Shopping online for the best mattress has never been easier — and with a lot of brick-and-mortar stores closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, online may be the only place you can buy a mattress these days.

Online mattress shopping may have gone mainstream, but if you've never done it before, it can be a little intimidating to try and choose the best mattress in a box without seeing it in person, and then shelling out a lot of money for a large, rolled-up mattress delivered to your front door that’s supposed to be the perfect solution to your sleep needs.

Don't fret that you won't be able to lay down on a mattress before you buy it online. Nearly every direct-to-consumer online mattress company has solid trial periods and return policies so your mattress decision doesn’t have to be set in stone. As for picking the right mattress dealer, all it takes is a little due diligence, just like any purchase.

If you’re wondering where to get started with buying an online mattress, check out our guide to the top bed-in-a-box companies and what you can expect from each one.
