Another year, another Madden game. Madden NFL 21 is officially slated to arrive this summer, hitting current-gen and next-gen consoles as well as PCs and even Google Stadia. The game will be the first NFL title to grace the PS5 and Xbox Series X, and depending on how the current global crisis shakes out, might be the only pigskin fix we get this year.
Here's everything you need to know about Madden NFL 21, including the game's cover athlete, release date, platforms, price and more.
Madden 21 release date
Madden NFL 21 is releasing on August 28 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. It's also slated to hit Google Stadia this winter, and will arrive for PS5 and Xbox Series X before the end of the year.
Madden NFL 21 is part of EA's 'Dual Entitlement' program, meaning those who buy the Xbox One or PS4 version will be able to upgrade to the Xbox Series X and PS5 edition at no extra cost.
Madden NFL 21 price
The new Madden game will retail for $59 on most platforms. However, you can also spring for the $99 MVP Edition, which lets you play the game three days early and includes 12 Madden Ultimate Team Gold Team Fantasy Pack, 1 large Quicksell Training Pack, an MCS Ultimate Champion Pack, a Lamar Jackson Elite item and an exclusive Madden NFL 21 theme for PlayStation owners.
Madden 21 cover athlete
The cover star of Madden NFL 21 is Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens quarterback and MVP of the 2019-2020 NFL season. Given Patrick Mahomes' success after starring on the cover last year, perhaps the Madden curse is broken.
Madden 21 trailer
The Madden 21 official reveal trailer shows off some impressively lifelike gameplay, and highlights new features such as the Skill Stick ball-carrier system and deeper pass rush controls.
It goes without saying that Madden 21 looks more realistic than any installment before it. One of the taglines of the game is "feel next level," so we have a feeling it'll take advantage of next-gen features such as the PS5 DualSense controller to make running, passing and tackling to feel more immersive than ever.
Madden 21 features
New Madden 21 features include richer ball-carrier mechanics, as well as new defensive line and pass rush moves that will make playing frontline defense more "responsive and fun." The game also introduces Realistic Open-Field Tackling for finer control over defensive stops, and players will also be able to control their own celebrations after big plays.
There's also a new Face of the Franchise: Rise to Fame mode, which is a "playable documentary career campaign" that follows your custom character's journey from high school and college quarterback to the bright lights of the NFL.
