Netflix's newest high-octane original is "Man on Fire," a fresh adaptation of the A.J. Quinnell novel that already inspired a 2004 movie fronted by Denzel Washington (it'll appear in our Denzel Watchathon at some point). In Netflix's new seven-part series, we meet John Creasy (played by "Wonder Man" star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), a Special Forces soldier battling his demons who is keen to make a fresh start... but he finds himself at the heart of a new fight and working to protect a teen girl on the streets of Rio de Janeiro.

This explosive series might not have landed the strongest reviews, but it's remained one of the streamer's top watches ever since it landed on Netflix on Thursday, April 30, and seeing as the show's only seven episodes long, if you're a fan, there's a strong chance you've probably already binge-watched the entire thing.

5 action-packed shows to stream after 'Man on Fire'

'Black Doves'

Let's kick things off with "Black Doves," a brilliant British spy thriller that's set at Christmastime. It introduces us to Helen (Keira Knightley), a spy who works for a shadowy organization (the Black Doves).

Helen's been posing as a dedicated wife to a British politician and passing on all his secrets to the Black Doves, but the show's set in motion when Helen's secret lover Jason (Andrew Koji) is assassinated. Sensing that could be in the crosshairs, Helen's boss, Reed (Sarah Lancashire), calls in Helen's old pal, a hitman called Sam (Ben Whishaw), to protect her. Helen sets out to find out why Jason had to die, and together, she and Sam investigate a conspiracy with ties to London's underworld and a looming geopolitical crisis.

'The Night Agent'

Here's another Netflix pick, and it's one you've probably heard of, as the first season was among the most popular shows on Netflix (until it was dethroned by the mystery thriller "His & Hers" earlier in the year).

This is "The Night Agent," an action thriller show about FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), who finds himself pulled into the fray one fateful night. He works in the White House basement and is charged with monitoring an emergency line that supposedly never rings — until it does. He answers a call from a civilian whose aunt and uncle have just been assassinated, and that call sends them both running for their lives and setting off a chain of events that leads up to the Oval Office — and that's just what happens in season 1.

'The Night Manager'

Not to be confused with my previous pick, "The Night Manager" is a great choice for would-be viewers. A decade ago, AMC and the BBC teamed up for a lauded adaptation of John le Carré's novel of the same name, with Tom Hiddleston taking on the role of British soldier/hotel night porter, Jonathan Pine, who found himself going undercover as a criminal and trying to infiltrate the inner circle of a dangerous international arms dealer (played by "House" star, Hugh Laurie).

Earlier this year, "The Night Manager" finally made its comeback for the first of two further chapters, and it makes for seriously gripping television. Both seasons can be found on Prime Video, and they're absolutely worth watching.

Now feels like the perfect opportunity to dive back into "The Punisher," seeing as Frank Castle's (Jon Bernthal) new Disney+ special, "The Punisher: One Last Kill," is dropping in just a couple of days and he's due to appear in the next big-screen Marvel movie, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day."

"The Punisher," if you're not caught up, comes from Marvel's Netflix TV era. In this brutal action series, after exacting revenge on the people responsible for the deaths of his family, antihero Frank Castle stumbles upon a conspiracy that runs much deeper than New York City's criminal underworld. With the help of his former pal Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) and ex-NSA analyst Micro ("Fantastic Four" star Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Frank sets out to uncover the truth.

'The Terminal List'

I'll round out the list with a final Prime Video pick that might work for "Man on Fire" fans: David DiGillio's "The Terminal List." This action thriller revolves around a Navy SEAL Lieutenant Commander James Reece (Chris Pratt). Reece finds himself turning to vengeance after his entire platoon is ambushed and killed during a high-stakes covert mission.

He returns home with conflicting memories of the event, and questions about his own culpability... but decides to use the lessons he's learned from nearly two decades of warfare to hunt down the people responsible.
