Such is his overwhelming dominance in this mountainous monument the race of the falling leaves has become the race of Tadej Pogačar in recent years. Suiting his abilities perfectly, no one has come close to challenging him for four editions now and he has made winning one of the toughest races on the calendar look easy.
It’s a wonder the best still show up to try and beat him but they do, because of course there is always the hope he could have a bad day, or a mechanical, or get hit by an asteroid.
This year the start list is no less stacked and if you removed one rider you’d say the win could go to any one of the stars who line up. Champions like Tom Pidcock, Giulio Ciccone, Richard Carapaz and the mighty Remco Evenepoel are all here. As is the hot new French sensation, the 19 year old Paul Seixas but will they all be reduced to also rans as the G.O.A.T. leaves them for dead and rides of solo?
Starting in Como this year’s route covers 238 punishing kilometres and includes classic climbs like the Madonna del Ghisallo, Roncola, Berbenno, Zambla Alta, and the Passo di Ganda before finishing in Bergamo after gaining a total of 4,400 meters of elevation.
The riders are in for wall to wall sunshine and highs of 22 degrees, prefect racing conditions.. Here’s how to watch Il Lombardia live streams online, from anywhere.
