Surfshark is well-known for offering great value – so much so that it sits at the top of our list of the best cheap VPNs. That hasn't stopped it from getting involved with a Black Friday VPN deal of its own, though.

Clearly, Surfshark thinks it's already charging a fair amount – at least when it comes to its Surfshark Starter plan. Starter hasn't been discounted and still sits at a very reasonable $1.99 per month. What has been discounted, though, is Surfshark One, the middle tier subscription.

With One, you get everything offered on the Starter plan – namely a capable VPN with some very useful extra features – plus Surfshark's own antivirus tool. This antivirus is backed by security stalwart Avira, and has been verified as very effective.

Surfshark excels when it comes to privacy and streaming, and the addition of antivirus to its One plan is the icing on the cake. The apps are very simple to use, but be aware that they don't allow for much tinkering – they're very much set and forget.

You get:

🔒 Unlimited installs and data
🦠 Avira-backed antivirus
📺 Excellent streaming unblocking
❌ Apps may be too simplistic for advanced users

At $2.19 per month over the course of 27 months, Surfshark One costs just $6 more than Surfshark's basic plan – excellent value considering dedicated antivirus software can cost more than that every month. There's a 30-day refund period so you can make sure it works well for you, and Surfshark Starter is also available for $1.99 per month if you don't need antivirus.

What's so good about Surfshark?

Surfshark has always aimed to make privacy accessible for all, and I've found that its apps – on all devices – are very simple to use. There are plenty of features available, including the useful Alternative ID, but almost all of them are pre-configured to make using them simple.

That's perfect if you're new to VPNs, or just want a simple life. However, if you're a bit of a techy and prefer getting hands-on with your VPN's settings, it might be worth considering Private Internet Access or Proton VPN. These providers aren't quite as accessible, but offer more granularity when it comes to encryption and advanced settings.

Beyond that, Surfshark has been reliable for unblocking global streaming sites for a long time. In my latest review, it was successful at accessing almost every streaming site I used it with – although unfortunately I did have some issues when streaming Amazon Prime Video. If that's a must for you, try NordVPN, which is more expensive, but performed a clean sweep.

Overall, Surfshark is my top pick for those looking to balance value, simplicity, and reliable privacy. It's also my top VPN bargain this Black Friday. If you need a VPN and antivirus, there's no better deal right now.
