Bad news for fans hoping to get Jupiter's Legacy season 2 — Jupiter's Legacy was cancelled by Netflix.

Based on the Mark Millar comic book of the same name, Jupiter's Legacy follows a family of superheroes that is looking to its second generation to continue its legacy. Millar's previous works that have been adapted for the big screen include Kick-Ass and Kingsman: The Secret Service, as well as his stint at Marvel and DC which saw Old Man Logan and Captain America: Civil War which have both gotten their own movies.

Jupiter's Legacy dropped on Netflix in May to mixed reviews, earning a paltry 38% Rotten Tomatoes rating from critics. Its audience score is a more respectable 72% and the show seemed popular with Netflix users, ranking in the Netflix Top 10 for several weeks. However, the show also expensive t make (it reportedly cost $200 million for season 1). And it seems that Netflix decided the viewership wasn't worth the high price tag.

Netflix isn't completely abandoning the Jupiter's Legacy universe, though, as the streamer has ordered an anime spinoff series titled Supercrooks.

Jupiter's Legacy season 2: What the plot might have been

When it comes to the story, readers who are already familiar with the source material will have a handle on where Jupiter's Legacy was going.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Millar teased what a second season could've been about.

"We know where we're going. I mean the books are a good template. You know, the books are all sitting there for us so... we have a very rough plan, but we know it all depends on hopefully, not to get too cocky, that the audience responds the way we think they will, but we feel good about it.

"Like we feel as if people are going to like this; the response so far has been amazing. So we really feel this has got a lot of likes, I think. So, yeah, we do. I mean, we talk privately all the time about what we'd like to do but nothing can be formal until we get our numbers."

Season 2 probably would've shifted the focus onto the kids after already delving into the origins of the Union of Justice. The show would've continued exploring Sheldon and Walter's power struggle and seen the Union getting a new leader if Walter got his way.
