Finding something new to watch over the weekend should be easy, but I can easily lose an hour just scrolling before giving up. With so many options, Netflix keeps dropping new series so fast that the best ones can slip through the cracks. If your watchlist needs a solid refresh, a few recent additions are genuinely worth your time.
This week brings a gripping new horror series set in the lead-up to a wedding, a compelling crime drama based on a bestselling mystery novel, and the third season of a high school teen drama. To help narrow it down, here are three shows worth adding to your watchlist this weekend.
‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’
Horror fans are in for a treat, as the new series “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen” revolves entirely around that looming threat. It’s a stylish, tense, and atmospheric take on horror that holds its own against Netflix’s top offerings. It turns the gravity of a lifelong commitment into a suspense-filled, dread-laden horror. Of course, it’s not for the faint of heart, but this is exactly the kind of series Netflix built for binge-watching.
Article continues belowRachel Harkin (Camila Morrone) travels with her fiancé, Nicky Cunningham (Adam DiMarco), to his family’s remote estate in the days leading up to their wedding, expecting an intimate celebration. Instead, Rachel is unsettled by strange encounters, eerie traditions, and increasingly hostile behaviour from those around her. With time running out, she becomes convinced that something terrible will happen before she can walk down the aisle.

‘Detective Hole’
This week, Netflix is the spot for Nordic noir fans, since the streaming service has dropped the brand new nine-part series “Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole.” Described on Tudum as “a gripping serial killer mystery” featuring Nesbø’s “legendary Norwegian anti-hero,” “Detective Hole” stars Tobias Santelmaan as the titular detective in an adaptation of the fifth book in the series. Even better, this mystery series currently holds a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Detective Hole” follows troubled Oslo homicide detective Harry Hole (Santelmaan), a brilliant but conflicted investigator drawn into a complex case involving a serial killer terrorising the city. The story tracks Hole’s efforts to piece together ritualistic murders while confronting his own personal demons and contending with the murky boundaries of policing. He’s not only racing to catch the killer but also entangled with his corrupt colleague Tom Waaler (Joel Kinnaman), a fellow police officer whose actions deepen the stakes.

‘Heartbreak High’
“Heartbreak High” has returned with its third and final season this week. This Australian teen drama series reimagines the 1990s show of the same name for a modern generation. It follows a group of students and teachers at the fictional Hartley High in Sydney, focusing on their lives as they deal with the ups and downs of secondary school, friendships, and relationships. Its style and tone often draw comparisons with other popular teen series like “Sex Education” and “Never Have I Ever.”
In the third and final year at Hartley High, Amerie (Ayesha Madon) and her classmates face their last stretch before graduation as school life spirals into chaos. A revenge prank goes horribly wrong, forcing Amerie, her friends and fellow students to cover up what happened or risk serious consequences. Throughout the term, the gang juggles exams, muck‑up day antics and the looming reality of life after school while trying to stay afloat amid drama and secrets that refuse to stay buried.

She heads to the cinema every week as a tradition, no matter what’s showing. For her, movies aren’t just entertainment — they’re a ritual, a comfort, and a constant source of inspiration. When she’s not at her desk or at the cinema, you’ll probably find her deep into a horror video game on her PC.
