial Day mattress sale but its prices are pretty much business as usual. If you buy today you'll get a queen size for $799, which is a good price for this mattress, and you'll also get a 365-night trial, a forever warranty and free delivery.

Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress: Design

  • At 12", it’s Nectar's least deep hybrid mattres
  • Four layers of foam and coils
  • Side handles to help maneuver

At 12 inches tall, the Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress is the shallowest option in the Nectar hybrid mattress range. While this is so, a depth of between 12 and 14 inches is considered an optimum depth for supporting the side sleeping position.

Sleeping on a mattress with this depth will also make it more accessible for those with mobility issues by making it easier to get in and out of bed. It'll also mean that you won't be rushing out to buy any extra-deep fitted sheets in a hurry because a 12-inch mattress is a standard depth across the board.

Like other Nectar hybrid mattresses, the Classic has a soft, breathable fabric cover to help you keep cool while antimicrobial properties maintain a healthy sleep surface. This cover isn't removable but it can be spot cleaned. I'd always recommend slipping on the best mattress protector you can find, even if the cover is removable, because this is easier to clean and it'll ultimately help to keep the mattress surface clean and stain-free, too.

Underneath the cover is an inch of pressure relieving memory foam. This is made to contour around the body, cushioning your back and hips. All other Nectar hybrid mattresses have this layer but more of it, with the Nectar Ultra Hybrid Mattress sporting four inches of this foam as its second layer.

Beneath this pressure-relief layer is a responsive support layer. Two inches of responsive support foam promotes spinal alignment, ensuring that you stay correctly positioned on the mattress. Next up, eight inches of individually wrapped innerspring coils deliver enhanced support, superior motion control and upgraded edge stability.

The one-inch foundation layer ensures that all of the above works in harmony. It provides a stable base to enhance stability and endurance of the mattress while you're sleeping on it. A heavy-duty fabric cover secures the mattress core, keeping all the foam and spring layers aligned and enhancing its longevity.

The complete Nectar Classic Hybrid is folded, rolled and wrapped into a box. As you begin to unbox the mattress, be prepared for all those compressed layers to expand quickly as you start to cut through the plastic wrapping.

I would advise positioning your new mattress onto the bed frame before removing it from the box and, when it's unfolded, to pivot it so it's on the bed frame where you want it. It weighs 62lbs - 132lbs so use the handles on either side of the mattress to help maneuver if you need.

Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress: Setup

  • Free and fast shipping within 1-2 days in the US
  • Arrives folded, compressed, wrapped & rolled in a box
  • No obvious off-gassing during unboxing

The Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress ships within one to two days, and delivery is always free. It's one of the best mattress in a box brands in America so, as I now expect, this Nectar mattress arrived tightly folded, rolled, vacuum-packed and stuffed into a neat carboard box. This made it easy to lift and carry, reducing a king size mattress to a box measuring just 18.5 x 18.5 x 35in (although the box handles that contained my mattress gave up under the weight).

White Glove Delivery isn't as standard, and I hadn't opted for this, but for an extra $199 you can have your new mattress unpackaged and positioned, and your old mattress removed. This premium service will be carried out by a third-party logistics provider. If you want it, you'll need to select it at checkout because it doesn't look as though you can choose it at any other time. The fee is also non-returnable, even if you later return your mattress.

My delivery box was in-tact with no obvious damage, and there was no damage to the protective wrapping of the mattress inside either.

On the outside of the box was a QR code to "help with unpackaging". When I scanned this I was taken to the Nectar homepage which provided no help whatsoever. What I would have found more helpful was a little cutter to slice through the plastic wrapping. This is something that Nectar used to provide a year or so ago, but not any more it seems. Instead, I used a pair of kitchen scissors to first remove the plastic sheets that held together the folded mattress, then the plastic that was wrapped around the entirety of the mattress.

The Nectar Classic Hybrid started to unroll as soon as the scissors made the first incision to the plastic, and it started to inflate as soon as the scissors made a start removing the plastic from the unfolded mattress.

It took under an hour for the mattress to fully inflate. As it was inflating, I didn't notice any strong odor emitted, which is often associated with mattresses that are vacuum sealed. This is called mattress off gassing which refers to the release of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) into the air after being sealed; the stronger the smell, the higher the level of VOCs. I did open the window, just in case, and I didn't notice the odor after a night with the windows shut either.

Delivery and setup score: 5 out of 5

Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress: Sleep comfort

While testing the Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress my body has adjusted to its feel and the headache of securing a sub-$400 mattress has vanished. As far as "value" hybrid mattresses go, this mattress has given my body the rest it needs. It has given my hips and shoulders incredible support and pressure relief which, for me, has challenged the mattresses in the more "luxury" sleep market.

However, sleep comfort is subjective so I've also conducted a series of objective tests to fully assess the Nectar Classic Hybrid. In my opinion it is one of the best mattresses for side sleepers, especially if you're on a budget.

Motion isolation: 3 out of 5

When you're looking for the best mattresses for couples you'll need to look out for good motion isolation. This will stop movement traveling from one side of the bed to the other which can happen when your partner gets in and out of bed, or changes sleeping position.

As a regular mattress tester I'm now sensitive to any motions on the mattress. I previously hadn't thought that motion isolation was a "thing", and was something to be expected when sharing a bed. How wrong I was. Some mattresses are better than others at this.

To test motion isolation on the Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress I took note of any motion felt, and also tried out some more objective testing. This involved dropping a 10lb kettlebell onto the surface of the mattress, first 25 inches and then 12 inches away from a single wine glass. I then repeated this five times.

On the first, second and third drop at 25 inches, the glass wobbled a little. And on the fourth and fifth drop at 25 inches the wine glass wobbled, then toppled.

Comparatively the wine glass toppled over at 12 inches away from where the 10lb kettlebell dropped, every time. I had planned on also testing at 4in away, to simulate a change of sleeping position when sharing a bed, but thought better of it because I wanted to look after the one wine glass we have.

These findings align with my experience of sleeping on this Nectar mattress. I noticed when my husband changing sleeping position, and when he got in and out of bed.

This all indicates a level of motion isolation that's good but far from exceptional, and it's a common occurrence with the more affordable hybrid mattresses because there is less foam and memory foam to absorb the movement. If you want to stick to your budget rather than blow it, opt for a memory foam mattress. Alternatively, the Saatva Contour5 mattress excelled at absorbing movement when on test.

Temperature control: 3 out of 5

Nectar says that the soft fabric cover on the Classic Hybrid Mattress has cooling properties, and the individually-wrapped coils encourage airflow. While, on the whole, I didn't wake sweaty, I did feel unusually warm when I slept on this mattress.

For me, mattresses that include layersof natural materials such as cotton or wool have better temperature regulation.

To encourage mattress breathability and ensure that my body temperature is regulated, I always used 100% cotton sheets and a wool comforter. Not only do these feel nicer and are easy to care for (just hang the comforter to air outdoors), but your skin can breath and heat is expelled.

That said, if you're a hot sleeper you will doubtless benefit from one of the best cooling mattresses. These quickly dissipate heat while still offering incredible support and pressure relief. Our favorite example is the Bear Elite mattress, which comes in three firmness options so it's comfortable for all sleepers, has zoned lumbar support for back pain relief and isolates motion better than the Nectar does.

Edge support: 4 out of 5

Edge support is a term to describe the sturdiness of the perimeter of a mattress. Strong edge support on a mattress will enable you to sleep on the bed’s edge without rolling off, or comfortably sit on the edge before getting up, without feeling that the mattress has collapsed beneath you.

To test this I slept on the edge of the bed (courtesy of my toddler). I also placed a 56lb weight along the mattress’s perimeter and measured how far it sank. By both accounts there was little sinking.

I didn't feel as though I was about to roll off the bed when sleeping on the edge, and I also felt supported when sitting at the foot or side of the mattress to stand up. I asked my husband what he thought about the edge support and he agreed with me that this specific ask of the mattress was "good".

The Nectar Classic Hybrid has an inch of pressure relieving memory foam and two inches of responsive support foam that likely compressed beneath the weight of the 56lb weight. The weight remained stable three inches away from the edge of the bed; any closer to the edge then it started to roll over. It sank just 2.75 inches at the edge and 3.5 inches at the foot of the mattress.

In comparison, the Helix Midnight Luxe, our top side sleeper mattress, showed a sinkage of five inches at both the side and foot. This however is likely due to its thick Euro top, something you don't get with the Nectar Classic Hybrid, and in our roll-off test or tester reported that she was able to lie right up to the edge of the bed without it feeling unstable.

Pressure relief: 4 out of 5

I have been used to sleeping on a hybrid mattress with a pillowtop for several months so it took some adjusting, especially while sleeping on my side, to adjust to the support and cushioning provided by the Nectar Classic Hybrid. Pressure relief is the balance of this support and cushioning to reduce pressure build up where the body meets the mattress.

To objectively test pressure relief, I placed a 56lb weight onto the hip and shoulder area of the mattress. I then measured how far the weight sank, and how quickly the materials returned to form once the weight is removed.

In the area where shoulders would lie, in a side sleeping position, the weight sank by 2 inches. Then, in the area where hips would lie, in a side sleeping position, the weight sank by 3 inches.

This is a one-inch difference. And I can feel the difference when I lie on the mattress.

As a side sleeper, contouring around the body is important because it gives just the right level of support and cushioning. My spine felt aligned, and my shoulders didn't feel as though they were digging in to the mattress.

Sinking three inches into the mattress meant that my body was sinking into the inch of pressure-relieving memory foam, and two inches of responsive support foam.

Having removed the weights from the Nectar Classic Hybrid, the foams bounced back almost instantly. On the Helix Midnight Luxe it took upwards of 10 seconds for the foam to regain its form. Generally, the faster the layers to return to form, the easier it is to change sleeping position without feeling "stuck".

Overall, I found that this Nectar mattress had very good pressure relief. I felt comfortable while sleeping on my side most nights with my joints and limbs feeling weightless. And my husband concurred.

However, I personally did experience some inconsistency with pressure relief. Rather disappointingly on a few occasions, I woke in the morning with a dead arm to speak of. I must have been lying a little out of alignment, or something, but this occurred while I was sleeping on my side.

The Classic Hybrid recovers quickly after pressure is applied, and I didn't feel any resistance to switch up which side of my body I was sleeping on. Shame I didn't switch sooner, to avoid the dead limbs. I didn't feel any benefit to this pressure relief while sleeping on my back or front, so I'd be more inclined to DreamCloud Classic, which is better (and cheaper) all-rounder.

Firmness

Mattress firmness is rated on a scale of 1-10, with one indicating exceptionally soft and 10 incredibly firm. Nectar place the Classic Hybrid as an 8 out of 10 for firmness, but I'd rate it slightly softer at 6 out of 10.

Firmness is subjective so I asked my husband and mum how firm (or soft) they found the mattress.

My mom prefers a firm mattress so she deemed the Classic Hybrid "too soft" straight off the bat. She felt that it lacked support, but she is a back sleeper so that makes sense.

When I asked my husband he also said that the mattress was too soft compared with other hybrid mattresses we've tested. My husband is 6'4" and of a larger build, and he felt that he sank too much into the foam layers as he slept on his side.

This medium-firm feel is ultimately better for the side sleeper but, if you're a larger build or sleep in multiple positions, then you may prefer a firmer mattress. The Helix Twilight Mattress, for example, is a firmer mattress aimed at side sleepers so it may be worth a look.

Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress: Customer reviews

  • 4.5 out of 5 stars from 3,512 verified customer reviews (May 2026)
  • Critics deem the mattress either "too soft" or "too firm"
  • 5 star reviews cite its pressure relief on achy joints

As well as conducting my own tests, I also look to see how other customers have fared with their Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress. It was fairly easy to to see what others had to say about it on the Nectar site, once I had filtered the reviews by "classic hybrid".

Out of a total 3,522 reviews, 508 matching reviews were returned with my search criteria. It's a really mixed bag of feedback but, overall, a lot of customers would recommend.

For example, one review shared on 04/08/26 says "It has the perfect balance of softness and support, stays cool through the night, and does a great job minimizing motion transfer" whereas another review left on 05/23/25 says "I have tried the both the Hybrid Premium and the Hybrid Classic. Of which neither met my sleeping needs. Premium was way too soft and Classic is too firm."

This goes to show just how subjective mattress tension is. Opinions on firmness vary through from the one-star to five-star reviews, with some finding it perfect and others noting it may be too firm or soft depending on personal preference.

As I'm scrolling through the relevant reviews I can also see some similar experiences that I've had with the mattress. For example, a recent review left on 03/26/26 said: "I can definitely feel when my husband gets in and out of bed or shifts during the night, which was something I expected this mattress to minimize." Equally a peppering of customers also note that they have overheated on the mattress.

Generally, though, the Nectar Classic Hybrid has got some very happy customers. There's rave reviews like "We are sleeping much for better and deeper with our new Nectar Classic Hybrid" and "We love it", with high praise for relieving achy, stiff backs.

Should you buy the Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress?

Who should buy it and why?

✅ Sleepers on a restricted budget: In Nectar's own words, this mattress is a "value pick for comfort and support", and it comes in at an affordable price.

✅ Side sleepers who want some pressure relief: The medium/firm tension will be comfortable and supportive for most who sleep on their side, especially if they want some relief from achy joints.

✅ Sleepers with mobility issues: With great edge support and a mattress depth of 12 inches, there's little resistance getting in and out of bed.

Best time to buy: Nectar always has a sale, so there's never going to be a "bad" time to buy. The bigger discounts are generally around holiday sales, like Memorial Day, Labor Day and Black Friday, so if you're holding out to save big, you won't need to wait long.

Returns and exchanges: Nectar offers a market-leading 365-night sleep trial. If you find that it isn't right for you, it doesn’t work for you then you can request and exchange or return. If you return, you'll be given a full refund back to your original payment method.

Who shouldn't buy it and why?

❌ Hot sleepers looking for maximum cooling: While it has a fabric cover with cooling properties and individually-wrapped innerspring coils, I still found that I overheated (and I'm not a hot sleeper). If you sleep hot, a cooling mattress like the Glacier Apex Hybrid may be more suited.

❌ Couples who don't want to feel their partner move about: It didn't perform too well in the objective tests, and night after night, for motion isolation while bed sharing. I could feel when my husband changed sleeping positions, and when he got in and out of bed.

❌ Back and front sleepers: It's not firm enough for front and back sleepers, and there isn't enough support for sleepers in these positions either. The Saatva Classic is still the best option for most sleepers as it comes in three firmness options and has a luxury hotel feel, too.

Is it worth it?

If you're a side sleeper and on a budget then yes, the Nectar Classic Hybrid mattress is absolutely worth it. The mattress has a dreamy build quality and it provides some relief from achy joints, although I did wake up with a dead arm on occasion after sleeping on my side.

It's also well-priced. Nectar's pricing rarely changes, even for major sales events such as Memorial Day, Labor Day and Black Friday, but the upside to this steady pricing means that you can order safe in the knowledge that you're not going to miss out on an unexpected discount.

While myself and some other reviewers overheated on the mattress, and the motion isolation is good but not brilliant, it is still one of the better value mattresses that I, for one, have certainly ever tested. It isn't going to be replacing my own luxury hybrid mattress for the reasons I mention above but, as we've found, choosing a mattress is incredibly subjective so together with it's industry-leading 365-night sleep trial and lifetime warranty, it's got to be worth a try — your body and wallet may thank you for it.
