There will, though, be one key factor missing from the game — Lionel Messi. The Argentinian icon was substituted at half time of PSG’s  Ligue 1 victory over Lille on Friday. The club has confirmed that he “has hamstring discomfort in his left leg and knee pain following a contusion,” and will not feature. However, manager Mauricio Pochettino will be able to call upon the services of Kylian Mbappe, who is available again after suffering from an ear infection.

RB Leipzig’s Spanish forward Dani Olmo appeared as a substitute in the Bundesliga draw against Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend. He should therefore be able to play at least some part in the RB Leipzig vs PSG match. That weekend result continued Leipzig's rather mixed start to the domestic season; they’ve won four matches, lost three, and drawn three.

Paris Saint Germain, meanwhile, are sitting comfortably atop Ligue 1, eight points ahead of second place Nice. Indeed, they have only dropped points on two occasions so far — drawing one game and losing another. They are then well on their way to reclaiming their domestic crown. But it's the Champions League that the fans, owners and players really want.

PSG won the reverse fixture 3-2 on the last Champions League matchday, with two goals from Messi rescuing the side when they were 1-2 down. While they caused a scare, that result ultimately means that RB Leipzig are winless in the group after three games.

Back at home, RB Leipzig will no doubt try to build on their performance of two weeks ago. However, a look at the brief history of this match will not give the German side much confidence. They have only won one of the four games these two have played against each other, losing the other three.

Here's how they line up:

RB Leipzig: Gulacsi, Simakan, Angelino, Orban, Forsberg, Adams, Nkunku, Mukiele, Laimer, Gvardiol, Silva.

PSG: Donnarumma, Hakimi, Kimpembe, Marquinhos, Danilo, Wijnaldum, Mendes, Gueye, Mbappe, Neymar, Di Maria.
