We're almost halfway through the year, and if your internet bill is straining your wallet, let me introduce you to some budget-friendly options.
As Tom's Guide's resident NBN aficionado, I examine monthly data to find the best NBN deals for most types of Aussie households. My picks depend on a few key factors: speed tiers, connection types, and attractive pricing, particularly introductory offers and low monthly fees. I also cross-check user reviews, typical evening speed (TES) claims, and, of course, quarterly ACCC broadband data reports.
To help you in your search, I've selected three outstanding internet plans for April 2026, ranging from NBN 100 to NBN 1000. These deals stand out IMO, as two include extended 12-month introductory discounts — meaning you'll lock in the low fee until next April, before any price increase. That certainly gets my tick of approval.
With all of that in mind, here are my NBN recommendations for April 2026.
Best NBN plans in April 2026
Dodo | NBN 100 | AU$72.99p/m (for 12 months, then AU$92.99p/m)
Right now, Dodo has an incredibly cheap NBN 100 plan, slashing a massive AU$240 off the first year with this low introductory rate of AU$72.99p/m.
Even once the price increases, you'll still spend less than the average NBN 100 cost, currently AU$94.88p/m. That said, if you have an FTTP or HFC connection type at home, you may want to consider Dodo's NBN 500 plan, as it costs the same as this one, but provides 5x more speed. You can check it out in our best NBN 500 deals.
Total minimum cost: AU$72.99 | Total first year cost: AU$875.88 | Yearly cost after discount: AU$1,115.88
Kogan Internet | NBN 500 | AU$71.90p/m (for 12 months, then AU$85.90p/m ongoing)
Kogan currently offers the cheapest NBN 500 plan, slashing a massive AU$168 off the first 12 months with this low introductory rate of AU$71.90p/m, before the price increases to AU$85.90p/m next April.
Clocking in theoretical speeds of 500Mbps downloads and 48Mbps uploads, you and your family (and perhaps, the next-door neighbours) will be set with high, lag-free speeds during the busy evening hours.
Total minimum cost: AU$71.90 | Total first year cost: AU$862.80 | Total yearly cost: AU$1,030.80
SpinTel | NBN 1000 | AU$89p/m (for 6 months, then AU$99.95p/m)
Clocking in a massive 850Mbps over the busy evening hours, SpinTel's latest speed bump makes it the fastest currently on offer. Pair that with the tasty intro offer that knocks AU$65.70 off the first 6 months, and this deal is seriously hard to pass up.
Sure, you'll need to either BYO modem or pay an extra AU$139.95 upfront, but SpinTel is your top option for a fuss-free, no-frills ultrafast plan.
Total minimum cost: AU$89 | Total first year cost: AU$1,133.70 | Yearly cost after discount: AU$1,199.40
