As we hit the warmest months of the year, a specialist cooling mattress can really be a game changer for your sleep, and I've got the perfect contender. Ahead, I'll be letting you in on how you can buy the Elite Hybrid, now 40% off at Bear, at its lowest price of the year.

Part of my role here at Tom's Guide is testing the very best cooling mattresses online to find the ones that truly deliver on their promises, be that keeping hot sleepers' temperature at bay or providing full-body support.

After sleeping on the Bear Elite for the best part of the last year, I'm pleased to report this hybrid bed does both those things. And the better news is: in parallel with Amazon's Prime Day mattress sales, Bear has cut the Elite Hybrid mattress back to its lowest price.

Save 40% ($799.20)
Bear Elite Hybrid Mattress (twin): was $1,998 now $1,198.80 at Bear Mattress

The 4th July Bear mattress sale open to all shoppers right now knocks 35% off across the brand's mattress suite. But we've got a semi-exclusive discount code (pssst, it's TOMS40) which bags you an extra 5% off at checkout. That takes a queen size from $2,427 to $1,370.40 with unbeatable cooling tech, night-after-night comfort, a 120-night trial, limited lifetime warranty, and free shipping all included.

So, I think I've established it's a great mattress and great time to buy, but what's it actually like to sleep on? Ahead, I've gathered opinions from our wider testing panel to help you decide whether the Bear Elite Hybrid mattress is the right fit for you and your sleep needs.

What our testers like (and dislike) about this 'advanced cooling' mattress

Securing 4 stars from our panel of (picky) mattress testers, the Bear Elite Hybrid has a lot to offer.

Firstly, it's infused with Celliant fibres that suck up heat, pull it away from the body, then quickly shed it through the mattress surface. The result? A temperature neutral sleep surface free of any heat pools. My fellow mattress testers all agreed that the Bear Elite felt comfortably cool through our thermal tests, and I can vouch that it stays impressively temperature neutral even in a heat-trapping attic bedroom during summer nights (with my trusty Aecooly fan at my bedside).

In terms of support and comfort, our subjective and objective tests indicate the Bear Elite Hybrid is sturdy yet cushioning enough for side and back sleeping thanks to the combination of foams and coils. However, our front-sleeping tester, Ruth Jones, noticed a small amount of pressure in her lower back when lying prone. Hence, if you're a strict stomach sleeper, you may want to consider a firmer cooling bed like the Siena Signature Mattress.

What's more, particularly restless couples or people with limited mobility who need sturdy edges to push off from to get out of bed, may want to reconsider the Bear Elite Hybrid. Why? Our testers could feel one another moving next to each other on the bed. "If I was on the brink of sleep and the other person suddenly shifted, I'd likely wake up," Ruth noted.

Additionally, the Bear Elite Hybrid scored just 2.5 out of 5 in our edge support tests as the foot and sides of the bed collapsed in slightly more when weight was applied compared to other top-scoring mattresses like the Saatva Classic.

All in all, if you're a hot side or back sleeper with no other notable sleep issues, you're sure to sleep peacefully on the Bear Elite Hybrid Mattress — I certainly have.

On a tighter budget? Try this...

Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Pro Hybrid Mattress (twin)
Save 30% ($279.60)
Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Pro Hybrid Mattress (twin): was $932 now $652.40 at Brooklyn Bedding

The Brooklyn Bedding Copperflex range is engineered to bring sleepers cooling comfort and a luxury feel without a premium price tag. Essentially, it's not ultra-budget (like the Siena) but it offers hot sleepers great value for money; especially now Brooklyn Bedding mattress sales are taking a queen size CopperFlex Pro Hybrid mattress down to $932.40 (was $1,332) in celebration of July 4th. The GlacioTex cover truly stood out to our testers who found it immediately cool-to-touch. There's free shipping, lifetime warranty, and a 120-night trial included, too.
