Saatva RX vs The WinkBed: Materials and design
- Saatva boasts handles, an organic cotton cover, and protection from mildew, mold, and bacteria
- The WinkBed’s pillowtop has a different thickness or feel depending on which of the four firmness levels buyers choose
- Both models have gel-infused memory foam, support foams, and reinforced coils along the edges for better edge support
The Saatva RX and The WinkBed are similar in some ways in that the Saatva RX is a hybrid innerspring mattress that’s 15 inches tall, and The WinkBed is a hybrid mattress, though it is only 13.5 inches tall.
The WinkBed comes in four different firmness options. All but the plus option come with a Euro-pillow top. The luxury firm, firm, or plus options are better suited to people with back pain.
The Saatva RX is only sold in a single firmness option that our reviewers rated as medium firm/firm. The mattress’ seven layers feature a breathable, sweat-wicking organic cotton cover, gel-infused memory foam, and high-density foam for support and comfort.
A one-inch micro-coil layer is followed by a support core with five zones for pressure relief. Above the support base is a coil layer with reinforced coils along the edges.
Rather than organic cotton, The WinkBed’s cover is made with moisture-wicking Tencel. A gel foam layer and support layer is followed by a coil layer with reinforced edges.
Both mattresses use CertiPUR-US certified foams which ensure the mattresses have low VOCs and are free of toxic chemicals. However, the Saatva RX outclasses The Winkbed here with an organic cotton cover, a natural flame barrier, and Guardin antimicrobial treatment to prevent mildew, bacteria, or mold from forming.
The WinkBed lacks such materials, as well as handles, which makes moving it more difficult than a Saatva RX.
Saatva RX vs The WinkBed: Comfort & support
- The RX is medium-firm to firm (rated a 7.5-8 out of 10 on the firmness scale)
- The WinkBed has four firmness options (4.5-8 out of 10)
- Both offer excellent support and pressure relief
The Saatva RX is the best mattress for chronic back pain. It comes in one firmness option, and while Saatva describes it as ‘Supportive Plush” or 3-4 out of 10 on the firmness scale, we disagree. In fact, we rate it as 7.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
Our testers appreciate the lack of sinking, the support along the hips, and the even distribution of their weight. It’s an ideal mattress that offers both support and a contouring surface for a comfy night's sleep, particularly on your back or stomach.
The WinkBed is more inclusive of a diverse range of sleepers due to the fact that you can choose between four firmness options, but the softer versions won't suit people with back pain.
Combo sleepers can enjoy the luxury firm option (6.5 out of 10), while back and stomach sleepers are better suited to the firm option (7.5 out of 10). The plus version is for those who are over 250lbs in need of a mattress with back support.
Our reviewers enjoyed the luxury firm option, noting that their spine was supported to prevent back pain and provide pressure relief to other parts of their bodies like their knees, hips and shoulders.
How to choose between them
Consider the Saatva RX if...
- ✅ You're a strict back (or stomach) sleeper: The Saatva RX is better designed for back sleepers, although stomach sleepers will find their hips supported and enjoy some back pain relief too.
- ✅ You prefer a firm feel: Despite the fact that Saatva labels this mattress as having a “supportive plush” firmness, our reviewers were very clear – the Saatva RX is a 7.5 or 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale. Don’t expect to sink into this mattress.
- ✅ You sleep warm or hot: While the Saatva RX isn’t a cooling mattress, it’s hybrid innerspring design and gel-infused memory foam layers ensure that your temperature will be regulated throughout the night.
Consider The WinkBed if...
- ✅ You’re a combo sleeper: The WinkBed offers four firmness options, and while you wouldn’t want to order the soft option for back pain relief, the luxury firm option is ideal for combination sleepers. Even the firm and plus option suit both back and stomach sleepers.
- ✅ You weigh over 250lbs: The WinkBed is one of the select few mattresses available to heavier people. Their Plus version is designed for sleepers that weigh over 250 lbs., offering them a mattress with long term durability and back support.
- ✅ You don't sleep alone: The WinkBed’s motion isolation scored high during our tests, which means you’re less likely to feel a partner get in and out of bed at night or toss in their sleep. Reinforced edges also allow two people to sleep further away for better comfort without slipping off the mattress.
