We’re now in the second week of May, can you believe it? Summer will be here before we know it. Time is moving way too fast, and so are the constant updates to streaming libraries. Netflix, still leading the pack, adds new originals every week, and it’s easy to miss some great series and movies. So I’ve rounded up three new Netflix shows worth watching this weekend.

The biggest new addition is “Lord of the Flies,” a survival drama based on William Golding’s classic novel. This version expands the story into a limited series format, giving more time to explore individual characters. There’s also the second season of a gripping mystery thriller, and a British crime drama starring Steve Coogan, which focuses on the psychological toll of undercover work.

Currently holding strong in Netflix’s top 10 is “Lord of the Flies,” a tense survival drama marking the fourth screen adaptation of the classic novel. The series was first released in the U.K. back in February and has now finally landed on Netflix for US audiences, making it a strong pick if you’re looking for a gripping watch. Plus, it’s only four episodes long, each around an hour (perfect length for binge-watchers). Be warned, though, it can get deeply unsettling and psychologically intense.

“Lord of the Flies” follows a group of British schoolboys who survive a plane crash and find themselves stranded on a remote tropical island with no adults. Initially, they attempt to organize themselves and establish order, electing Ralph (Winston Sawyers) as a leader with support from Piggy (David McKenna), who tries to maintain structure and safety. Meanwhile, Jack (Lox Pratt) grows increasingly focused on hunting and forms a rival group. However, the boys soon split into factions and struggle to survive in an increasingly unstable environment.

‘The Chestnut Man’

After a five-year hiatus, the Danish Nordic-noir sensation has returned. The second season, officially titled “The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek” is now streaming on Netflix. While the first season used the “Chestnut Man” figurines as a calling card, this season replaces that specific motif with a twisted version of childhood nursery rhymes and “Hide and Seek” games. If you enjoyed the slow-burn, atmospheric mystery of the first season, this one is designed to be a direct spiritual successor.

“The Chestnut Man” season 2 continues the story of detectives Naia Thulin (Danica Ćurčić) and Mark Hess (Mikkel Boe Folsgaard) as they reunite in Copenhagen to investigate a new series of disturbing crimes. A woman is reported missing, and her case quickly escalates when she is found murdered, with evidence linking the crime to an earlier unsolved killing. The detectives uncover a stalker who has been monitoring victims and communicating through messages and nursery rhyme-style clues.

Lastly, we have a British crime thriller, which is a dramatization of a remarkable true story from the early 1990s. At the time, British Customs was struggling to stop heroin smuggling, so they made a bold decision: sending ordinary, untrained staff undercover into some of the UK’s most dangerous drug gangs. In intelligence circles, a “Legend” is the fabricated life story and background created for an undercover operative. The series is based on the 2022 book by Guy Stanton, a real-life Legend who spent more than a decade living a double life.

“Legends” centers around a group of ordinary British Customs officers in the early 1990s who are pulled into a covert government operation to infiltrate major drug gangs operating across the UK. With the heroin crisis escalating, the team is trained and given entirely new identities to work undercover in dangerous criminal networks. Led by experienced operative Don Clarke (Steve Coogan), the group includes agents sent into different regions, including Liverpool and London, where they must build trust inside the underworld while maintaining their false lives.
