3 new to Paramount+ shows you should binge-watch this weekend (Jan. 16-18)
3 recent Paramount+ releases to add to your watchlist
Paramount+ is regularly adding new shows. Yes, this streaming service is probably best known for a deep library of movies and a plethora of live sports. But it's constantly adding new series to watch, including from Paramount's networks like CBS, coproductions with international studios and quite a few Paramount+ original series.
So if you're looking for your next weekend binge-watch, Paramount+ has you covered. I've looked through the list of everything new to Paramount+ in January 2026, and I've found three shows in particular worth adding to your watchlist this weekend. One of them is "Landman," which has its season 2 finale this Sunday (Jan. 18). But there's also a fresh new Star Trek series checking out and a British thriller that debuted earlier this month and you can now stream it in full.
So without further ado, here are the three new to Paramount+ shows that you should be binge-watching this weekend.
'Landman' season 2
"Landman" stars Billy Bob Thornton as Texas landman Tommy Norris. If something goes wrong for his (now deceased) friend Monty's (Jon Hamm) oil company, Tommy is the guy who is sent in to fix it. But as complicated as the work can be, Tommy's home life is filled with plenty of drama. His ex-wife Angela (Ali Larter) has come back to him and his daughter Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) can be a handful. Still, it's his son Cooper (Jacob Lofland) who probably gives Tommy the biggest headache, because he's decided to get into the oil game, which is the last thing Tommy wants.
Season 1 was a bit of a mixed bag, but ended on a high note with a great season finale. The "Landman" season 2 premiere was essentially more of the same, but last week's episode is considered a low point for many fans of the show, even those who like it despite its flaws. Start watching all 19 current episodes now, and you'll be caught up just in time for the season 2 finale this Sunday.

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy'
Star Trek has been a hit-or-miss franchise for Paramount. Whether it's a new movie or a new series, oftentimes people either love the new thing or are bitterly disappointed by it. That seems to be the case with "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy" as well. It's currently rated 85% fresh by critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but scored a mere 35% from audiences. So, try to go in with an open mind.

The 12th Star Trek series to date, this show breaks new ground for the beloved franchise. It's set in the 32nd century, a future far from most of Star Trek shows or movies In this future, Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets are recovering from a cataclysmic event (depicted in "Star Trek: Discovery"), and the show follows Starfleet's first new class of cadets in over a century as they come of age and train to be officers. They learn aboard the USS Athena in San Francisco, but they can still be deployed into space with the rest of the fleet

'Girl Taken'
This British thriller is adapted from the 2016 novel Baby Doll by Hollie Overton. "Girl Taken" stars Tallulah Evans as Lily Riser, a teenage girl hoping to enjoy her summer break with her boyfriend, Wes (Levi Brown), while her twin sister, Abby (Delphi Evans) gets ready to go to university. But their lives, and everyone's around them, are upended when Lily is suddenly abducted on a solo walk home after an argument with Abby.
But it's no mystery to the viewer who has taken Lily. That's not the purpose of this show. We learn early on that she's been abducted by her English teacher, Rick (Alfie Allen) and he manages to keep her hidden for years, even "aiding" in the search for Lily while he abuses her in captivity. Instead, the purpose of this show is to get into the minds of its characters, whether the depraved Rick, the traumatized Lily or the distraught friends and family that thought she was gone forever. This show is a six-part miniseries, so feel free to binge in its entirety straight away.
