Having won the previous two editions at a cantor with what has now become his signature long range attack, can anyone beat Tadej Pogačar? Or have we reached the point where the outcome of the race is all but guaranteed if he takes to the start line?
Of course not. Anything can happen on the Tuscan white roads, punctures, crashes, the race is the very definition of chaos, and the rest of the world’s top riders aren’t here to race for second. Lining up to prey it doesn’t all go to plan for Pog are Tom Pidcock, Ben Healy, Egan Bernal, Wout van Aert and French wonderkid Paul Seixas to name but six. And then there is Pog’s own team mate, possibly the second hottest talent riding right now, Issac Del Toro. The field is STACKED.
This year’s route is slightly shorter than last year at 201km and features two fewer sectors of sterrato, cutting the over all amount of white road used from 80km to 64km on its way to arguably the grandest finish in world cycling, the Piazza del Campo in the heart of Sienna.
Make sure you tune in from the start for this one because you’ll not want to miss a minute of the action.
The day is set dry and after a period without rain so the roads will be dusty and running fast. Coverage starts from 13.00 (BST)
