The Toon Army has long wished to see the back of deeply unpopular owner Mike Ashley, and last week Geordie Christmas came early as the club was officially taken over by a Saudi Arabian-backed consortium. The takeover has sparked plenty of controversy, but the majority of Newcastle United fans are now very excited about the future.

Of course, whatever changes new ownership may bring can wait, as right now the team are embroiled in a relegation battle and that must take priority. Unpopular manager Steve Bruce could be relieved of his duties before the weekend, with assistant coach Graham Jones likely to take over while the new owners scout out a permanent replacement.

Newcastle current sit 19th, after failing to win any of their opening seven games. Last time out they were beaten away at Wolves, putting in another abysmal performance from a side that is no stranger to them in recent weeks.

The out-of-form team will be boosted by the return of striker Callum Wilson for this game. Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is also fit again, though he's only on the bench. Jamaal Lascelles, however, is back in the starting line up.

Tottenham Hotspur started the season well, but have stumbled recently — though a victory over Aston Villa during the last game week did begin to heal the scars left by the side's capitulation against arch-rivals Arsenal last month.

New manager Nuno Santo has already come under fire from the Spurs fans, so he'll be desperate to put together a string of positive results to keep them on side. A match against a poor Newcastle side is exactly the sort of fixture he'd have been hoping for next.

The whole city of Newcastle has been buzzing since the takeover announcement, but Spurs know they have the quality to spoil the electric atmosphere on Sunday. Newcastle will need to be at their best if they want to keep the party mood running into next week.

Here's how they line up:

Newcastle United: Darlow, Manquillo, Lascelles, Clark, Ritchie, Hayden, Saint-Maximin, Willock, Longstaff, Joelinton, Wilson.

Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris, Emerson, Romero, Dier, Reguilon, Hojbjerg, Skipp, Lucas Moura, Ndombele, Son, Kane.
