This $499 organic cooling mattress is my new secret weapon for sleeping through heatwaves — and it’s over $700 off this Memorial Day

Hot summer nights are the natural enemy of quality sleep. However, I’m sleeping on the Awara Classic — an organic latex hybrid bed that costs $799 for a queen at Awara. And it's helping me sleep right through this year's sweltering summer heatwave.

With wool, bamboo and airy latex, it’s one of the coolest beds I’ve slept on. And also one of the most comfortable, competing against some of the best mattresses of the year for the money. I love the naturally breathable feel of organic mattresses, but they often cost in the region of $2,000 for a queen.

Which is why the Awara Classic is a rare find. While the price is unlikely to drop lower in the Memorial Day mattress sales, the mattress is exceptional value for money year-round — and worth snapping up before the summer as temperatures set to rise further. Here’s why.

Right now, a queen Awara Classic is $799, and you’ll get a bedding bundle that includes cotton sheets, a cooling latex pillow and a mattress protector for $199 (was $499). Plus, enjoy industry-leading perks like a forever warranty, 365-night sleep trial and free shipping and returns.

Who is the Awara Classic best for?

Standing at 10” tall, the Awara Classic competes against some of the best organic mattresses you can buy. And yet it has a simple design: a wool and rayon cover, a layer of latex and then a layer of individually wrapped coils. It has a surprisingly soft feel, despite latex usually being a firmer option than foams, but this doesn’t mean you get swallowed by the mattress.

Instead, you sleep on top of the bed, remaining aligned throughout the night (which also contributes to its cool feel). I genuinely found it comfortable in every sleeping position, even stomach sleeping. However, heavier-weight sleepers might want a slightly firmer option to ensure the bed remains supportive.

How the Awara Classic solved my hot and stuffy nights

Latex has an open structure. This means air can flow through the material easily, rather than becoming trapped and heating up beneath you.

The best hybrid mattresses are usually also good at temperature regulation because the structure of the bed allows air to flow through it, which is why the Awara is already a step ahead of even the best memory foam mattresses when it comes to cooling.

But the important feature of the Awara Classic is the cover. Made from wool and rayon derived from bamboo, you have moisture-wicking properties. This means the cover will actively wick away sweat throughout the night, keeping you cool and dry.

Despite my husband being a furnace at night, I slept so well on the Awara Classic. Often, I wake up throughout the night, tossing and turning, taking the blanket off and putting it back on because I just can’t regulate my temperature.

But on the Awara, I slept through the night and woke up without any of that stuffy, sweaty feeling I get on memory foam. The bed kept me warm when I was cold and cold when I was warm.

And considering the best cooling mattresses are usually double - or even triple - the price, the Awara’s value for money is pretty difficult to beat. I think it’s a fantastic bed to invest in before the temperatures really start skyrocketing.

An alternative for heavier-weight sleepers

Avocado Green mattress: was $1,599 now $1,359 at Avocado Mattress

The Avocado Green is a premium purchase, rather than a mid-range bed like the Awara. But heavier sleepers will feel firmer support, while still enjoying the cooling capabilities of an organic mattress. The Avocado mattress sales mean you’ll get 15% off this mattress, bringing a queen down to $2,039 (was $2,399). You’ll get a 25-year warranty, a one-year trial and 365-night sleep trial. It's more expensive than the Awara but it's still excellent value for money.
