- "Lanterns": Aug. 16, 2026
- "Clayface": Oct. 23, 2026
- "Man of Tomorrow": July 9, 2027

- "Dynamic Duo": June 30, 2028
This bold new era began in earnest with "Creature Commandos" season 1, and that animated HBO Max series earned high praise from critics (and earned a second season renewal, to boot).
Then, things really took flight over the summer of 2025, when David Corenswet stepped into the Man of Steel suit for DC Studios' new "Superman" movie. Overstuffed but utterly charming, it won countless moviegoers over and raked in a fair amount at the box office, too. But Gunn and Safran didn't stop there. "Peacemaker" season 2 followed that film, which featured a brief "Superman" cameo from John Cena as the helmeted antihero.
The fun isn't stopping there, though. The announcement of the rebooted DCU in 2023 came with the promise of tons of new releases, and that makes keeping tabs on everything that's potentially in development almost as challenging as keeping up with everything coming to the MCU. "We’ve greenlit five theatrical films, made three live-action series, and are producing five animated series,” said Safran in a February 2025 press conference (h/t The Hollywood Reporter).
The plan is reportedly to produce two live-action movies and an animated movie each year for the big screen, while also producing two live-action and two animated series for HBO Max annually. There are also projects set outside the main DC Universe continuity, like the long-awaited sequel to 2022's "The Batman". "The Batman II" is now part of the DC Elseworlds brand of movies and shows, rather than the DC Universe proper.
We'll be keeping up to speed with each and every project on the DCU's slate going forward, so you always know what to look forward to. Here's every upcoming DC Universe movie and TV show (that we know of), what we've heard about each project, including upcoming DC Elseworlds titles.
Upcoming DC Universe movie release dates
'Supergirl' (June 2026)
Release date: June 26, 2026
Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.
After briefly appearing to retrieve Krypto from her cousin at the end of "Superman," all eyes are now on Milly Alcock's "Supergirl" movie as the next big DC Universe project, helmed by Craig Gillespie. It was previously known as "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow," and is based on the 2021 eight-issue comic book miniseries of that name, penned by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. It follows Kara Zor-el, aka Supergirl, as she celebrates her 23rd birthday by getting drunk with her dog, Krypto, and joining a bloody quest for vengeance.
Other than Alcock as Kara Zor-El, we know "Supergirl" will also feature Jason Momoa as DC's Lobo, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, and Matthias Schoenaerts as the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills. David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham will also appear as Kara's parents, and Seth Rogen is rumored to voice an alien who runs a space bus (h/t Daniel Richtman on X [Twitter]).
We got our first trailer on Dec. 11, 2025, with a second trailer coming in March 2026. We have a full breakdown of the "Supergirl" teaser trailer if you want to know more. Additional footage was shown behind closed doors, showing an extended fight on a space bus, but nobody will confirm if Rogen voiced the bus driver (h/t The Wrap [via X [Twitter]])
'Clayface' (Oct 2026)
Release date: Oct. 23, 2026
"Clayface" is due to follow "Supergirl" in October 2026, and it sounds like it'll be a very different experience altogether. Helmed by "Speak No Evil" director James Watkins, the movie has been billed as "a body horror film, and will star Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries as the titular shapeshifting villain (via THR). In the film, Matt Hagen (Clayface) is an actor whose face becomes disfigured, so he turns to a scientist, Dr. Caitlin Bates (Naomi Ackie), who transforms Hagen's body into clay.
Co-star Max Minghella, who plays Bates' Gotham City PD boyfriend, has confirmed the movie will dive headfirst into the horror elements. "I think I can say safely it's going there," he told Collider in a September 2025 interview.
At CinemaCon 2026, DC showed off a trailer to those in attendance (since released on YouTube), and it does lean into the horror vibes. In the trailer, Matt is sitting in a hospital bed with a bandaged, bloodied face after a brutal attack. He has mysterious chemicals pumped into him, and his face changes repeatedly. Then, at the end of the trailer, he wipes away his entire face.
If you want more details, there have already been set photos leaked that reveal a potentially major spoiler (h/t DCU Prime TV on X [Twitter]) and disclose that Clayface might not be the only villain to make an appearance in this movie (h/t @whitewidow616 on X [Twitter]).
'Man of Tomorrow' (July 2027)
Rehearsal. #Superman pic.twitter.com/wG9wZR4CNUApril 11, 2026
Release date: July 9, 2027
In early September 2025, James Gunn revealed the next Superman movie: "Man of Tomorrow." But it's not a direct sequel to the 2025 superhero flick. "Superman has a major role," Gunn told fans on Threads, before clarifying, "It's not 'Superman 2'."
Since that initial announcement, we've learned more details. Gunn elaborated just days later that "Man of Tomorrow" will be a live-action team-up movie with David Corenswet's Superman and Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor having to band together. Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl) and Maria Gabriella de Faria (The Engineer) are all returning from "Superman." Aaron Pierre will arrive on the big screen in this movie, portraying the Green Lantern John Stewart, following his DCU debut as Stewart in the HBO show "Lanterns" in 2026 (h/t The Hollywood Reporter).
But that's not the biggest news about "Man of Tomorrow" we've seen so far. The big bad for this film is officially Braniac, and Lars Eidinger will play the iconic supervillain (h/t Deadline). This movie will also debut Maxima, with Adria Arjona reportedly landing the role (h/t Deadline).
James Gunn revealed a first look at filming on April 11 via X (Twitter) and other social media platforms. Since then, he's also revealed on Threads that Matthew Lillard will be joining the cast.
'The Brave and the Bold' (TBA)
Release date: TBA
"The Brave and the Bold" is currently the DC Universe's first Batman project, as Matt Reeves' "The Batman" has been relegated to the DC Elseworlds continuity. This movie would be centered around Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, and his son Damian Wayne, who is one of several Robins in the DC comics canon.
As far as we know, "The Flash" director Andy Muschietti is still attached to direct the movie, though he seems uninvolved in the writing process. “The intention is yes, but we can’t talk about it,” Barbara Muschetti told Variety when asked if "The Brave and the Bold" was still happening. "We have to wait a few, a couple of months to start talking about it,” Andy chimed in.
As of January 2026, DC films veteran writer Christina Hodson was attached as the screenwriter for the movie (h/t The InSneider). But that might be our last update on the film for the year. James Gunn said on Threads that he doesn't want to talk anything “Batsphere" until after "The Batman Part II" is done.
'Swamp Thing' (TBA)
Release date: TBA
This project was initially announced as being led by "A Complete Unknown" and "Logan" director James Mangold, though precious little about the new "Swamp Thing" movie has been revealed since. “We talk about it occasionally,” Gunn said when talking about "Swamp Thing" to industry press in February 2025 (h/t The Hollywood Reporter).
Seeing as we learned James Mangold was attached to direct a "Star Wars" movie at Star Wars Celebration 2023, who knows whether he still has time for "Swamp Thing" and another blockbuster. "The truth is," Mangold told Collider in 2023. "I'm writing both right now, and who knows what's going to happen and what's gonna blossom first or second?"
Untitled 'Wonder Woman' film (TBA)
Release date: TBA
"Supergirl" writer Ana Nogueira is also penning a Wonder Woman film, and James Gunn has declared the Amazonian heroine a top priority for the DCU (h/t GamesRadar). "I asked Ana to move to WW to finish that first [instead of a Teen Titans project] and she did," Gunn revealed on Threads. Beyond these small details, though, the future of Wonder Woman is as hidden from us as the location of Themyscira.
Untitled 'Teen Titans' film (TBA)
Release date: TBA
A new live-action "Teen Titans" movie was first added to the DC Universe plan in 2024, though we know very little about the project at present. “It was something that Ana [Nogueira] was really impassioned about, and she turned over an amazing script for us,” James Gunn told Variety in February 2025. “She’s fiddling with that now, but it’s definitely not a finished script.” It's since been revealed that she's instead been prioritizing a Wonder Woman script for Gunn, instead of a Teen Titans movie.
Untitled Bane and Deathstroke film
Release date: TBA
Gunn and Safran have confirmed that there is “something kind of like” a Bane and Deathstroke script being written by "Moon Knight" writer Matthew Orton (h/t Variety). But beyond that, we know nothing else.
'Sgt. Rock' (TBA)
Release date: TBA
When "Sgt. Rock" was first teased, it was "Challengers" director Luca Guadagnino teaming up again with the star of his movie "Queer" — Mr. Daniel Craig. But then Craig dropped out of the project, and suddenly, it was "The Penguin" star Colin Farrell tipped to play the titular Nazi-fighting hero (h/t The Hollywood Reporter).
But, if you've followed the DCU news, you'll know that's no longer the case. Production stalled in April 2025, and a few months later, in July 2025, Gunn said the movie was still moving forward, but no longer had Guadagnino at the helm (per TheWrap). There have been no production updates since.
Untitled 'Justice League' movie (TBA)
We're using "Untitled 'Justice League' movie" as a placeholder here. There's been no project by that name officially announced.
However, in their February 2025 press conference, James Gunn and Peter Safran did reveal that the current six-year plan they have will include an "'Avengers: Endgame'-style culmination" (h/t The Hollywood Reporter). So stay tuned for more on what that project will ultimately be.
Upcoming DC Universe TV show release dates
'Lanterns' (Aug 2026)
Release date: Aug. 16, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max
"Lanterns" stars Aaron Pierre as new Green Lantern recruit John Stewart. He's working alongside Green Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) to solve a dark, mysterious murder in Nebraska.
Alongside our two Lanterns, Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner will also appear in the series as a third Lantern. The show also stars Kelly Macdonald as Kerry, a local sheriff, Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, a modern cowboy who has some darkness beneath the surface and Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, a cunning woman sure to play a major role in the events to come. But the big name to watch out for is Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro. Sinestro is a major Green Lantern bad guy. He's a former member of the Green Lantern Corps and Hal's former mentor, but he no longer fights with Green Lantern's light.
'Waller' (TBA)
Release date: TBA on HBO Max
"Waller" was initially announced as a "Peacemaker" spin-off reprising Viola Davis as the titular A.R.G.U.S. chief Amanda Waller. However, things have stalled on the project. “We’ve taken a couple of cracks at it but still haven’t been able [to] land,” Peter Safran said at DC Studios' February 2025 press conference. “'Waller' has been a bumpy road.”
Gunn has repeatedly reiterated that the "Waller" show is still in development throughout 2025. Most recently, he said as much while speaking to People at the "Peacemaker" season 2 premiere. "We're workin on it, so we'll see what happens", Gunn said. "Some things have moved faster than others. Waller's not been the fastest. But I can't wait to see Viola put on their Waller pants again."
'Paradise Lost' (TBA)
Release date: TBA on HBO Max
When Gunn and Safran first announced the "Gods and Monsters DC Slate in 2023, "Paradise Lost" was described as a ""Game of Thrones"-style drama" set on Themyscira, the birthplace of Wonder Woman, and was set prior to the events of the "Wonder Woman" movies.
Gunn and Safran confirmed in late February that "Paradise Lost" is still in development (h/t Variety), and in July, he told Entertainment Weekly that the show was "moving along" and that he "love[s] that project a lot"... while conceding that progress is "slow-moving."
'Booster Gold' (TBA)
Release date: TBA on HBO Max
This DC Universe series seemed to be stuck in development hell for some time, but it looks like things are finally turning a corner for "Booster Gold." After previously struggling to find a showrunner for the series, we learned in July 2025 (via Deadline), "Our Flag Means Death" creator David Jenkins was attached to write the pilot and (if the show receives a series order), it's understood that the plan is for Jenkins to stay as a showrunner.
'Creature Commandos' season 2 (TBA)
Release date: TBA on HBO Max
"Creature Commandos" was renewed for a second season in December 2024, with EVP of HBO & Max Comedy Programming Amy Gravitt saying at the time: "We couldn't be more delighted to continue their stories with James, Dean Lorey, Peter Safran and our fantastic partners at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation."
The second season does not have a release date yet, though writer Dean Lorey told The Direct that the second season's been put on "a fast track" back in February 2025, so there's a chance we'll be seeing the series sooner than you might expect. Especially now that "Alien Earth" star Sydney Chandler is set to join the cast as Nosferata, pictured below, a centuries-old vampire (The InSneider via X [Twitter]).
Untitled 'Blue Beetle' series (TBA)
Release date: TBA on HBO Max
While the "Blue Beetle" movie is being left in the old DC Universe, an animated series is due to pick up where the 2023 movie left off (h/t Variety). The show is being led by executive producers Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who directed and wrote the original film, respectively. Safran said he expects them to present the project for a possible greenlight “pretty soon.”
Currently, Miguel Puga is attached to direct the series, with Cristian Martinez attached as writer. "Blue Beetle" DCEU star Xolo Maridueña is currently on the call sheet to reprise the titular role, and he told The Direct that the show would premiere in 2026. That sentiment seems to have been echoed by Belissa Escobedo, who played Milagro Reyes, the younger sister of Jaime Reyes (Blue Beetle). "Oh, absolutely," she told CBR when asked about a "Blue Beetle" show coming soon. "That’s totally in the works and in talks. So hopefully that’s happening soon. I’m gonna see Xolo [Maridueña] soon. We’re going to do a Comic-Con together."
'Mister Miracle' (TBA)
'Mister Miracle' (in production)
Release date: TBA
"Mister Miracle" will be the second adult animated series to emerge from Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios, following the success of "Creature Commandos" season one. The series was announced back in June 2025 and will be based on the acclaimed, Eisner Award-winning 12-issue comic book series from Tom King and Mitch Gerads. Tom King is at the helm as producer and showrunner. In November 2025, King confirmed to the Comic Speek Podcast that he had nearly finished writing all the episodes.
The synopsis teases the show as "a harrowing, hilarious, heart wrenching journey across the pitfalls of the ordinary and extraordinary as the son of God raised by the devil tries to save his family, his world, and maybe even himself."
Potential 'Superman' TV spinoffs (TBA)
In July, the Wall Street Journal reported James Gunn was interested in developing TV show spinoffs from his "Superman" movie.
The director was reportedly considering TV spinoffs based on Gathegi's Mister Terrific and Clark Kent's best friend, Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo). That's basically all we have heard on this front, though.
DC Elseworlds movies and TV shows
'The Batman: Part II' (Oct 2027)
#SnowTires 🦇 pic.twitter.com/XR0K1xUGqxMay 7, 2026
Release date: Oct. 1, 2027
The wait for "The Batman" sequel continues, but the wheels are at least in motion. On the red carpet at the "Superman" world premiere, James Gunn confirmed he'd read Matt Reeves' long-awaited script, and simply said, "it's great" (via Deadline). August brought us more news: Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed in a letter to shareholders that "The Batman Part II" would finally begin filming in spring 2026 (h/t Variety), for an October 2027 release. That filming has since been pushed to June, and will see Andy Serkis returning as Bruce's butler, Alfred (h/t Deadline).
The sequel does not plan to include Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, according to a rumor credited to Jeff Sneider. But the movie won't lack for star power. According to Deadline, Sebastian Stan is joining DC to play Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face. Scarlett Johansson will be joining her MCU comrade as his wife, and "Game of Thrones" star Charles Dance has been tipped by Deadline to play Charles Dent, Harvey's father.
As for what will happen in the movie? All we seem to know (for now) is that it will take place in winter. In May 2026, Reeves posted on X (Twitter) a shot of snow tires on the Batmobile.
'Constantine' sequel (TBA)
Release date: TBA
A sequel to the Keanu Reeves-led "Constantine" movie was announced in development back in 2022 (h/t Deadline), with Reeves set to reprise the title role and Francis Lawrence returning to direct. However, it seems like production isn't going swimmingly. In May 2025, actor Peter Stormare (due to reprise the role of Lucifer he played back in 2005) told The Direct there's been "a lot of back and forth, because... I think Keanu is not so happy with the scripts."
Per Stormare's comments, Reeves isn't interested in making this an action-heavy movie; "Keanu, he wants to do a sequel that is very close to the first one", he added. The most recent update on the project came from James Gunn in October 2025. “I’ve discussed it on and off. I’ve discussed it with Keanu,” Gunn told the BobaTalks podcast. “But I have not read any script yet.”
'Dynamic Duo' (June 2028)
Release date: June 30, 2028
'Dynamic Duo' is a Warner Bros Pictures Animation that will sit outside the DC Universe. It's tentatively about the early days of a pair of Robins, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. Don't expect a rated-R movie, though. DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran told Variety that this movie is "a kind of perfect on-ramp for family audiences into the world of Gotham."
The movie was originally set to be written by Matthew Aldrich and directed by Arthur Mintz, but The Wrap has since reported that Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber are now rewriting the script. A report from Biz New Orleans says the movie is currently slated for June 30, 2028. It'll be produced by Swaybox Studio, which uses a technology known as “Motion on Motion (aka Momo)” animation. This animation style is a cross between CGI animation, practical elements of stop-motion, and live-action real-time performance.
'My Adventures with Green Lantern' (TBA)
Release date: TBA on HBO Max
One of three Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios co-productions, "My Adventures with Green Lantern" is aimed at a younger audience. The show follows high schooler Jessica Cruz, whose life is changed forever when a Green Lantern ring falls from the sky and chooses her, just before the remnants of an ancient space war arrive on Earth (h/t Variety).
Showrunner and executive producer Jake Wyatt has confirmed on X that "My Adventures with Green Lantern" exists in the same universe as the DC series "My Adventures with Superman." That makes it DC Elseworlds, not part of the DCU.
'DC Super Powers' (TBA)
Release date: TBA
Another animated show aimed at younger audiences, "DC Super Powers" is set at the Alliance School for Heroes. The main cast will feature super-students Lightning, Flash, Plastic Man, Aquagirl, Green Lantern and Terra learning to harness their abilities under the tutelage of Principal Martian Manhunter (h/t Variety).
'Starfire' (TBA)
Release date: TBA
Separate from a potential "Teen Titans" show, "Starfire" will be an origin story show about the titular alien superhero. But it won't be set on Earth. Instead, Starfire will leave her home planet of Tamaran and explore the cosmos, joining up with “space biker Crush, plant-loving Fern, and the magical Princess Amethyst of Gemworld” to journey the galaxy in search of adventure (h/t Variety).
Rumored projects
'The Authority'
Gunn initially described “The Authority" as a "different kind of superhero story" when speaking with Collider back in 2023. "They're basically good intentions, but they think that the world is completely broken," he told the outlet. "And the only way to fix it is to take things into their own hands, whether that means killing people, destroying heads of state, changing governments, you know, whatever they want to do to make the world better, and we'll see how that journey goes for them.”
Unfortunately, not everything on the initial DC Universe slate has met with good fortune. On April 28, 2026, Gunn took to Threads to reveal that the movie's development was officially on ice. “The script wasn’t quite there but more importantly it didn’t work in terms of the larger DCU both in terms of the story and practical concerns." Gunn said on the social media platform. "Maybe some day. Not soon."
'The Penguin' season 2
Although "The Batman" spinoff was conceived as a limited series, you've no doubt seen stories about the possibility of "The Penguin" returning for a second season.
Fans are definitely keen (season 1, after all, was a killer, compelling crime drama), but no official renewal has ever happened.
Star Colin Farrell previously explained that he "loved" playing Oz and would be open to a return "if there's a great idea and the writing was really muscular and as strong or stronger on the page than it was the first season." Though he also told Total Film he "never want[ed] to put that fucking suit and that fucking head on again" by the end of the show, so that writing presumably has to be truly top-tier to tempt him back for another season.
Matt Reeves has also previously discussed following "The Penguin" by zooming in on other Gothamites. Speaking with Interview Magazine, he said he and HBO had "been talking about doing other shows" in Nov. 2024, adding: "Oz's story is Oz's story, and the idea is to do these other stories in the same way."
