It's all change in "Hudson & Rex" series 8, which premieres on CityTV in Canada from September 22, 2025. Yes, the eponymous dog is still helping a Detective Hudson solve crimes in the Major Crimes Division of the St. John's Police Department, Newfoundland, but go-to human Charlie has been replaced by brother Mark in series 8.

Here's how to watch "Hudson & Rex" season 8 from anywhere with a VPN. Or, if you're not lucky enough to live in Canada, we also outline where to go to catch up on all 108 episodes over the 7 previous seasons.

'Hudson & Rex' season 8 streams, premiere, runtime

There are 7 seasons of "Hudson & Rex". Season 8 premieres in Canada on September 22, 2025, until November 10, 2025.
• Canada CityTV Plus (seasons 1-8)
• U.S. — UPtv via DIRECTV and YouTube TV (seasons 1-7)
• U.K. Prime Video / Sky (seasons 1-7)
• Australia SBS On Demand (seasons 1-7)
• Watch anywhere — try NordVPN risk-free

This cozy Canadian whodunit first shot onto our screens in 2019, but is actually an adaptation of Austrian-Italian hit Kommissar Rex, which ran from 1994 to 2004.

As well as being a very good boy, Rex is a highly trained German Shepherd K-9 police dog with a handy knack for sniffing out and solving crimes. For the first 7 series, he did so with Detective Charlie Hudson (John Reardon) as the pair uncovered and solved kidnappings, murders and art heists.

In season 8, however, Charlie's brother Detective Mark Hudson (Luke Roberts) will be stepping up to the plate as Rex's crime-solving partner. The early trailer suggests a slightly darker premise as Mark adapts to his new job in the St. Johns police department.

Beyond the titular Hudson and Rex, plus forensics whizz Sarah Truong (Mayko Nguyen), wise team leader Superintendent Joe Donovan (Kevin Hanchard) and IT wizard Jesse Mills (Justin Kelly), nearly as big a character in the show is the stunning Newfoundland scenery that populates nearly every scene.

Read on to see how you can watch "Hudson & Rex" season 1-7 from anywhere, and where season 8 is premiering.
